I wanted to take a moment to pay homage to Portlanders who, instead of being cowed by a dictator, embraced their first amendment right to peaceful assembly and continued protesting, but in costume, to prove the lie to their city being “war ravaged.” I cannot think of a better response. I love their creativity and stance for their, and our, rights.

During the rapid and accelerated unraveling of our democracy, it is doubly important to read these "boring" stories of the actual American heroes who really did make our country great before the racists and the oligarchs and their cheering sycophants truly understood the ease and effectiveness of demonizing our greatest and most authentic public servants. This won't be one of the first books banned, but it will eventually be added to the list.

National Constitution Center just released their interactive Declaration of Independence, to match their interactive US Constitution. So many people are claiming these documents, but few people take the time to read and understand them. These free educational resources are brilliant, and, if you ever find yourself in Philadelphia, be sure to visit the museum. It is a truly inspiring space. https://constitutioncenter.org/declaration

Short book about some of the inner workings of the American government. TIL that the dept of commerce does not actually have anything to do with business. 😆

‘‘Tis the season of freshly sharpened pencils, lunchboxes, and back to school routines. My little one is starting JK this year (I‘m definitely 😢) and this got me thinking of teacher romances (where one or both MCs are teachers). Not Teacher/Student which is a whole trope in itself. Here is the link to vote: https://forms.gle/512c5FRpoGckjcLi7

Read & listened to this simultaneously because I knew it was gonna take some effort. (Doing the same thing with the Anti-federalists too 😅.)

In America, there has always been this push & pull about what the Founders intended. Now, I can‘t say this book makes it obvious, partly because I believe Hamilton was insincere, but I feel most people can walk away from this wondering why in the hell the Supreme Court has such a problem understanding.

TheBookHippie The Supreme Court is corrupt 😵‍💫 2mo
BC_Dittemore @TheBookHippie very much so. Which is a shame to say because we might possibly have some of the Court‘s best justices ever in Sotomayor, Kagan, & KBJ. 2mo

I do not care that when I phone a Government Service Canada and they tell me the same sob story as 6 months ago, and it's still hasn't been resolved. What in the world are workers doing. Why do I need to call you 30 times to see if it's been done? I'm at the point where I just don't care. @Dabbe

AmyG So much incompetence- everywhere. 3mo

repost for @RamsFan1963:

We have a very eclectic selection for June's #ClassicLSFBC. I think any of them would make for a enjoyable read or reread. As usual, the book with the most votes will be for June, and the next closest will be the choice for July. I'll announce the winners on Monday. #ClassicLSFBC
