The End We Start From | Megan Hunter

Floods are threatening London, forcing a young mother and her baby to make their way in this new dystopian world.

Sparsely told with beautiful prose. It is a short read that feels somewhat detached but I couldn‘t put it down until I finished.

Thanks @AThousandLives87 💕 this was part of the fantastic #dystopianblues package you sent me!

readordierachel Loved this one 💙 5y

This book was amazing. Very character driven- a dystopian story that gives background info. I devoured it in two days. Thanks to @Gissy for sending this in my very first Litsy swap #dystopianblues. This will be a book a recommend often!

It‘s here, it‘s here! My husband and I couldn‘t figure out what I had ordered to have so many packages and it turns out they were filled with JOY! And for tryin again after such trouble! (CC @Mommamanzi ) #dystopianblues

Only 6 weeks later 😱 round two of attempting your #dystopianblues package is on its way to you @inwhichHeikereadsharder ! I'm sorry it took so long but hopefully nothing will get stolen this time. Very happy I was able to get a refund from the post office! I shipped it straight from Amazon so hopefully that helps. It might send it in 2 shipments (no idea why 🙄) so be on the lookout for 2 boxes. There are 5 items total.

#bookmail

Mommamanzi I‘m so glad you got a refund, but how heartbreaking someone would steal!!! I hope it gets there quick and safe! 6y
Gissy Yeah!! 👏👏👏👏 6y

I'm currently reading this book and planning to finish it today but the reason to post a comment is that I'm using and ate some of the wonderful gifts received in different swaps. The beautiful "magic brew" mug by @Captivatedbybooks during #CupidGoesPostal hosted by @MrBook @BookBabe and @Avanders The chocolate (I ate it?first time I tasted it) came from @Chrissyreadit during #DystopianBlues hosted by @Mommamanzi So happy with these treasures?

Chrissyreadit That mug is gorgeous! 6y
Gissy Yes! I was so happy when I saw it! @Chrissyreadit The chocolate was delicious. First time I tasted that flavor! 6y

@LapReader !!! I don‘t have any other way to get in contact with you but if you could email at mgiroir@mail.usf.edu that would be great! Your #dystopianblues package is trying to get to you but FedEx has been having trouble getting it to you!!Thank you 😊

LapReader Oh that‘s what that note is about. I live in an apartment building with no concierge but lots of security so there is nowhere to deposit parcels. I work long hours so am never home when they drop by. I will call them to see what we can arrange. Thanks. Can‘t wait to open it. 6y

JenlovesJT47 I'm sad that the holds line is so long at the library, I'm still waiting to get it. 😭Hope you enjoyed it! I'll definitely read it whenever I eventually do get it. 6y
sammisho @JenlovesJT47 I don't think you are alone in that 6y
CunningFox Same here. @JenlovesJT47 I'm definitely going to read it once it's available! 6y

jpmcwisemorgan @JenlovesJT47 @CunningFox The Kindle ebook is still $1.99 if you really want to read it and are ok with ebooks. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan I haven‘t finished yet!!! Oops. 6y
JenlovesJT47 @jpmcwisemorgan just got it, thank you! 🤗💚 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JenlovesJT47 @CunningFox @jpmcwisemorgan So I‘m not the only one who‘s lagging behind. Good to know I‘m not the only one who will be finishing up in March. But yes, I saw that sale price too and was bummed I didn‘t wait to buy it at that price! 6y
CareBear I LOVED it! It started a little slow for me but definitely picked up! I saw the movie and it felt very much like that...but I loved the movie, so that wasn‘t a problem! I haven‘t read the comics but I thought Bardugo did a great job with the girl power theme. 6y
Laughterhp I haven‘t finished yet! I‘m only at chapter 7! I‘m liking what I‘ve read so far though! 6y
LoverofLit I really loved it. I thought it was sweet, strong in the girl relationships department, had a good moral message, and ended well. I thought there were some great quotes too! I'll put the only thing I didn't like in a separate "spoiler" comment so I don't ruin anything for anyone! 6y
LoverofLit I was NOT a fan of the romantic thread between Wonder Woman and the villain brother, though maybe as she IS a teenage girl who's never had experience with males before I'm giving her too much credit. I just don't think she would have allowed herself to be so clouded by that pompous ass when she knew how noble and important her mission was. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @JenlovesJT47 Yay! @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I have the hard copy from @sammisho because of the #dystopianblues swap but I bought the ebook too so I can go back and forth. Ebooks are just easier on the bus. 6y
sammisho I really loved this book! I am a life long fan of WW, so not sure I could have disliked it! I loved the importance of girl friendships. I do think the first half was slow, but it really picked up the second half. 6y
sammisho @LoverofLit I think it was really realistic that her judgment was clouded by him. And it wasn't just because he was a hot guy. Diana trusted him because she trusted everyone. That was part of her nature. She was baffled by Alia being dishonest too, with the phone, ect... She thought Jason was on their side, I think her attraction to him was aecomdary 6y
LoverofLit @sammisho Valid point! I forgot how baffled she was by dishonesty. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @jpmcwisemorgan I agree, the Library list was long, so I bought the hardcover at BAM when they had their 20% off sale. So I got a deal, but still paid way more than $1.99. And I‘m the same, ebooks I read everywhere, my hardcover‘s only get a few chapters read at night before bed... I just can‘t lug them around everywhere anymore. 6y
Daisey I really enjoyed the book, and although the first part was slower, I thought it was important to clearly develop the world of the story. I also agree with the comments @sammisho made about Diana's confusion with deceit in humans. 6y
coffeewithbooks I really like the book but couldn‘t stand the ending . My favorite character turn out to be a bad guy 😞 6y
sammisho @prettybooknerd I was really surprised by that! And it just came out of nowhere! 6y
sammisho @Daisey We did need that world building, and now that we have it I would love a sequel, maybe feature some more Amazons. 6y
coffeewithbooks @sammisho yes I was so mad . I yell omg and my husband was like what wrong lol 6y
melrailey I loved it. I enjoyed getting to see a younger Diana face a “test” and really none of the Amazons know about it. I liked the romance part ok because it was Diana learning to deal with outside people and guys and it kinda helped her learn that not all people can be trusted. I would love a sequel! 6y
sammisho @melrailey I didn't feel like the romance part was a main focus, which was refreshing. It was used more as a way to show how Diana was so naive and inexperienced in the World of Man, despite all her power. 6y
melrailey I agree @sammisho I just love Diana though. Probably my favorite DC character. 6y
sammisho @melrailey I just love Diana too!!! So badass! 6y
QuoteQueen @prettybooknerd I felt betrayed with that reveal. I felt just as every book character did and did NOT at all see that coming! I felt a little dirty liking him. But felt how Diana handled him was AMAZING! I may have chuckled a bit. 6y
QuoteQueen For me the best parts were the gods/goddesses come to life - that they were real and not merely myth - and Diana meeting the modern world. All the confusion and both accidental and intentional wit on her part was amazing. There were also some amazing quotes (which I posted) in the book which is always a plus in my book (haha). 6y
sammisho @QuoteQueen @prettybooknerd I think I felt the worst for Alia. Even when someone you love ends up being a dirtbag, you still love them 6y
sammisho @QuoteQueen It was a little DC comics meets Rick Riordan. I liked it! 6y
QuoteQueen @sammisho yes! I felt so bad for her. But was relieved a little at the glimpse of her ending. Though I do hope there is a second book with everyone in it! The characters and dialogue/interaction of all of them was great! 6y
sammisho It was also so nice to see Leigh Burdago write something different. I don't know if anyone has read her stuff before, but it usually has a darker feel than this. @QuoteQueen @Daisey @melrailey @prettybooknerd @loveroflit 6y
sammisho @CareBear Have you read this author before? 6y
QuoteQueen @sammisho I've not read anything by her before. But I'm willing to bet it is excellent even if it's darker. The parts with some of those gods got creepy so I'm sure she's great at dark too. 6y
sammisho I definitely would recommend 6y
CareBear I read . I did not love it as much as everyone else seemed to, nor did I like it as much as this one. I may try her again though. 6y
sammisho @carebear features a bad ass female heroine, might enjoy it more since you like Warbringer so much? I liked it more than Six of Crows 6y
CareBear Stacked @sammisho I will definitely try this! 6y
CareBear I thought the fight scenes in this one were awesome. 6y
Daisey @sammisho @QuoteQueen I got just a bit of a Riordan vibe too. The mix of DC and mythology was part of what I really enjoyed. I haven‘t read any other books by Bardugo, but something by her has been on my someday TBR for a while. Thanks for finally getting me to read one! 6y
sammisho @CareBear Yes the fight scenes were great! I love a good fight scene! 6y
sammisho @Daisey I think I now associate anything having to do with Greek mythology to Riordan ! 6y
melrailey You know I even thought about Riordan when I was reading it. I think it was the Greek touches that did it. Bardugo is on my auto buy list. I love her. 6y
sammisho @melrailey She is one of my autobuys too, and Maas, so I am super excited for Cat Woman too!! 6y
melrailey Yes! I can‘t wait for Catwoman! 6y
Marmie7 This is my first read by Bardugo and I really enjoyed it! I love reading mythology and WW is my fav superhero☝️This was well written and after the first few chapters, hard to put down. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thanks for hosting this @sammisho 👏 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I week late, but I finished it and enjoyed it, and agree with everyone above. I didn‘t see the twist coming, but I also didn‘t trust him from the beginning, so it wasn‘t as shocking for me. My favorite parts were all the Girl Power conversations, Diana‘s comments to the assumptions of men on the subway, the men at the gala, to the villain. And the great girl friendships that definitely passed the Bechdel test, so A++ there for young readers. 6y

Definitely creepy to think about, this little book packs a big punch. The ending left me unsettled and I'm glad I didn't read this at night because I definitely wouldn't have been able to sleep.
@MaleficentBookDragon thanks for sending this one in my #dystopianblues package! Now I have to go find the movie to watch again as it's been years since I've seen it.

Avanders I had to buy this one too, after reading @MaleficentBookDragon 's comments on it... 😁 can't wait to read it! I'm not sure if I have ever actually seen the movie... 6y
MaleficentBookDragon It hit me hard this reread. Watch the original movie first. The Nicole Kidman version was kind of a farce. I actually enjoyed it because of Beth Midler, but it is not a good adaptation. @Avanders 6y
Eggs I've seen a 1960s version and one in the 1990s as well. The first one was creepier 6y
Avanders @MaleficentBookDragon ooh good to know!! 6y
