Murder With Peacocks | Donna Andrews

Pickpick

It‘s been years since I read the early books in the series, so I thought I would mix in a few with the newer ones I‘m still getting caught up on. I just love Meg, Michael and Meg‘s whole goofy family! Things start off pretty differently from what they become in later books, but the wackiness is there! It was also written 25 years ago, so it reads a little differently too. This one was quite a story with A LOT going on!

mabell Example - Meg is Maid of Honor for 3 weddings in 2-3 weeks 😆

Tamra Such cute cover! 1mo
Librarybelle Yay!! 1mo
mabell @Tamra They all (except the original version of these two) have the bright covers of cozies, but they are all fun interpretations of the plot! Complete with titular bird 😄 1mo

This is a complex and gripping mystery/thriller spanning two timelines that eventually merge. Some parts are quite disturbing and graphic, but I enjoyed learning more about Portugal's history in the second half of the 20th century.

I chose this book for the “wartime mystery“ prompt of #CloakAndDaggerChristmas. @Ruthiella

This series, at least for me, just seems to keep getting better and better. What starts as one potential crime leads to a murder that Brunetti has to solve. As with the others in the series, darker subject matters and IRL issues are presented. Leon‘s turns of phrases are at times poetic and descriptive and at other times biting and sarcastic. On to the next!

Bluebird I‘ve had this series in my queue for a few years. It sounds great! I hope to start it soon—i‘m just trying to read deeper into my ongoing series before starting new ones. 🥺 1y
Librarybelle @Bluebird Totally understand that! I have so many series going, it‘s ridiculous! 1y
Cinfhen Great review!! Do you think my 80 year old dad would like this series?? He‘s become a real reader in the past few years and he‘s constantly asking me for suggestions…Unfortunately he likes James Patterson, Brad Meltzer, Lee Child and David Baldacci so I‘m out of my reading comfort zone 😜 1y

Librarybelle @Cinfhen He might! I think Donna Leon is a deeper writer than Patterson, if that makes sense…there‘s more layers to the writing than the quick reads from the authors he likes. That being said, it took me several books into the series for everything to click for me - I really appreciate her approach right now. And, it‘s in Venice, so very European. 1y
Librarybelle @Cinfhen Has he tried Stuart Woods? I‘m not a fan, but he‘s an author similar to Patterson and Baldacci…short chapters, cliffhangers at the end of each chapter, fast reads. 1y
Cinfhen Ha! I think you nailed the type of reader my dad is….I‘ll suggest Stuart Woods! Thanks so much, Jess xxx 1y

I loved this movie (and the soundtrack is really great too!), so I decided to read the book. I really enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to reading the second book in the series. #ReadingThroughTheYears192021 #1999

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was published in 1999. It seemed fitting that I should be listening to my Prince records right now! 🎶
