Fatal Remedies
Fatal Remedies: A Commissario Guido Brunetti Mystery | Donna Leon
11 posts | 14 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
For Commissario Brunetti, it began with an early morning phone call. In the chill of the Venetian dawn, a sudden act of vandalism shatters the quiet of the deserted city. But soon Brunetti is shocked to find that the culprit waiting to be apprehended at the scene is someone from his own family. Meanwhile, Brunetti is under pressure from his superiors to solve a daring robbery with a link to a suspicious accidental death. Does it all lead back to the Mafia? And how are his familys actions connected to these crimes?

Brunetti gets an early morning phone call that his wife, Paola has committed an act of vandalism & is at the police station. Her thinking: a travel agency sells tours to Thailand that include”girls” for hire at local hotels. Enraged, she smashes this agency‘s window in protest. As a result Brunelli‘s job comes under threat. What follows is a twisty turn of events involving murder, betrayal, & the Mafia.Another gem in this series.#serieslove2023

This series, at least for me, just seems to keep getting better and better. What starts as one potential crime leads to a murder that Brunetti has to solve. As with the others in the series, darker subject matters and IRL issues are presented. Leon‘s turns of phrases are at times poetic and descriptive and at other times biting and sarcastic. On to the next!

Bluebird I‘ve had this series in my queue for a few years. It sounds great! I hope to start it soon—i‘m just trying to read deeper into my ongoing series before starting new ones. 🥺 13mo
Librarybelle @Bluebird Totally understand that! I have so many series going, it‘s ridiculous! 13mo
Cinfhen Great review!! Do you think my 80 year old dad would like this series?? He‘s become a real reader in the past few years and he‘s constantly asking me for suggestions…Unfortunately he likes James Patterson, Brad Meltzer, Lee Child and David Baldacci so I‘m out of my reading comfort zone 😜 13mo

Librarybelle @Cinfhen He might! I think Donna Leon is a deeper writer than Patterson, if that makes sense…there‘s more layers to the writing than the quick reads from the authors he likes. That being said, it took me several books into the series for everything to click for me - I really appreciate her approach right now. And, it‘s in Venice, so very European. 13mo
Librarybelle @Cinfhen Has he tried Stuart Woods? I‘m not a fan, but he‘s an author similar to Patterson and Baldacci…short chapters, cliffhangers at the end of each chapter, fast reads. 13mo
Cinfhen Ha! I think you nailed the type of reader my dad is….I‘ll suggest Stuart Woods! Thanks so much, Jess xxx 13mo

#Top20series #20Series20days day 3 The 1st one in this series is Death at La Fenice.Tagged book is 8 , the one I need to start. The Commissario Brunetti series is a classic style police procedural , the charm is Guido & his family, food , & life in Venice.I keep a list in my bag , try to pick them up at library sales , thrift stores, & such .Covid times has put a wrench in that. There are 29 books so far so a long way to go.I have enjoyed them all.

Ruthiella I love the fact that you let them come to you! I hope soon we will all be back out there browsing the stacks! 4y

I‘m not sure whether to blame Bookbub or @Crazeedi for today‘s purchase. @Crazeedi turned me on to this series, and they keep showing up as ebook deals. I‘ve bought several in the last couple of months, but I want to read the series in order. Do you think the publisher could put them on sale in order? Of course not! Oh, well, when I get to #8, this will be waiting in for me on my Kindle. In the meantime, back to #2.

Crazeedi This is very cool that you're getting them for a great price! I hope you are enjoying! There are like 23 or more , so you will have fun 5y

For the Lackberg-Leon LT Group Read. I‘m enjoying this mystery series. This one focuses on Guido and Paola‘s relationship and basic philosophical differences about justice. Paola deliberately gets arrested for what she feels is a good cause and Commissario Guido must deal with the consequences to his career. Easy, quick and enjoyable read. 4.0/5.0⭐️ #2019
