A family reunion for the ages when two clans convene for the summer at their beloved getaway in the Catskillsperfect for fans of Dirty Dancing and The Marvelous Mrs. Maiselfrom the acclaimed author of The Floating Feldmans. In its heyday, The Golden Hotel was the crown jewel of the hotter-than-hot Catskills vacation scene. For more than sixty years, the Goldman and Weingold families best friends and business partners have presided over this glamorous resort which served as a second home for well-heeled guests and celebrities. But the Catskills are not what they used to be and neither is the relationship between the Goldmans and the Weingolds. As the facilities and management begin to fall apart, a tempting offer to sell forces the two families together again to make a heart-wrenching decision. Can they save their beloved Golden or is it too late? Long-buried secrets emerge, new dramas and financial scandal erupt, and everyone from the traditional grandparents to the millennial grandchildren wants a say in the hotels future. Business and pleasure clash in this fast-paced, hilarious, nostalgia-filled story, where the hotel owners rediscover the magic of a bygone era of nonstop fun even as they grapple with what may be their last resort.

Still catching up on reviews from last month. This one was a delight to read with the #sundaybuddyread crew. Tons of family dynamics and Catskills nostalgia. I fell in love with all the characters despite their many flaws and was rooting for them to figure out their best futures and the fate of their beloved hotel.

kspenmoll Nice review! Such a perfect summer book! 12h

4.5/5 ⭐️ Summer in the Catskills! I enjoyed the different generations coming together over their family hotel. #sundaybuddyread

A fun summer read! The story of an iconic hotel in the Catskills and the drama between the two families that own and run it including whether or not to sell. Some style choices I didn‘t love, but didn‘t take away from the overall story or enjoyment. Read for #sundaybuddyread

Read for the July #SundayBuddyRead this is the perfect book for any summer reading list. The author brings the Golden Hotel & summers in the “Borscht Belt” resorts of the Catskills to life. Lots of nostalgia, family dynamics & secrets & a mostly likable cast of characters as three generations the Goldman & Weinberg families try to decide whether to keep their fading hotel or sell it to a developer. A charming & engaging story that made me smile.💚

DebinHawaii Thank you to @TheBookHippie for picking it & for leading the always fun & interesting #SundayBuddyRead discussions! 🤗📚 1w
TheBookHippie 💚💚💚 It was really lovely! I rewatched all of Mrs. Maisel as well! 1w

Epilogue 2031
Wow ♥️♥️♥️

The painting and the sign AWE…all the feels ♥️

I loved this ad a summer read. Did you?

What did I miss ? Anything hit you in this last section?

Librarybelle This was the perfect summer read! All the feels for the epilogue! 2w
AmyG This brought back so many memories for me. And for that reason alone, I loved it. 2w
CoffeeNBooks This was a wonderful summer read- I really enjoyed it! Great pick! 2w

Prairiegirl_reading Great summer read! Not total fluff but a quick fun read. Unexpected twists, characters to hat and to root for, and a happy ending. Obviously history to google too, which I always appreciate. Perfect for summer! 2w
DanaManiac This was a great summer read!! 2w
Kdgordon88 This was a great summer read! 2w
Karisa I agree with all above! Fun, quirky characters with a little substance to keep us thinking. Perfect summer read as @Librarybelle said! I liked that @AmyG had actually spent vacations there too makes the book all the better! (edited) 1w
kspenmoll Loved the epilogue! This was a fantastic summer read! 1w
mcctrish I LOVED it!!! 1w
DebinHawaii The perfect summer read! I really enjoyed the humor & nostalgia. Has anyone read the author‘s 1w
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I was wondering that as well… 1w
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I did put her next book on our schedule next year 🙃 1w
DebinHawaii @TheBookHippie Yay! 🎉📚🎉 1w
peanutnine Loved this one! And the epilogue was perfect! 1w
TheBookHippie @peanutnine I‘m so happy the epilogue was there! 1w
vlwelser Loved it. Perfect palette cleanse after that Emily Henry nonsense. 1w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I am still salty about that unfortunate read ! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 1w
Sargar114 This was such a fun summer read. The time lapses at the end were a bit discombobulating with the exception of the epilogue because that one was dated. 1w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I agree, it took me a minute to orientate! 1w
Sargar114 Oh I just remembered: Benny borrowing the money from Amos ❤️❤️❤️ 1w
Sparklemn @TheBookHippie @sargar114 I was a little confused, too. 😀 1w
Sparklemn I was sad that Amos never got to see the motel. 😥 1w
mollyrotondo @Sargar114 yes! It turned out Amos was helping Benny so Benny is in the clear 😅 1w
mollyrotondo Really enjoyed this one! It was a great summer feel read but with fleshed out characters and great twists and reveals. So much fun! 1w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo SERIOUSLY PHEWWWWW 🤦🏻‍♀️😆 last month was a hot mess… 1w
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie June was a real stinker lol July was perfect. And can‘t go wrong with Simone this month! I‘ve read September‘s book before and really liked it so definitely on a better track now lol 1w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo Thank goodness… I seriously and am still 🤯😩😵‍💫😱about June. People love her books. Just NO. HOWEVER, I‘d still rather go in blind, we have such fun. 1w
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie oh for sure. It‘s not your fault. It sounded like it had potential. I didn‘t even realize it was the same author when I saw it on the schedule so I clearly wasn‘t paying attention lol but it‘s so much fun either way. 1w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo that‘s what I get for seeing R & J and swooning ohhh Shakespeare 🤣🤣🤣. 1w
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie I do the same thing when I see Shakespeare inspiration 😂 1w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This was great for summer! Funny & heartwarming with a little bit of drama. It didn't take too much brainpower. It was sweet that we found out about the money situation between Amos & Benny. Sad that Amos never got to see The Golden 2.0. The glimpse in to the not too distant future was a nice touch. Good book all around. 5d

Librarybelle Definitely! I think the author really made the property stand out. 2w
Prairiegirl_reading I like books with a strong sense of place and this was one for sure! I would go to the Catskills if I had the chance! 2w
AmyG The Catskills were a whole vibe. Definitely a character. I‘ve been to Grossingers! 2w
See All 11 Comments
CoffeeNBooks Yes, I definitely think so! I felt like I was attached to the hotel and could really visualize the setting. 2w
DanaManiac Yes! I felt like I could see and feel the past events in the Golden while we were in the present with the characters. It had such a presence! 2w
kspenmoll Yes, It was! It had its own character, presence, & really drive the story. 1w
mcctrish It for sure was and why it stunned me that they voted no 1w
DebinHawaii Yes, it was definitely a character & described so well by the author! 1w
vlwelser Maybe? It certainly took up a lot of space in the book. 1w
mollyrotondo It definitely was a character. It had its own history and story to tell. Loved spending time with it. 1w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'm going with no. I don't think the facility itself lent to the action of the book, (trapping people in a room, crumbling facades, etc) but it was one hell of a setting. 5d

Brain decides to raise the baby as friends

Aimee & Brain are together!

Aimee moves out! Hallelujah 💯
And she‘s going to be a grandma !

How did you like this ending? Would it have been better if they were allowed or searched their feelings as teens ?

Librarybelle Aimee and Brian seem to be a good couple. It‘s a shame they couldn‘t connect as teens, but maybe they needed the time to grow and to understand their attraction towards each other. 2w
Prairiegirl_reading I like that they got together in the end. Who knows what kind of drama would have come from them together in their younger years. Sometimes it‘s the wrong time with the right person. 2w
AmyG Sometimes I just love a happy ending. (That‘s what she said) (edited) 2w
See All 13 Comments
CoffeeNBooks I think that for whatever reasons, it might not have worked out when they were younger, but now it will. 2w
DanaManiac I love this part too! I agree that it might not have worked out if they got together when they were younger. I‘m so glad she is free of Roger and has so much to look forward to! 2w
kspenmoll I liked the ending- this tale deserved a happy one! 1w
DebinHawaii I think things happened for the right reasons—like her 3 great children. It made my heart happy that they got together now. 1w
peanutnine Timing is a big factor for a relationship and I think they had to live their own lives before they found each other again. 1w
vlwelser I thought it was fun. Though trying to figure out how those boys are related made my head explode. 1w
Sargar114 It seems like with Brian, he would have stayed with Angela forever regardless so it was good she broke it off 1w
Sparklemn @AmyG 😂 (edited) 1w
mollyrotondo Definitely think they needed to grow as people before reconnecting. Timing is weird but I think later in life has worked out better for them. 1w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I appreciate that Angela wasn't going to stay with Brian just because they made a bay together and that he's man enough to take his part of parental duties. I am a firm believer of timing and I don't think Aimee and Brian would've worked long term if they hooked up as teens. 5d

The vote
Last summer at the hotel 😭

A motel?!
Phoebe and Zach just friends for business sake…

How did you like this spin?

Fun article https://nymag.com/strategist/article/best-new-boutique-hotels-catskills-nyc.html

Librarybelle I guess boutique motels are now the rage, so at least the Golden legacy was kept alive. I was sad that they did vote to sell…my sentimental side got so attached to the place! 2w
TheBookHippie @Librarybelle me too! I wanted it to be revamped and I guess it was in a way. 2w
Prairiegirl_reading I was watching Trixie Motel last weekend and then it turns out the kids open a motel! The whole idea is fun to me. I was surprised at Louise taking her two votes and voting to stay and to sell. I do understand that because one was vote was nostalgic and the other was for the kids. The hotel wasn‘t sustainable and it would have been handcuffing the younger generation to try to keep it open. 2w
See All 18 Comments
AmyG @Prairiegirl_reading Agree. It was time to move on. You have to know when to “fold ‘em”. I just think it was wonderful how the kids reinvented things…with the help of the older generations. 2w
Prairiegirl_reading @AmyG it‘s continuing the legacy, just a different way. 💙 2w
CoffeeNBooks I was sad when they voted to sell the hotel. The story is just so compelling that I felt attached to the place. But I like that Phoebe and Zach opened the motel, and I love that even though the new generation has their own ideas, they're willing to get advice from Brian as "the older generation." I think this will really bring the families back together. 2w
DanaManiac I‘m glad to see that they found a middle ground. I think it was time to sell but I also think that the legacy of the Golden was important to maintain. 2w
Kdgordon88 I think it was the right decision but my heart wanted it to continue. 2w
Karisa It was sad but also realistic. Best possible outcome probably. I like that they are continuing the legacy but making it their own. 1w
kspenmoll I really wanted them to hang on to the hotel but it would need so much $$& they did not have. I was sad but got why they decided to sell. Zac & Phoebe‘s motel Was reassuring that the legacy will continue 1w
mcctrish I legit said “what? What was the vote?” It was certainly more manageable, a year round gig and for sure would attract more people but still I was sad 1w
DebinHawaii Yes, a bit sad, but the best outcome for the families. It would have been too hard to rebuild & sustain the Golden. I love that they got Brian involved & that they got the sign & the picture of Benny & Amos. 💚 1w
peanutnine I agree with everyone's sentiments - it was bittersweet to sell the hotel but I was so glad they were able to carry on the legacy with the motel and gave the next generation a direction for their lives 1w
vlwelser This did not surprise me even a little. 1w
Sargar114 I agree with everyone. It was the right call; definitely bittersweet 1w
Sparklemn I love the Golden Motel. I was a little confused about where it was located. I'm assuming in NYC somewhere? 1w
mollyrotondo I liked this. The kids need something of their own to motivate them and to grow as people and this was the perfect thing for them. Modern but still can seek help and advice from family when they need support. It‘s the best thing for everyone‘s futures. 1w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Bittersweet, but given the size of the place and just how outdated it was, I am not surprised by the outcome. I like that the grandkids made a kitschy boutique motel to carry on the legacy - something a little more manageable. I do think the offer amount for the land was a low-ball offer. I wanted Brian to realize the worth and entertain other buyers. 5d

Museum with the Go Fund Me
I love it

Plus https://catskillresortmuseum.com/ fun google search results!

Librarybelle That is a fun idea, and awesome that there is one coming soon (hopefully) in real life! I‘d definitely go… 2w
AmyG I‘d go. The Catskills were a huge prt of my childhood. Fun fact: The Concord, trying to drum up business, used to have Jewish singles weekends. A friend dragged me along a few times and boy, did I meet some strange guys. 🤣 (edited) 2w
Kdgordon88 After watching the Mrs. Maisel‘s Catskills episodes I know I would have loved vacationing there as a kid. 2w
See All 15 Comments
Karisa @AmyG 🤣 1w
AmyG @Kdgordon88 It was like sleep away camp for adults and families. 1w
Karisa @Kdgordon88 I know right?! I love Mrs. Maisel. This book had me back to binge watching from the start again. The Catskills episodes were fantastic! 1w
kspenmoll That was so funny & current‘ 1w
mcctrish @Karisa we don‘t have Prime but ages ago I binged the entire first season of Mrs Maisel on an airplane. One of these days I hope to fly to Europe again and watch some more 🤣🤣 1w
DebinHawaii I rewatched the Mrs. Maisel Catskills episodes too & I am still going to try to get to this one this summer… 1w
DebinHawaii Also I feel the need for a Dirty Dancing rewatch too now. 💃🏻🕺🏻 1w
peanutnine @DebinHawaii I've got that book checked out from my library to read next! 1w
peanutnine Also I live near Lake Lure where they filmed the lake lift scenes from Dirty Dancing and every summer they have a Dirty Dancing festival there. We went a few years ago and it was so fun! They had a little museum display about the Catskills along with shag lessons, watermelon races, and a lake lift competition 1w
Karisa @mcctrish Sounds like a great excuse to go to Europe! And the first part of Season 2 centers around Rose running off to Paris! Someday I‘ll make it there again 🇫🇷 1w
Sparklemn @Kdgordon88 I would have loved it, too. We did summer weeks at lake resorts in Minnesota which were fun but in no way comparable to the size and amenities of the Catskills! Good memories, though. 1w
mollyrotondo So glad they are using the Go Fund Me money for a museum. It‘s a major part of history that needs to be preserved somehow. I‘d definitely go! 1w

The next door neighbor delighted at the downfall of Aimee or anything that went on with their lives … why are people this way ?

Librarybelle I don‘t know if it is jealousy on the part of some to act like totally horrible people or just a superiority complex in general. It‘s sad when people can take pleasure in other‘s misfortune. 2w
Prairiegirl_reading Some people are just assholes. 2w
AmyG Schadenfreude. I wonder if it‘s unhappy people who feel this way. 2w
See All 13 Comments
CoffeeNBooks I think it's probably people who are unhappy with their own lives for whatever reason, so they have too much time to think about other people's lives. 2w
DanaManiac Miserable people love to interfere, especially to wait for something bad to happen. It‘s so slimy! 2w
Karisa Some people do view life as a competition… It‘s too bad but glad that Aimee is moving forward. 1w
kspenmoll Agree with everyone. Neighbor unhappy, jealous maybe at what she sees on the surface, miserable woman, slimy as @DanaManiac said! 1w
DebinHawaii Yep, unhappy people who want to bring others down. 😡 1w
vlwelser So weird. Like why do you even care enough to be up in the neighbor's business. They do this where I live. I think they all got bored during Covid. 1w
Sargar114 @CoffeeNBooks @DanaManiac @kspenmoll you said it! Misery loves company. She clearly has nothing better to do, ugh 1w
mollyrotondo Definitely agree that misery loves company. It‘s sooo frustrating!! 1w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Absolutely a superiority complex. 5d

Aimee really was her dads biological child?! Spots 🤣🤯😅🥴

Librarybelle That was a second plot twist I did not see coming! How funny!! 2w
AmyG Ha, I didn‘t see that coming either. 2w
CoffeeNBooks I definitely didn't see that plot twist coming! Good for Louise that she can be relieved to know that Aimee is, in fact, Benny's daughter. 2w
See All 14 Comments
DanaManiac That was wild! I‘m so glad to know she‘s not the pickle man‘s daughter! 😂 2w
Kdgordon88 Nice twist. I was glad for Louise to not have to feel guilty. 2w
Karisa @DanaManiac 😂😂😂 (That will never stop being funny!) 2w
kspenmoll Pickle man!!! 😂😂 I did not guess this at all! 1w
mcctrish Yay for plot twists 🤣🤣🤣 1w
DebinHawaii It was a good twist! I was happy for Louise and Aimee. Although those were some expensive pickles Louise bought! 🤣🥒🤣 1w
vlwelser That pickle man thing is still funny. 1w
Sargar114 This was a lovey plot twist too. I‘m glad that‘s how it ended up. 1w
mollyrotondo I mean what a question to have all these years. That‘s nice it was finally made certain for Louise but maybe it‘s more the guilt that‘s been haunting her this whole time. And that was the universe saying okay you paid your penance for all these years we will clear this up now for you. 1w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Louise gets a mostly clean conscience and Aimee is none the wiser. Whew...I was worried Pickle Man might show up with a say about the fate of The Golden. 5d
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick pickle man was a good storyline 🤣🤣 4d

Roger is an asshole and an EXhusband hurrah

I wish we got more of how long he had to go to jail!

Did you like how his story ended ?

Librarybelle Roger is a class A jerk! Ugh… 2w
Prairiegirl_reading While I loved that they got divorced I would have liked a little more detail on what happened to him. 2w
AmyG He was horrible. But, if not for that, Aimee and Brian would never have gotten together. 2w
See All 21 Comments
CoffeeNBooks Roger was awful. I'm glad Aimee was able to move on and seems very happy with Brian. 2w
DanaManiac Roger got what he deserved and Aimee is free from him. Yay! 2w
Kdgordon88 Glad he is gone from Aimee‘s life and suffering the consequences from his actions. 2w
Karisa Glad there was some justice both in and out of book. Never seems like enough though with lives destroyed/lost. Sacklers were worth $10 billion in 2020. So now they just have $4 billion? 🤦🏻‍♀️😬😢 https://www.forbes.com/profile/sackler/?sh=cb0c1635d631 2w
kspenmoll Roger deserved what happened to him regarding prostituting himself to big pharma & destroying lives, including his family‘s- although in the end his despicable behavior freed them all. Read or listen to the 1w
mcctrish @kspenmoll I‘m going to look that up and Dopesick. I was plenty perturbed that Roger was still dealing right up to the end by the hotel despite the family home being raided ( I read that right ?) 1w
DebinHawaii What a jerk! I feel sorry for the kids and glad Amy is free of him. 1w
peanutnine @mcctrish that little piece of information made me so angry. Even after he was caught he kept at it - and still expected Aimee to bail him out 😡 1w
kspenmoll @mcctrish @TheBookHippie My husband read the book; I listened to it. The audiobook had some added material in the end about how this book affected the author & his family. It is read by the author, Patrick Radden Keefe. 1w
mcctrish @kspenmoll that makes it more intriguing 1w
vlwelser I sort of like that the author just dumped him out of the story once she was done with him. It seemed fitting. 1w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser HA. Buhbye …. 💯 1w
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll I can‘t imagine having it all in your mind at once … 🤯 1w
Sargar114 @vlwelser I liked that too. I didn‘t want to spend any more brain power on him anyway 1w
mollyrotondo So glad Aimee dumped him and I‘m hoping he sees serious jail time. I hated him so much. He just got worse and worse. I was surprised Aimee and Brian still ended up together but they were better suited for one another than Brian and Angela (name check? Lol) (edited) 1w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I was really hoping to hear about his punishment, but glad that Aimee is free of him once and for all! 5d

The HUSSY is Andrews grandmother Maddies fiancé NOW HUSBAND grandma -bungalow bunny ??- the hoite toite
Esther now Esteé HILARIOUS
ALWAYS -that‘s always the way…

I loved this storyline ! What did you think of how Maddies story wrapped up?
also they eloped?! Bravo.

Librarybelle I just hope that Andrew can stand up against his parents. It does show, now that we know about his grandmother, that there is courage to do your own thing in the family. Maddie is happy, which is a good thing! 2w
AmyG I was happy Andrew turned out to be a good guy. And I will say, that generation was wild. They were just more discreet or they kept quiet about it. 2w
CoffeeNBooks I thought that was another funny twist to the story. I'm also glad Andrew ended up being a good guy, and I think Maddie is truly happy with how things turned out. 2w
See All 28 Comments
DanaManiac This was definitely a funny subplot! I‘m glad they decided to do their own thing, but I also hope Andrew is vocal in regards to his family. What they did to Maddie was horrible, regardless of whether or not his grandma was the secret “hussy”. 2w
Kdgordon88 This made me happy. I‘m glad they are going to forge their own path. 2w
TheBookHippie @DanaManiac I agree, it doesn't dismiss how abusive they were. HOPEFULLY they will ban together as a couple and put up a very thick boundary wall! 2w
Karisa I liked this outcome too. I did not predict that series of events! Such a fun book! 2w
Karisa @AmyG Yeah, you are so right! The older generations had their scandals and rebels too. Time just mellows some of them out, I guess. My grandma and mom have great stories from back in the day! They were wild(ish) 😂 2w
AmyG @Karisa Someone told me once that my mother loved parties when she was younger. I was mortified. 🤣 1w
Karisa @AmyG We have an annual summer “Family Weekend” (women only) with my grandma and her sisters‘ daughters/granddaughters/daughters-in-law. We hang out by the pool and oh the stories! Most of my mom‘s are about “dragging main” 😂 Grandma‘s are about growing up after the dust bowl. 1w
TheBookHippie @Karisa @AmyG my parents went to key parties.........I just CANNOT.....my grandma was a dance hall girl for her side job and made money to put her little brother 19 years younger threw private school because he was so slight public school didn't work........DANCE HALL GIRL. OY VEY. Otherwise she was at *Drumroll* the fancy department store counter ! She didn't get married until she was almost 30. SCANDAL. 1w
kspenmoll I loved this sudden subplot & how Andrew & Maddie took courage from it to please themselves! 1w
mcctrish @AmyG I was happy too! I was certain he‘d bail. I laughed out loud at his grandma‘s reveal 🤣🤣 1w
DebinHawaii I thought it was great. It gives Maddie some much needed “leverage” in dealing with them. Hopefully, as others have said, Andrew will stay strong & Maddie will be happy. 1w
AmyG @TheBookHippie Key parties! 🤣🤣🤣 1w
TheBookHippie @AmyG Well my mother IS A shiksa 🤣🤣…. OY. 1w
TheBookHippie @AmyG also I cannot look at fishbowls without remembering 🤐 1w
AmyG @TheBookHippie I know of many Jews who had key parties. You didn‘t have to be a shiksa. 🤣 1w
peanutnine @DebinHawaii I agree! She can't talk bad about the Catskills now that they know she was a part of them. I'm glad Andrew turned out to be a good guy. I just hope Maddie will be her own person with him 1w
TheBookHippie @AmyG 🤣🤣🤣 well … there were lots of Jewish men there so 🤣🤣🙃😅 1w
vlwelser I thought this was great. Andrew pulled through for sure. 1w
Karisa @TheBookHippie We should have known you come from a long line of wild, free spirited women! Wowza! 1w
TheBookHippie @Karisa 🤣🤣🤣 1w
Sargar114 I loved that little spin. It was such a funny closure. Seemed like Andrew figured he was being a bit of a tool and is working to make it right, so giving him some kudos. 1w
Sparklemn @Kdgordon88 That's how I felt, too. Glad he came to find her at the Golden and that all turned out well.. 1w
mollyrotondo I was very surprised he just showed up at the hotel on his own. I give him credit for trying to fix it. I still worry about the two of them rushing into marriage since they both seem to need to do a little growing and learning but they have potential lol yeah I‘m not surprised his grandma was a “wild” young woman because only a family trying to over compensate for their own scandals puts others down like that 1w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I love that you used this lady to represent Estee. LOL I'm glad Andrew seems to be able to think for himself a little bit and came to see Maddie. I don't know if they'll have a happily ever after, but they seem happy now. I'll take it. ( I also just realized I got sidetracked & didn't actually join in yet!) 5d
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick RIGHT? She is bungalo bunny Estee! 5d

I had so much fun reading along with the group for the #sundaybuddyread. Loved the families and the setting in the Catskills. I had a little trouble remembering which grandparents, parents and children belonged to which family. Still a definite pick!

Prairiegirl_reading The family tree at the front of the book was definitely helpful! 2w
Sparklemn @Prairiegirl_reading That's one of the things I dislike about e-readers. I always forget to go back and look at the family trees and maps and other illustrations that are often included! 2w
Prairiegirl_reading @Sparklemn ereaders are convenient in lots of ways but that definitely isn‘t one of them! 2w

It was KILLING me to stop reading at all the #sundaybuddyread predetermined sections and now that I‘m finished it, I‘m so sad!!! What a perfect summer read! I loved everything about it, the history of the Borscht Belt, the multigenerational story, the twists and turns and the ending. I picked this book up because it had summer in the title and discovered a few days later @TheBookHippie was doing a buddy read with it ❤️❤️ July has been wonderful

TheBookHippie 💚💚💚💚💚💚 2w
Prairiegirl_reading I finished on Sunday as soon as the last discussion was done! I did wait but it was hard! 2w

Book #43 done for 2022. If you loved Dirty Dancing you will love this book. It was a fun summer read!

It's about 101°F/38°C out there but luckily it's a dry heat here in NJ. I ran my errands & did some cleaning. My guy is at his parents' house for a while. Hopefully I can finish three chapters, answer the #sundaybuddyread questions, and read some more!

post image

What a perfect book to read during the summer! It makes me want to watch Dirty Dancing on repeat and has a beautiful nostalgic feel to it of the bygone era of family resort vacations in the Catskills. Told in multiple viewpoints, this novel is the ups and downs of operating the last remaining resort in the Catskills and all of its complications. It‘s hilarious in parts with a sweet ending. Perfect choice for #SundayBuddyRead !

Itchyfeetreader Have been looking for a book set in a hotel / inn for booked 2022 and this is a 99p kindle special. Result!! (edited) 2w

What a gem of a summer read! Joining in discussion today then I have to finish this! #sundaybuddyread #booksandcoffee #porchlife

Amiable Early in the day is the only way to get any reading outside right now! This stretch of heat and humidity has been brutal. 😖 There‘s a reason why I don‘t live in the south! 3w
TheBookHippie I cannot wait to finish!! 2w
kspenmoll @Amiable So true! I am walking at 6:00 a.m. then reading until the heat sends me indoors. My husband is from Tampa & never wanted to move back!!! 2w

We get to finish it now !!!!!

Any predictions ??

As always thanks for Sundays and discussions.

Perfect July book for me, how about you?

Librarybelle Perfect July book, indeed! I hope they save the Golden…I‘m loving a lot of the ideas the younger generation has. 3w
kspenmoll I loved it for a July read! 3w
AmyG I am hoping, too, that the Golden gets reinvented. This book has brought me alot of memories. I wish I had some pictures from my childhood at all these hotels. My step-father had all our photos in slides….who the hell knows what happened to them? 3w
See All 28 Comments
CoffeeNBooks I have to read the last section right now before it's due back later today and my library download automatically disappears. 😂 I am so ready to find out how this story ends, though! I hope it ends on a good note! 3w
Prairiegirl_reading I was enjoying the first two sections but I was behind for discussion but this section!? Not what I was expecting! I‘m trying not to have expectations because I have been so pleasantly surprised so far. I do want the hotel to stay open though. And definitely for Roger to get what he deserves! I can‘t wait to find out what happens! 3w
mcctrish I posted my predictions on the last slide 🤣🤣 and now that the end is near I don‘t want to immediately finish it and have this spectacular story end. This was a great summer buddy read, I‘m so glad I jumped on this bandwagon. I‘ve bought the next 2 already and I got a gift card for my birthday to buy the rest to finish out 2022 🎉🎉#mysundaysarebooked 3w
Sargar114 @CoffeeNBooks that happened to me this week! I had to run to my other library to go pick up a physical copy 😂 (I actually think I‘m enjoying it more in physical copy more) 3w
Sargar114 Only predictions I have is that if they sell this would make a wonderful little movie but if they keep it and build it up would love to see it as a tv show (oh the directions it could go!!!). Really enjoying this fun little ride 3w
Sparklemn It‘s a perfect summer read. Great pick!! 3w
CoffeeNBooks @Sargar114 I didn't finish before it disappeared from my phone. And my library doesn't have any physical copies available, either. 😭 I got on the waitlist again and hopefully I'll get it soon! 😂 3w
Kdgordon88 @CoffeeNBooks I have finished my copy and will send it to you tomorrow! 2w
TheBookHippie @Sparklemn after last months debacle I‘m so glad this is this much fun! Well, we have fun anyway but this IS a good read! 2w
DebinHawaii I made my predictions or musings on what I hoped happens on the last post. But to recap I am hopping besides the Go Fund Me there is additional money to get the renovations done & the Golden continues on. And that Roger has a lovely time in prison! 😆 Loving this book for July-I may have to finish early. @TheBookHippie Hope you are ok after the gluten & you feel better! 💜 2w
julieclair They have to keep the hotel!!! Bring back the Borscht Belt! I agree that this was a perfect July read. Can‘t wait to finish it! 2w
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii finally upright without cramping. I had lucky charms dry as a snack before bed -apparently there are massive reports of people getting sick after eating them according to the inter webs 🤯😡. I won‘t eat them again they are supposed to be GF. 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄 2w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish HA!!! ♥️♥️♥️ I‘m so glad you joined in. We have a lot of fun. Even when the book is bad like last month🤣. We‘ve had some great times on Sundays these past 5 years! So happy to have you and your input! (edited) 2w
julieclair @AmyG My childhood is all on slides too. I have a gizmo that will convert them to digital… one at a time. A rather overwhelming project. 🤪 Do you ever go back to the Catskills now as an adult? 2w
mcctrish @Sargar114 oh I‘d love either of those predictions to come true 🙏🏻🙏🏻 2w
mcctrish I‘m glad you are feeling better Christine 2w
AmyG @julieclair My sister was in charge of the slides. She got a bunch digitalized but I am not aure if ahe even has them all. And I live in CO now. The last time I went was to the Concord in 1986….and it was really run down. We had a leak ON our bed which woke me in the middle of the night (drip drip). It was really very sad. 2w
CoffeeNBooks @Kdgordon88 Thank you so much!! That's so sweet of you! 2w
julieclair @AmyG That is really sad about the Concord. We had a similar experience when we spent a horrible night on the Delta Queen paddlewheeler about 10 years ago. Such an old beauty, but it was in no condition to be used as a hotel. 2w
Catsandbooks I am behind but will try to catch up for the end! 2w
peanutnine Loving this read so much, and reading everyone's thoughts and reactions. It makes it even more enjoyable! 2w
TheBookHippie @peanutnine I so agree!!! 2w
TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks 🎉🎉🎉 it‘s such a fun read! 2w
mollyrotondo Love this one! It moves so swiftly and I just want to keep following these characters. Excellent read and great for summer vibes! I definitely want the Golden to stay open and for everyone to work as a family unit again. And Roger needs to go to prison and Aimee needs to figure out what she wants to do with her future without Roger. 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This one had been fun, entertaining drama... perfect for summer. I hope the hotel is saved and the different generations come together to run it. (Not everyone needs to be there full-time) I also hope Roger gets diarrhea in his car, because three hots and a cot sounds too good for him. 2w

I‘m sure I missed something
What made you gasp???

Librarybelle I‘m not sure about gasping, but Louise and the pickle man was the biggest surprise. Roger showing up made me groan. The casino and its descriptions made me laugh. I hope Peter can pull his family together and show them how much he cares. 3w
kspenmoll So much going on! I really enjoyed getting to know Louise, & her relationship with Amiee. Of course the pickle man story. 3w
AmyG Yes, quite a few surprises. Every family has their secrets. I am guessing that the possible sale of this hotel brings this family back together…except for Roger. He needs to GO. I am hoping they choose to reinvent the Golden. 3w
See All 16 Comments
vlwelser Louise and the pickle man was my fav. But also Michael and the hairdresser and how Aimee reacted to the whole thing. 3w
CoffeeNBooks There was so much in this section! I think this section, more than in the previous sections, really showed the true character of all of the characters. Aimee and Zach are still my favorites, but I have a better appreciation for some of the others. But Roger is just a horrible man. 3w
Prairiegirl_reading Louise and the pickle man, Benny‘s questionable actions, the baby, Michael and the hairdresser! Loved it all! I really laughed when Louise got pooped on at goat yoga! Like of course it was Louise!! 🤣🤣 3w
mcctrish Honestly this book is becoming “How Aimee gets her groove on “ for me. She‘s going to let Roger rot and the Golden will live on, she will work there and so will Zach. Peter can provide counsel. Phoebe doesn‘t get to stay cuz she‘s mean 3w
Sargar114 I like it @mcctrish! I was really thinking they were going to sell but the gofundme really throws a wrench in that! This has been such a fun read! 3w
Sparklemn @Librarybelle I confess that casino slots are my guilty pleasure. 🤫The casino descriptions were spot on! 3w
Sparklemn @mcctrish Cuz she‘s mean. Love your reasoning!! 😆 👍 (edited) 3w
DebinHawaii Nothing made me gasp but I liked the fast & furious twists that are making this book interesting & entertaining. I am most intrigued about the Go Fund Me & what Amos knows about Benny‘s betrayal & keeping🤞🏼that somehow that it is going to end up good with getting them enough money between the two to renovate & keep the Golden. (And that vile Roger goes to jail!) 🤣 2w
DebinHawaii And @mcctrish 🤣🤣🤣(Phoebe) 2w
julieclair Louise and the pickle man made me gasp in a “you‘ve got to be kidding” kind of way, and Benny stealing from Amos made me gasp in a “oh no this is so sad and I don‘t want to believe it” kind of way. 2w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish Phoebe 💯 2w
mollyrotondo Definitely was shocked by the pickle man story lol but I just love seeing how other people want to keep the hotel going and not just members of the family. The community element is really nice and surprising too because Friedland just gives us little tastes of it. 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick The Pickle Vendor giving Louise the ol' pickle tickle, Michael getting a blow out, ther pregnancy... so much happened here. My cousin's baby shower next month will likely pale in comparison to this family drama. I did like the line in Ch 16 - Whether Brian "liked" her or "like-liked" her was irrelevant. No matter how old you get, you still want to be like-liked. ❤ 2w

Well a pregnancy for BRIAN …🤯

Go Fund Me - WOWIE 🤯

Phew this section WAS A LOT 🤯

Where is the baby story going ?
What conversation will they have ?
I can‘t see either of them wanting to be together?

Librarybelle I wonder who started the GoFund Me! The pregnancy storyline is a little surprising to me, but with all of the little secrets coming out, it shouldn‘t really be surprising. This last section should be a ride for sure! 3w
kspenmoll Not sure what will happen with the pregnancy-0these two seem to only have the hotel in common…Go Fund Me campaign seemed to give people a chance to share memories & give back to the hotel. 3w
AmyG I, too, was surprised by the baby storyline. I still wonder if Brian and Amiee get together. I just don‘t see him with the girlfriend who has given him a way out, telling him he doesn‘t have to marry her. Maybe they just co-parent. 3w
See All 16 Comments
vlwelser Why do these books get so good in the third section and then it's basically over because I'm about to go devour the last section? That might be a me problem. 3w
vlwelser And the baby thing is weird. No idea what the author has planned there. 3w
CoffeeNBooks The baby storyline feels like one too many plot twists, but maybe it will all make sense in the last section. I really want to know who started the Go Fund Me- what great stories people are sharing! 3w
Prairiegirl_reading So much happens in this section! It was really difficult to stop at chapter 24! 3w
mcctrish I love the Go Fund Me storyline!! Fanny etc reaction is priceless, they‘d rather go down in flames 🤦🏻‍♀️ the pregnancy seemed like a mother mail in Aimee‘s coffin to me BUT she can‘t go from Roger to Brian. My head was spinning with all the twists 3w
Sargar114 After the pregnancy announcement I can‘t imagine a future for Aimee and Brian. Ultimately that‘s probably for the best though, they seem to each need to find their own way. Also, have we ruled out Phoebe or Zach doing the gofundme? Phoebe is the influencer with internet saavy. Zach with his secret business saavy? 3w
Sparklemn @CoffeeNBooks I agree about the baby being one too many plot twists. It seems unnecessary. 3w
DebinHawaii I think it was the author‘s way of not making Aimee & Brian an immediate couple. I like them both but Amy needs to kick Roger to the curb & stand on her own for a while. I do wonder about who started the fundraiser. Is it someone in the family group? This next section will be interesting. I usually make myself wait until the Saturday before the discussion to read but I might have to make an exception! 😱 2w
julieclair The whole baby thing seems so out of left field. I have a feeling that something will happen there… like maybe the baby isn‘t Brian‘s, or worse, she will have a miscarriage. And Aimee will comfort Brian in his grief, paving the way for them to end up together. 2w
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I wait as well so I can discuss with all the late posters but …. It‘s going to be so hard to wait!!! 2w
DanaManiac The baby plot twist was surprising. I feel like I could see it going either way- him staying with the girlfriend that he doesn‘t love or him taking a risk for Aimee, hoping that her own messy situation will give her an open mind. 2w
mollyrotondo I‘m more interested in the 5Bs and the GoFundMe. It could be a group of people who started the campaign or it could be Scott (is he that unaware just because he‘s at school?). I love the IG thread showing all the people who still love the hotel and don‘t want to see it torn down. It‘s really lovely when people come together to support something that brings joy. 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick With the pregnancy announcement, I doubt Aimee & Brian pair up, though I still want to see it. (Maybe a Next Summer epilogue hints at something.) I couldn't figure out who might've started the GoFundMe... maybe Maddie's bf? Maybe the Pickle Vendor?! 🤣🤣 Gotta keep his potential daughter's legacy alive. 2w

Phoebe drops two bombs
“This is just fun”
And oh hey your dads a drug lord (Roger)

What do you think of Phoebe?

Librarybelle Phoebe is a shrewd businesswoman. I guess she picked up a lot of her know how from Peter! 3w
kspenmoll Phoebe is smart, savvy, creative- I think she was naming the real villain in the family. 3w
AmyG She seems to be the new generation businesswoman in the family. I wonder if she winds up involved in the, perhaps, running of the new hotel??? If it‘s not sold? 3w
See All 14 Comments
vlwelser She seems to be the spokeswoman for the generation Brian was talking about. The young people that don't care about offending people. I was a little surprised she dropped that bomb at dinner. Maybe I'm in the older group 😂 3w
CoffeeNBooks I felt so bad for Zach when she said that, especially since it was in front of everyone. @AmyG I'm wondering if she'll be involved in running the hotel, too. 3w
mcctrish I‘m not a phoebe fan right now 3w
Sparklemn I don‘t know how I feel about Phoebe yet. I go back and forth between admiring her directness and spirit and cringing at her thinking she knows everything about everything. 🤷‍♀️ 3w
Sargar114 When Zach confided in her I was super worried something like this would happen. She is coming off as pretty terrible as well. 3w
julieclair I agree with @Librarybelle and @kspenmoll that Phoebe is a shrewd, creative businesswoman. But her ego needs to be taken down a notch or two and she needs to develop some tact. Hopefully those are things that will come with maturity. (edited) 3w
DebinHawaii I was liking her until the dinner. I have no issue with her calling out vile Roger but hurting Zach (& Maddie) especially to do it there was not kind. Also the “we‘re just having fun comment” while maybe understandable given the meddling family was also unkind. 2w
TheBookHippie @Sparklemn I‘m chalking it up to youth but I agree… 2w
DanaManiac Phoebe has a lot of growing up to do. She‘s not wrong, but the delivery was horrible and you learn as you get older that delivery really matters. 2w
mollyrotondo I am not a fan of phoebe even though I think she‘s what the hotel needs in order to revitalize the hotel and draw more business. But she has no tact and she needs to learn to not walk all over people who are close to you because then you‘ll have no one on your side. Zach should be an ally and not a plaything. 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Phoebe isn't my favorite, but I like her. She's knowledgeable with modern marketing/ social media and seems to care about the hotel. It would be great if the different generations commit to working together. I, too, like to poke the bear and might share the bad news about Roger at dinner, but I do feel bad for Zach. However, if we're rooting for Aimee/Brian pairing, a Phoebe/ Zach one might be a bit weird, too. 2w

Peter and

Librarybelle Peter seemed to be a bit clueless how his workaholic tendencies destroyed, or nearly destroyed his loved ones. I think we learn a bit more of why Greta is the way she is, and I feel bad. I hope Peter‘s realizations will make him change his ways, and that he will show Greta how much he cares. 3w
kspenmoll Peter‘s work obsession at the expense of knowing his kids & spending no time with Greta unless work function allows us to see Greta in a different light. 3w
AmyG I feel bad for Greta. I am hoping, now that Peter seems to realize what his workaholism did to his family, he is able to “make up” for lost time. He seems on that path. 3w
See All 17 Comments
vlwelser I'm starting to like this pair. 3w
CoffeeNBooks This helps make more sense about how Greta is. It's too bad the Goldmans call her "Greeda." I don't think they would if they knew her story. I feel bad for Peter that it took until his kids were all grown up to realize that he missed out. It's good that he's at least trying to make up for lost time now. 3w
mcctrish Once Peter showed up I felt he was immediately likeable. He gets how is tunnel vision for work has had consequences. I gasped out loud when Fanny called Greta Greeda, I thought it was mean, to me it was obvious why Greta was doing all the things she did 3w
Sparklemn @mcctrish I found him and Greta more likable, too, than I expected. It was nice! 3w
Sargar114 Agreed @mcctrish And I‘ll add that in comparison to the last question, notice how Peter defended his wife when insulted. 3w
Sargar114 At first I was annoyed at getting yet another perspective but ended up really enjoying Peter. Nobody‘s perfect and he‘s discovering his shortcomings and trying to do better. It seems in character for what he know about his teen years. Who knows if it will stick once he leaves but is making for a likeable character. I‘m randomly hoping he offers Zach a job with his firm. 3w
DebinHawaii I liked that Peter is trying & likable & hope that the changes he is making in himself stick. I loved his scene with Michael & also with defending Greta too. It does seem like Greta has gotten somewhat of a bad rap in the family. 3w
julieclair I think Peter has had a revelation, and will work hard to curb his workaholic behavior. But I feel so sorry for him, for all he has missed, and even more sorry for his family, for not having him present in their lives for all those years, and feeling like his work was more important than they were. 3w
DanaManiac I find Peter to be very likable because he had the right intentions and was able to pivot once he realized it wasn‘t working for his family, even though it was quite late in the game when he did. 2w
mollyrotondo @Sargar114 exactly! This sealed the deal for me on liking Peter 2w
mollyrotondo I am so glad Peter came to the hotel. He seemed like a cold jerk but I really like Peter and Greta as a couple. They lost their way after children and work took over each of them and now they can give themselves a second chance. Peter seems like a good guy. 2w
mollyrotondo Also another comparison: Peter v. Roger. Peter was absent because he was working for his family. And yes he could have done better but he‘s realizing now that his family needs him and not just the money he brings home to them. Whereas Roger does everything for himself. Selling drugs was so he could live a lavish lifestyle. He‘s dishonest through and through and continues to make excuses for himself and act like he deserves pity for his behavior 2w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo Ughhhh Roger. Complete narcissist … I hope jail is where he ends up! 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick It was nice to hear from Peter since this section made him human and not a workaholic caricature. He stuck up for his wife, had a nice heart to heart with his son, and hopefully starts to change his ways. He's earned and likely has decent investments. Maybe he'll be more involved with his family and the Golden. 🤞 I like to hope that these twin sons will come together. 2w

Maddies boyfriends family…
Were you surprised to see her boyfriend show up?

Also hey that‘s my grandma ?! 🤯

Librarybelle Andrew‘s family seems to be the stereotypical rich white family - no surprises from me about their attitude towards Maddie and her background. 3w
kspenmoll I agree with @Librarybelle Another book I am reading also addresses the hierarchical structure/ per money status in Jewish communities 3w
AmyG @kspenmoll Yep….the hierarchial structure/money….I know it well. In my case it had to do with a generation that emigrated from Europe, where they were or felt more entitled than in the US. (edited) 3w
See All 17 Comments
vlwelser This was just mean. I'm glad she walked away. 3w
CoffeeNBooks I felt so bad for Maddie- how horrible to have your family spoken about like that, right in front of you. And the fact that Andrew said nothing in her defense is awful. 3w
mcctrish I am glad she walked away sooner than later 3w
Sparklemn @coffeenbooks If he had defended her, I might have said give him a chance. But when he didn‘t? Kick him to the curb, Maddie. (edited) 3w
Sargar114 I‘m so glad Maddie left. If he can‘t defend the woman he allegedly loved to his mother then he clearly doesn‘t love her 3w
julieclair To speak about her family like that… just goes to show that money can‘t buy class! 3w
DebinHawaii His family is a stereotype for sure & it sucks he didn‘t defend her but it sounds like he is under their thumb. I‘m glad she left. (But it sounds from the question like he is showing up at the Golden which doesn‘t surprise me!) 😉 3w
slategreyskies I was surprised he could recognize his grandma. I don‘t think I would‘ve been able to recognize mine in a pic from when she was young. 2w
DanaManiac @Sparklemn yeah I wonder what happens next for them because I wouldn‘t have put up with that nonsense. 2w
mollyrotondo What catty women! I‘m glad Maddie left since she didn‘t seem like an independent enough character. I‘m glad she didn‘t just cling to Andrew after that whole rude mess. 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick To quote the great Stephanie Tanner, "How rude!" Overhearing comments would be one thing, but talking shit to her face, whether or not he spoke up for Maddie, I'm glad she left. You don't have to love your in-laws, but jizzy crizzy, have some damn respect for them and their family, until they do something truly heinous. His mom sounds like a right little bougie bitch and I hope Maddie holds out for better in-laws. 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Did you stumble on this photo or did you have it and purposely picked it? Go grandma! Get down, get down! 🤣 2w
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick my great research which I thoroughly enjoy. 2w

Roger …vile man
He has to text worried about the price of the hotel?!
Then he shows up?‘
And doesn‘t care she cheated
Just money
Plus blaming her for his actions?!
Plus telling family secrets?
What an awful person
Did he ever love Aimee?
Why did he send for the other son?

Librarybelle Roger is a creep! I think a lot of my suspicions were confirmed with his character by the random show up. We ended on a perfect cliffhanger with this week‘s reading! 3w
kspenmoll Roger is a vile man. Enough said! 3w
AmyG She needs to divorce him. He shouldn‘t get a penny from her. 3w
See All 20 Comments
vlwelser Roger is the worst. He needs to go away. 3w
CoffeeNBooks Roger is awful. I can't believe he showed up at the Golden. What a jerk! 3w
Prairiegirl_reading I thought it was bad enough for him to put pressure on Zach to sell but then to show up!!! And to be so unbothered about Aimee and Brian! Ugh I wanted to slap him! 3w
mcctrish For Roger‘s sake I want the hotel to survive and thrive ( I mean for Aimee and Brian etc.. too) but I want him to just rot. I know Aimee has to come into her own on her but his dismissal of her and Brian just cements he doesn‘t care at all 3w
Sparklemn Blaming his awful behavior on Amy being so “perfect” and not feeling accepted by her family and friends was despicable!! (edited) 3w
Sargar114 @TheBookHippie thank you for mentioning the not caring about her cheating and the victim blaming here. Now THAT was a throw the book moment. He is a terrible human being!!! (edited) 3w
julieclair Roger is concerned only with one thing: money. He overlooks everything I his pursuit of it. First becoming a vile pill pusher to support a lavish lifestyle, and now not caring about Aimee‘s hookup with Brian because he is so focused on selling the hotel so Aimee‘s money can keep him out of jail. He totally deserves jail time, and Aimee deserves to be free of him. 3w
DebinHawaii He is a very bad person. I think brining the other son (I just forgot his name) is to have someone who has been disconnected from the family & all the nostalgia that he thinks will be a vote for selling. 3w
Kdgordon88 Roger is evil and a complete *ss. To expect Aimee to turn over her share to save him, unbelievable. I hope he rots in jail. 3w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I threw the book…. Ugh. 2w
slategreyskies I can‘t stand Roger. Ugh!! 2w
Karisa I keep thinking Roger is going to get away with his drug dealing. Didn‘t the manufacturers themselves just pay fines (a fraction of the profits they made)? Thanks for sharing the article, at least some had consequences for the part they played. 😢 2w
DanaManiac I couldn‘t believe his response to Amy‘s confession. He‘s so single-minded and focused only on saving himself from the mess he‘s responsible for creating. 2w
TheBookHippie @Karisa He'd better got to JAIL!!! ugh.....I hope he loses everything! 2w
mollyrotondo This guy is the true villain of the story. There is nothing redeemable. He only cares about himself. To blame Aimee and her family for being so “perfect” that your only option was being a drug pusher, an opioid dealer? Uhh crying me a river. He wanted that lavish lifestyle and didn‘t care who he hurt to get it. And then to be more worried about Brian‘s vote than his marriage? Uhhh he definitely called Scott so he could get a “sell the hotel” vote 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Roger is an asshole. The character isn't meant to be redeemed. If he balked at Aimee's admission of sleeping with Brian, he'd prove he at least loved her. He loves himself and by inviting his other son, that just tells me he thinks he can get his support toward selling the Golden and is only thinking about helping himself. What a douche canoe. (Sorry to my guy, named Roger, who insists it's a name for unsavory characters.) 2w
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I cannot with Roger 🙄🤢😡 2w

So the hairdressers chair incident ….

Well. Now they know.

Thoughts ?!

Librarybelle Another hilarious way for the pieces to fall into place! Everyone‘s reaction to the scene does fit with their characters - it does seem a little surprising that Amos and Fanny were completely in shock, but I guess they had their own version of Michael in their minds that fit with their expectations. 3w
kspenmoll This scene like so many shows us the characters in funny/unexpected situations. I live Michael‘s character- so authentic. 3w
AmyG While this seemed a little over the top, you knew they were going to find out. 3w
See All 20 Comments
vlwelser I loved this. Michael clearly wasn't very discreet with his "secret" This book is fun. 3w
CoffeeNBooks Poor Michael, although the hairdressers probably wasn't the best place to go to be discreet! 3w
Prairiegirl_reading I thought this was hilarious! 3w
mcctrish I kept thinking but what about Aimee‘s hair 🤣🤣 3w
Sparklemn @vlwelser It is fun! I loved that scene. 3w
Sargar114 This was such a wonderfully done reveal in that I could picture it happening. I did love that most of the family were more shocked by the incident vs the fact he was gay. The best part of this book is despite the shenanigans you can really feel the love and closeness of the group. 3w
julieclair This scene was a hoot! And the family conversation afterwards seemed pretty realistic, with the older generation shocked and struggling, the middle generation surprised but accepting/supportive, and the younger generation already aware and not thinking anything of it. It mirrors the progress we have made in society over the years, although we still have far to go. 3w
DebinHawaii It was a bit over the top but fun/funny.🤣Everyones‘ reactions seemed in character & as @julieclair said, generationally appropriate. 3w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish her poor hair!! 2w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I loved it!!!! Laughed right out loud picturing my family in that situation 🤣🤣🤣🎉🙄 2w
slategreyskies Does anyone else find it hilarious that he was wearing nothing but a cape? I laughed so hard at that! 2w
Karisa @mcctrish 😂 Me too! It was like, but her hair… 2w
DanaManiac @slategreyskies yes absolutely! The scene was described so perfectly that I could picture it all going down! 😂 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @slategreyskies I snorted in laughter at the cape! Aimee didn't try hard enough to protect Michael, though. What a scene and mental image. 🤣🤣🤣 Would it be wrong to make a joke about Diego giving Michael a blow out? 2w
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. 2w
mollyrotondo This scene was another classic moment in the book. I can‘t believe Fanny passed out 😂 and I agree that Aimee didn‘t do enough to steer them away lol but it‘s good for Michael that it‘s out in the open and it‘s good for his parents and grandparents to stop brushing it off and just embrace Michael wholeheartedly 2w

Aimee‘s dad Benny was stealing OR?!?!?!

Librarybelle This was a bit shocking. I think we need to know a bit more about this. 3w
kspenmoll It feels like such a betrayal- I too was shocked when the book took this turn. @Librarybelle 3w
AmyG I think this will be revealed in the last section. @Librarybelle is right….we need to know more about this. (edited) 3w
See All 18 Comments
vlwelser It seems like something else is happening. And the buyer wants to bring the price down. 3w
CoffeeNBooks I don't want to believe it's true- there's got to be more to the story. But then we read about all the expensive things Benny paid for, and it makes you wonder. 3w
Prairiegirl_reading What a shock! That chapter was so short and what a jaw dropper! 3w
mcctrish So many information bombs dropping. Every chapter has big moment, I wonder if Amos knows 3w
Sparklemn @mcctrish I suspect he did. And his nostalgia is for a time not just when Benny was alive but before he knew that Benny cheating him. I hope I‘m wrong! 3w
julieclair This was shocking and sad. I want to believe it‘s not true. On the other hand, it seems like many of the characters have secrets that are being revealed. Maybe Amos and Fanny will have secrets revealed too? 3w
Sargar114 @CoffeeNBooks @julieclair I feel the same way. This was a drop the book moment for sure (not throw @TheBookHippie 😂)…I‘m pretty sure I gasped out loud when I read it. 3w
DebinHawaii I am hoping that somehow either Amos was aware because Benny eventually told him and/or somehow Benny did some kind of investing or had hidden life insurance or something to “put the money back” that will lead to the families having enough to save the hotel somehow. I guess I am hoping that it ends up being a positive somehow but that probably isn‘t realistic. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 it made me sad definitely drop the book. 2w
julieclair @debinhawaii Your “put the money back” idea gives me hope that all will turn out okay! 2w
slategreyskies This shocked me! He doesn‘t seem the type! They were like brothers! 2w
Karisa @vlwelser @CoffeeNBooks I‘m not totally buying yet either. Brian needs better evidence and the source is super suspicious 2w
DanaManiac Ugh I hope there‘s more to this that will be a reasonable explanation. So much betrayal! 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I am hoping there's more to it...a safety net of sorts or that Amos was at least aware. So many things happening in the section, and only one section to go! 😯 2w
mollyrotondo Everyone is giving me hope that the information Howard gave Brian wasn‘t the whole story and there will be some reveal showing Benny put the money back into the hotel. I thought for sure Benny was the bad guy but the group is giving me hope that that story will be cleared up. Uhh Benny! 2w

OMG Aimee came from the pickle man ….

Discuss below …🤯🤯🤯🤯

vlwelser I told you all Louise probably had something extra to tell us. But pickles? Seriously? I officially love this author. 3w
vlwelser It's too early for this. I'm going to catch up with you later.... 3w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I got “glutenized” so figured better post in case my cramping gets worse… trying to figure out what had gluten or traces of it that I ate…but that‘s what I feel like BLECH … 🤢🥴 3w
See All 31 Comments
TheBookHippie @vlwelser yes I love the author and the pickle story!!! 3w
Librarybelle That was hilarious! I loved that twist, and it seems so appropriate in a way for “what happens at the Golden stays at the Golden.” 3w
kspenmoll This story was unexpected & hilarious. This book is such fun! 3w
AmyG This reminded me of the movie…A Walk On the Moon. Diane Lane goes to the Catskills in the ‘60‘s and has an affair with Viggo Mortensen, the shirt guys. He comes to visit different areas to sell shirts. She has an affair with him. 3w
vlwelser @TheBookHippie I hope you feel better. I have the same problem with egg. Return to office has been an adventure. 3w
CoffeeNBooks I didn't see this twist coming at all! There is so much more to Louise's story than I would have imagined at the beginning of the book. 3w
Prairiegirl_reading I didn‘t see that coming at all either. I feel so sorry for Louise, I can‘t imagine having that many miscarriages. No wonder she is the way she is with Aimee. 3w
mcctrish @AmyG I need to find this movie. I must have seen it cuz I love Diane Lane. 3w
Sparklemn The pickle guy storyline humanized Louise for me. Before that, she felt like a caricature of a well-to-do mother who tells her daughter to wear lipstick every time she leaves the house. 😀 3w
julieclair This is the last thing I would have suspected from always-so-put-together Louise! 3w
Sargar114 For me this didn‘t seem surprising (especially given all the secrets we know so far!)…she had given allusions to something to this nature. It actually seems in character to me, knowing her having a successful pregnancy one way - let‘s take control and figure out a way to make it work 3w
DebinHawaii I thought this was a good twist & addition to the secrets that just keep piling up & it definitely gave more depth to Louise. I‘m liking her much more than I did before. 3w
Kdgordon88 I wasn‘t expecting this twist. Louise always presents a perfect face so you wouldn‘t know what secrets might be lurking. 3w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser well 8 hours after severe cramps and 12 after it started I think it‘s passed. Ugh… oh man egg. I live on eggs pretty much . 2w
AmyG @mcctrish it‘s a “hot” movie. Viggo is super handsome. 🤣 2w
AmyG @TheBookHippie I hope the worst is over and you are feeling better.😘 2w
slategreyskies @Sparklemn I felt the same way about Louise. It made her seem relatable to me. Not that I did anything with a pickle man, but you know what I mean. 🤣 2w
vlwelser Glad you're feeling better. The egg thing is bad. They're everywhere. 2w
Karisa Oh my! Every character has something in this book! I love it! Pickle Man—too perfectly ridiculous (oh my, just heard the pun there as I typed it🤦🏻‍♀️! (There really should be a pickle emoji. Wasn‘t there once a pickle emoji?? 🤣 On a separate note: Hope you are feeling better, @thebookhippie 💗) 2w
DanaManiac I didn‘t see this one coming, though I also don‘t find it totally surprising. The posh buttoned up characters always have scandalous secrets 🤣 2w
TheBookHippie @DanaManiac I so agree!!!!! 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I am not surprised but oh how I laughed. Pickle Man jokes abound over here. But, there's a chance it could still be Benny's kid. @AmyG I haven't watched that movie in ages but it is so damn good. I think I have the DVD around here somewhere. 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Karisa I had Jon Lovitz's character from A League of Their Own in my head. "Oh I'm gonna go home, shower & shave, give my wife a little pickle tickle, and then I'll be on my way". ??? 2w
Karisa @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick 🤣🤣🤣 I love that movie! 2w
mollyrotondo This was the biggest secret reveal in the book so far for me. I was honestly shocked that she would sleep with another man, a vendor on property no less, in order to get pregnant. This is why communication in a relationship is so important. If only Benny and Louise talked about the possibility of it being Benny who needed some medical assistance to help them get pregnant maybe Aimee‘s biological father wouldn‘t be a mystery to Louise. 2w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I was WONDERING if it was his ego but back then the possibility of it being the man wasn‘t even thought of. Scientifically it‘s only been the last years that most doctors will even entertain it …patriarchy 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️. 2w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo but yes communication !!!!!! 2w
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie Patriarchy 🙄 for sure. But yes doctors would never think of it either which is also frustrating. But even so communication can go a long way. People were never open about sex and the female and male body functions. I‘m glad I wasn‘t raised to be embarrassed or ashamed about my body and feel more comfortable talking about all the flukey things that go on with it with my boyfriend and even my family. Communication!!! 😆 2w

slategreyskies On one of my trips to NYC, we stopped at this cool pickle shop where they had big barrels of pickles in all different flavors. It‘s been years, but I still remember the spicy pickle that my dad and my brothers all tried, choking and gagging and turning bright red. They wanted me to try it too, but I learned from watching their reactions and turned them down. One of the funniest memories of that trip! Yay for pickles!! 🤣 3w
Leftcoastzen I‘m a big fan of the half sour! 3w

I know we‘re reading this for the #SundayBuddyRead, but I couldn‘t stop at chapter 24. I had to know what happened. No spoilers in this post, just an overall happiness with how the book was written. I liked most of the characters and really enjoyed the alternating viewpoints. This was a fun read!

My first book for #JubilantJuly. I‘m behind on my goals for the #readathon, but that‘s okay. At least I‘m having fun. ✨

Prairiegirl_reading I was running behind and now I‘m at chapter 24 and don‘t want to stop! 3w

He got up without giving porn a passing thought👀

Some of the lines make me laugh right out loud!

Anything strike you this week?
It‘s a lot happening all at once.
Are you enjoying it?

It‘s a good summer read for me.

Anyone you‘re favorite so far?

Personally I hope Aimee abandons Roger ASAP!

AmyG I really think Aimee and Brian become a couple. Do they run the “new” Golden Hotel? I am enjoying reading about the food. I temember going to these hotels and the waiters would bring out dish after dish. All the Jewish food faves but SO much waste. 4w
mcctrish I want Roger to go down!!!! And I am sad about Aimee‘s hair disaster ( that is just another blow for her and makes me mad but I guess will show her resilience) Brian is a bit 😳 I‘m rooting for Zach 4w
DanaManiac Still no favorites, but definitely hoping Roger is fully exposed and that #Bramy (Brian & Amy 🤣) becomes a thing! 4w
See All 21 Comments
TheBookHippie @DanaManiac #BRAMY !!! ♥️♥️♥️🎉🎉🍷🍷 4w
DanaManiac @TheBookHippie 🤣🤣🤣 I couldn‘t help it- some part of me is stuck in the early 2000s lol (edited) 4w
slategreyskies I‘m really enjoying this so far, and after the #Bramy incident, I want to keep reading to find out what happens! 4w
Librarybelle Really liking this so far!! 4w
Karisa I‘m enjoying it too. Hoping for the full happy ending on this one—with the hotel back to glory and romance. Although Aimee/Brian and Zach/Phoebe both becoming couples could be awkward with the family connections 😅 3w
kspenmoll Really enjoying this. 3w
DebinHawaii Enjoying it, the perfect summer read! Not sure where Brian & Amy will go yet but Aimee is probably my favorite, followed by Zach. And yes, let the Roger dumping commence! 3w
CoffeeNBooks Why isn't it next Sunday already?! I just read the entire section for next week's discussion because I couldn't put it down! And now it's sooo hard not to keep reading!! The ending of chapter 24 is 😳! 3w
mollyrotondo 😂 the porn line made me question Brian. But I am very much enjoying this read. I can‘t say I have a favorite character but I just really like the dynamics between all characters and learning about the four OG owners‘ pasts. Can‘t wait to find out what happens with jerko Roger and the future of the hotel. 3w
vlwelser I'm also pro ditching Roger. That porn line was funny. I really like this so far. 3w
julieclair I‘m loving this book so far! I think the author is doing a great job of accurately portraying the differing POVs of each generation. Aimee is my favorite character. And my favorite scene has to be Louise and the Goat Poop! 😂 3w
Sargar114 I‘m really enjoying this as well. I like the balance of perspectives between the different families and generations. I‘m worried that the fire “incident” is foreshadowing for a bigger issue to come with the mention of secondhand extinguishers that were purchased. But we‘ll see. Either way I‘m along for the ride! 3w
Sparklemn I'm really enjoying this book. Zach is my favorite. I always root for the one who is underestimated. And I hope he and Phoebe develop a great working relationship but I'd prefer for Aimee and Brian to have the romantic relationship. The list of improvements made me feel a little out of touch but I'm always on board for a coffee shop. 😋 3w
peanutnine @Karisa I thought the same thing! Both couples getting together feels a little icky 😶😅 3w
peanutnine @Sargar114 definitely curious as to this fire incident - seems like it might be a big plot device for later 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I don't think I have a favorite but I like that Zach seems a bit more thoughtful than the others present him to be. This has a little bit of everything and is easily readable - great for summer! Being in the hotel industry, I probably think a little harder about the technicalities. LOL I chuckled at the reporter's account for the Three A's that sunk the Catskills: AC, Air Travel more affordable, and Assimilation. So now they need one A: Adapt 3w

There is a subtle underlying of grief as well in this story is it driving the decisions of everyone ?

AmyG Absolutely grief. Grief for a bygone era. I find as I get older, Inlook back on certain times in my life-especially the ones that brought me joy. I onow from my in-laws that it‘s hard to give up some things as it means your time is coming to an end. 4w
mcctrish It would be so hard to let go, they need to incorporate some of the things that were tried and true ; sabbath meal, mahjong and work in new fitness trends, environment initiatives, farm to table is perfect. Be a multigenerational resort 4w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish mahjong !!!! Yes. I do love that game ♥️. 4w
See All 18 Comments
DanaManiac @mcctrish Yes, I agree that they need to change a lot in order to be appealing to the whole family. I think grief is a part of change, that‘s why is so hard. 4w
slategreyskies I hadn‘t thought of grief as being so important, but now that you mention it, I am noticing it in the story. There‘s definitely grief. Sometimes I think people grieve not so much for what is as for what could have been or should have been. I don‘t know if I‘m making any sense, but I do see the grief in the story. Maybe the grief will help tie them together instead of push everyone apart. 4w
Librarybelle Grief is definitely a huge theme in this - loss of loved ones, loss of traditions, loss of an era. Nostalgia can be so powerful. 4w
Karisa Reading that made me pause. It hadn‘t occurred to me that discrimination was behind the setting up of these hotels and led it being a Jewish family tradition. When it was pointed out, though I was like Of course! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3w
kspenmoll I can remember when my dad joined a country club for one summer, but the he found out the club would not admit Polish or jews - among the many ethnicities that he worked directly with, & were friends with. So the flight to the Catskills did not surprise me. Grief is a central theme- so much loss: family traditions & culture, loss of generational retreat, loss of family connections, etc. 3w
DebinHawaii It‘s hard to grieve for people & times we can‘t get back. Yes, @Librarybelle nostalgia is so powerful. 🥺 The history behind the Catskills is fascinating—it would be especially hard for the older generations to give up that refuge. 3w
mollyrotondo Definitely sense grief in this book. Amos definitely grieves Benny and all are worried about losing a part of their history. Aimee has to come to terms with a change in her family. 3w
vlwelser I kind of like that they did their own thing. Because racists are the worst. That menu, though. Gross. But I think she means to use it as a contrast. I have faith in this book. 3w
julieclair I totally agree with all that has been said here about the grief, nostalgia and sense of loss. I grew up in northern NJ, not far from the Catskills. When the book mentioned the Red Apple Rest, a place I often visited as a child, I looked online to see if it was still in operation. It made me so sad to see that it was closed and crumbling. Memories have a powerful pull. 3w
Sparklemn @TheBookHippie @mcctrish I've always wanted to play mahjong with real people not just on my laptop! 😁 3w
Sparklemn @Karisa Same here. I just thought they were places where well-off New Yorkers spent their summers. 3w
mcctrish @Sparklemn I should play on my phone, I always think of the scene on Crazy Rich Asians where the moms battle it out ( and I love the click clack of the tiles) 3w
mcctrish @slategreyskies grieving for what could have been, that might even be stronger in this case. 3w
TheBookHippie @Sparklemn oh it‘s so wonderful IRL it‘s just a blast! I played with my grandma and a friend who was from Taiwan. 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Grief for lost love ones, racial struggles, the crumbling family business...it's affecting them all in different ways. I think @mcctrish is right. They have the space to make this generational. Eliminate the lesser used facilities, add some new fun ones, adapt the traditions to current preferences, and perhaps they'll get some younger folks to begin coming back with their families over the years. You can't allow grief to keep you stagnant. 3w

So Phoebe & Zach …

How did you like the list?

Goat yoga?

Hippie dippie I take offence 😅

Do younger people know better sometimes ?

AmyG I think they know better about what their generation likes to do. The Golden either needs to be sold or they need to reinvent themselves if they want to remain in business. 4w
mcctrish I‘m not sure about the goat yoga 🤣🤣 but I think a lot of the list was good. Yoga for sure and paying for activities is good, or a premium price for all inclusive stay or a smaller fee for a sampling 4w
CoffeeNBooks I like Zach and Phoebe's partnership. And I agree, that they know better what their generation likes to do. Just like the Golden Hotel probably originally catered to Amos and Benny's generation, and if it was developed now, it would cater to a younger crowd. 4w
See All 18 Comments
DanaManiac I think their input will be invaluable if the Golden will stay open and still be a family destination. 4w
slategreyskies My first thought when I read goat yoga was of goat poop. I was right! 🤣 so disgusting! 4w
Librarybelle I was impressed with their list, as well as their desire to revitalize the Golden. 4w
Karisa Their list sounds like fun. It felt like it was missing the basics though: the hotel needs safety/facilities updating big time. Must be so expensive… 3w
Karisa @slategreyskies The goat poop scene with Louise was so funny! 🤣🤣🤣🐐🧘‍♀️ 3w
kspenmoll Their list does sound like fun- & yes the poop scene was a riot! @Karisa 3w
DebinHawaii Their list was fun & more fitting for the times to drag the Golden into the future. I do agree with @Karisa that the hotel needs a lot of basics & updates before it gets to that point. 3w
mollyrotondo 😂 so their list. I do think a younger clientele would go for the offerings on their list but I can‘t say I myself would be interested in those offerings 😂 I think Zach and Phoebe‘s input is beneficial though. I just didn‘t like their kiss. I thought it was odd that phoebe would be interested in Zach. But to each his own lol 3w
vlwelser This seems fun. And the goat yoga was funny. I'm hopeful to see where it goes. Idc as long as it's not another Emily Henry style mess. 3w
julieclair @CoffeeNBooks That‘s a good point about the hotel originally being designed to satisfy the tastes of Amos & Benny‘s generation, and it has stayed stuck in that era. And @Karisa I agree that the infrastructure has to come first. No one is going to enjoy their beeswax facial if they come back to a musty smelling room with brown water coming out of the taps! (edited) 3w
Sargar114 @mollyrotondo I found her interest in him odd as well. It makes me worried that it‘s not genuine. Also @Karisa @DebinHawaii agree that their list was more the “fun” side of things versus practical necessities and why it could be a possible surge to help with interest in the hotel, if their aren‘t a some major unsexy changes that improve the business sides of things it won‘t have a chance at survival 3w
Sparklemn @Sargar114 @mollyrotondo Maybe Phoebe was just being flirty with the kiss? She seems the type to keep things casual. 3w
Sparklemn @AmyG 💯 👍 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I don't know if Phoebe is truly interested in Zach, but I think their interest in improving The Golden is a genuine. Some of these changes could be done with minimal initial buy-in, especially if they can charge more for some activities, then slowly renew the bldg. It'd be a start. As a millenial-adjacent Gen-Xer, I can't say all of their suggestions would draw me in, but I actually would sign up for goat yoga, coffeehouse, & a llama petting zoo. 3w
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I‘m thinking friendship for them. 3w

Aimee and Brian the hookup! 🤣

We have our summer hookup!

Think they‘ll end up together ???

AmyG I kind of DO think there is a good chance they wind up together. 4w
CoffeeNBooks @AmyG I think so, too! 4w
mcctrish It killed me to stop reading at this point because I do want to know 4w
See All 17 Comments
DanaManiac I think they could end up together and maybe this could save the hotel?! Annnd the families have been able to smooth over awkward situations before 😬 I‘m going to continue the second I finish these posts- I need answers!! 😂 4w
slategreyskies I really want them to end up together. They seem like they‘d be happy together. 4w
Librarybelle Echoing everyone that I hope Brian and Aimee end up together! 4w
Karisa I was surprised it happened so early. It‘s clear they are the “meant to be” couple. Puts a layer of awkwardness on it all which is fun😅 3w
Karisa @DanaManiac It‘s so hard to put this book down! I‘m binge watching Mrs. Maisel to keep me away from reading it all on one gulp 😂 3w
kspenmoll I too hope She & Brian get together but wondering if they won‘t as it is happening early- or what plot twists are to come? 3w
DebinHawaii I‘m mixed on Aimee & Brian & whether they will end up together. As @kspenmoll said, it happened so early, so I think it could go either way. I do think Peter is going to show up soon too. It‘s got to get more convoluted. 3w
mollyrotondo 😂 I thriving it was odd that Brian brought up his brother‘s love for Aimee lol. A little awkward 😂 but I‘m glad Aimee is emotionally moving on from her jerk husband. Hopefully they end up together but I get everyone saying they hooked up too early and something else could go down to continue twisting that storyline. 3w
vlwelser This was sort of expected. 3w
julieclair @DebinHawaii Oooohhhh, I bet you‘re right that Peter will show up! And maybe Roger will even show up, too? And as for Summer Flings, it sure does seem like there was an awful lot of flinging going on in the Catskills in the 60‘s and 70‘s! 🫢 3w
Sparklemn @DebinHawaii Ooo...good point on Peter. Things are going to get complicated! 3w
Sparklemn The summer fling reminds me of Grease. 🎶 Summer Lovin' 🎶 3w
peanutnine I do really like these two together but definitely agree with everyone that it happened so soon, something is gonna make it more complicated! Not that it isn't already, as Aimee is still married! 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Yes! I'm rooting for these two, though it did happen early on so I'm sure someone will come along to shake things up. Brian seems to care about the hotel and Aimee might be a good partner to get things modernized. Given Roger's legal problems, I don't know if she'll get much money from the divorce, but I hope these two get together and are happy. They have shared history, attraction, & respect. But bringing up your brother? Bruh!? 😂 3w

Fur Elise https://www.classicfm.com/composers/beethoven/fur-elise-meaning-who-is-elise/

CoffeeNBooks I think there's even more going on with Roger than we know. I can't believe he told Zach to convince Aimee that the best thing would be to sell the hotel. So much for Aimee being respectful and not involving the kids in Roger's issue, as Roger clearly can't do the same. 4w
DanaManiac Roger, what a piece of work!! I mean, he knowingly prescribed highly addictive drugs to people in order to make money. Now he‘s been exposed and he‘s making poor judgment calls and involving his children in his effort to get out of the mess he put them in. Other people seem to be just a means to and end for him. 4w

slategreyskies I can‘t stand Roger. I‘ve met too many Rogers in my life and just can‘t stomach them. I don‘t feel sorry for him. I think he deserves to go to jail. I‘m kinda hoping he‘ll end up in jail and the two of them will get divorced. 4w
TheBookHippie @slategreyskies SAME! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 4w
Librarybelle Yes, @CoffeeNBooks ! I think there is way more going on with Roger. What a creep! 4w
Karisa @CoffeeNBooks @Librarybelle Yep, must be more going on with creepy Roger. He‘s in desperate mode and just using her to fix it for him 🤢 3w
kspenmoll Agree with all; Roger is a creep with no morals & no problem with prescribing addictive meds knowingly for $ & lifestyle. 3w
DebinHawaii For everything we know about him (& what we are likely to find out) it‘s the dog disliking him that seals the deal that he is a bad guy. Dogs know who is good & who is not. 🐶 3w
mollyrotondo @DebinHawaii I definitely agree with you about the dog knowing all! 3w
mollyrotondo Roger just gets worse and worse. Aimee must have been blinded by the money as their marriage went on through the years because how could she not pick up on what a jerk he is. Involving your son is so so low. And expecting money from your wife‘s family is also despicable. He‘s extremely selfish. I want him to go to jail too. 3w
julieclair @TheBookHippie Oy vey indeed! Roger is a manipulator who uses people. I wonder if he might be addicted to the Oxy himself? And what an interesting story about Fur Elise/Therese. Does he have unrequited love for some mystery woman? Poor Aimee. 3w
vlwelser Roger is looking like a very bad dude indeed. 3w
Sparklemn @CoffeeNBooks @danamaniac @mollyrotondo @julieclair Seeing Roger manipulate Zach like that made my stomach turn. That is the lowest of the lows. 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Roger is a slime ball. I imagine he started by prescribing oxy to a few people and his criminal drug ring grew from there. If you need a separate phone for your nefarious dealings, there has to be more to it all. Being that he is a doctor, it wouldn't be weird to Aimee for him to have long hours and being “on call“ for emergencies. I can't blame her for not seeing the signs, especially since it sounds like she was preoccupied with childcare. 3w
