panThe plot was slow and convoluted but even worse were the racial slurs and stereotypes. It was like Chandler was working from a checklist of groups of people to say offensive things about - he covered several.
so-soTwists, turns, and a private eye that gets knocked unconscious every fifth chapter, just about. Great dialogue and one liners, but the racist language made me cringe.
pan⭐️⭐️ Farewell, My Lovely was a disappointment. It was racist which was a major turnoff at the very beginning and the story could not recover in my eyes. I‘m not quite sure if Chandler is trying to make a point about LA cops in the ‘40s being corrupt and racist but I couldn‘t like this book because of it. I also think the story is a little too meandering in a non-entertaining way. The Big Sleep was a better story. This was my No. 13 #bookspinbingo
pickdramatization of book, Farewell My Lovely by Raymond Chandler. Philip Marlowe 2nd mystery. setting is California 40s. Moose Malloy is looking for red-haired Velma Valento. Malloy has smashed up the club, broken the manager's neck, and headed out of the door. Marlowe has a hunch that he can find Velma. He just has to hope that curiosity doesn't get him killed. Story full of wisecracks & colorful characters & humor of Chandler. Highly recommended!

We finally had to say goodbye to this guy after about 16 years. He brought so much joy to so many. I‘m feeling bereft today.
It took me a while to get into this one, but the P.I. has personality for days! His internal dialogue is funny and fiesty. Seems almost modern except for all the slang from the 1930s.
These #spines really irritate me because I‘m missing the tagged book!

pickI have been reading Raymond Chandler. The hard-boiled detective is a model I‘ve been studying as one type of detective. Although dated (Chandler wrote in the 1940s), the plot has a bite and sting that make it relevant and reliable. Philip Marlowe is as world weary as he is bone weary and the guy seems to always be in need of a clean suit and a nap. But he gets the job done with witty dialogue and a couple of drinks (more than a couple).
