Really good addition to the series. After so many books, I still love these characters and Gabaldon‘s ability to tell a good story. The narrator is also really great! 🎧

I never know what to say when I have read one of the Outlander series. I am so invested, the stories feel like part of me. I laugh, I cry, this book, like the others, is an emotional journey.

The 4 books I ordered during Prime Days! I got all 4 for $23 (I had a $15 off $30 deal to use during Prime Days and all of these were deals). They came a little banged up but being such a good deal I don‘t want to complain. The V.E. Schwab is a special edition with a built in ribbon bookmark which I love!

Took me forever to read and these books are getting too long. But I think way too much about time travel and the consequences when I read these books. The battle scenes in this one were spectacular. Can‘t wait to wait years for the next one.

It's taken me over a month to read all 1,325+ pages of this hefty tome, but I think that suited the slow pace of the story: exciting stuff doesn't really get going until the final quarter. That doesn't bother me. I'm interested in the domestic details, and enjoyed my extended visit with Claire and Jamie and everyone.

TrishB I read this in quarantine earlier this year- it suited that entirely! 1y

At the #Airport stopped in one of the stores and I always check out the book stand!

It will be awhile before I get to the latest book in the #Outlander series. Only read up through book four.

Karisa Each book is gigantic in that series! Major commitment to start each one🤣 1y
CrowCAH @Karisa I agree! Also, @VioletCavalier and I have read the book and then watched that number season. I‘ve been waiting a year for her to read book four, so we can watch that season together. 1y
mcctrish I think it‘s number 4 I have next to read and have saved that season on the DVR to watch once I finally read it. But I‘ve got a bit sidetracked with other books 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 1y

I just finished Go Tell the 🐝 🐝 🐝 and that means I need to get back to work and get ready for the coming school year. I really hate leaving the ridge. I read some reviews that people were disappointed by this book, I admit I'm not a fan of the battle scenes. I actually get kind of tired of Claire's obsession with medicine. But I'm hooked. I'll probably reread most of it all just before the next book come out.

kspenmoll Here‘s to a wonderful school year! Sorry you have to start back now…I hope you are refreshed! 2y
mandarchy @kspenmoll 😊 thanks! I just need to start prepping. The district is asking me to take on technology after letting go of the tech teacher. 🙄 Professional development starts in a couple of weeks. The first day of school is in September. I need to get ready! 2y

Besides catching up on new picture books, I'm reading the most recent #Outlander installment. I'm 45% through and relishing the time on the Ridge. We've been having heat advisories, so sitting still, drinking lots of fluids suits me. I'm fascinated by the fact that Claire would be my grandma's age, and Brianna is close to my mom's age making me contemporary with the kids and I'm in my 50s.

Book #9 in the series. Now that I‘ve re-read the series I am not as impressed by this one. While I love the story of Jamie & Claire and all of their family & adventures, I felt like a lot of the book was just fluff. No substance or meat for like 75% of it. Also since the series was fresh in my mind, I felt there were a lot of little inconsistencies that really bothered me. I am still looking forward to book 10!

Anyone else in DAR or love looking into their family history? I gave my patriot story this year and he fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain. I‘ve never read a book that mentioned a battle that I know my ancestor fought in. I love this series and am so excited to continue reading this book to see how the battle fits in to Jaime and Claire‘s story

Reading this book felt like a long awaited visit with old friends (plus an opportunity to gaze longingly at my forever book husband, but I digress). An ill-timed library hold forced my hand with this 900-page bohemoth, but once I got back into the rhythm of Fraser's Ridge it somehow still didn't feel long enough. I hope I don't have to wait another 7 years for book 10 😩

And the epic story of Claire and Jamie continues. I'm always a little amazed at how real Gabaldon's characters feel, and not because of the TV series. It feels like reading someone's memoir, with some other perspectives included to give a more complete story. And now we wait for book 10. #22-2022

It‘s been a hectic month but I finally finished this monster of a book.

Claire & Jamie are trying to manage the rising tensions on Fraser‘s Ridge & beyond. Brianna & Roger are finding their feet as they adjust to being back. Ian, with Rachel‘s help, is confronting his past. William is struggling to come to terms with his parentage.

This feels like an in between book before we get to the big action we all know is coming, but in a good way. 4⭐️

Pigpen_Reads What is Roll 100? 2y
MeganAnn @Pigpen_Reads #roll100 is a way to help read your tbr. You make a list of 100 books you want to read (or categories or however you want to list them). Each month @PuddleJumper rolls dice to choose a couple numbers from 1 to 100 and then you read those books from your list. It‘s very low key and anyone can join, anytime. I used all tbr books I already own for my list and try to read two each month. 2y

I'm finally finished! After years of entering Goodreads Giveaways I finally won something. I started reading this series right after TV show began. So this was a first time I was able to read as soon as book was published. But when my free copy of Bees arrived, I was hesitant to start reading.

So why did I wait 2 months to start reading? When I'm attached to these characters and I want to know what happens to them? ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig Because Diana Gabaldon has a habit of using rape as plot point. And I was afraid she would return to it again. (Don't @ me with the 'It's historically accurate. Or it was a violent time.' This is a fantasy series featuring Time Travel. Reality when through the stones at Craigh nu Dun.) Fortunately a friend let me know that this wasn't the case. Once I knew that, I picked up Bees expecting not to be able to put it down. But that didn't happen. ⬇️ 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig Yes it's nice to see Jamie and Claire happy but it's just everyday life on Frazer's Ridge, building houses and slaughtering hogs until page 218.

William and Lord John's story line was much more interesting. As was the Murray Family Road Trip. Jenny Murray has my favorite line of the book: "Or I'd be askin' him how to say, 'Clear off, ye brazen-faced trollop," in Mohawk."⬇️
2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig For such a long awaited book, it took awhile to hold my attention. Every time I set it down because a Library Hold came in or I needed to finish a Book Club read, it would take me days to pick back up, because nothing much was happening. Most of the action/plot is in the last third of the book. Once it gets going, it's REALLY good! And then Cliffhanger. ⬇️
2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig Now we have to wait 10 years for Lord John Grey to be rescued. 😒 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig If Book 10 is to be the last, there is lot of loose ends to tie up. That Book may be 1000 pages long. 2y

Probably last read by the fire of the Season. But not to jinx it I'm not going to clean up the ash for a few days.

Hopefully I'll finish this over the weekend. I'm on Page 704.

My favorite part is Ian's roadtrip with all the women. "Or I'd be askin' him how to say, 'Clear off, ye brazen-faced trollop," in Mohawk."- Jenny Murray ?

I may have overcommitted myself on buddy reads this month, but they are all titles I have really been wanting to read so we‘ll see how this goes. Filled in with some other categories for mood reading.

#roll100 choices! Since I had so many TBR books on my shelves I doubled up giving me two choices for each number. I can choose the one that most appeals to me, or read all four if time allows.

Roll 1: From Twinkle with Love / Truthwitch
Roll 2: The Love Interest / Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone

I‘m going for the new Outlander, but it‘s very long so we‘ll see. Then I‘ll probably pick From Twinkle with Love as I know it will be short & sweet.

PuddleJumper Looks like a fun bunch of books! 2y

Using the Snow Days to make a start. Won a copy on Goodreads and received it around December 1st. Didn't start reading immediately because December is my Holiday Romance month. While I'm excited to read, I'm also a little bit hesitant. Here's why.

I love these characters. Not only Jamie & Claire but the younger generation as well. My problem with these books is the continued return to Sexual Assult as a plot device. 👇

Crinoline_Laphroaig 8 Books in the Series and it's not who in this family but who hasn't been a victim. Diana Gabaldon and many in the Fandom justify this with 'It's realistic. It was a violent time'. But it's a story about a woman who Time Travels by touching a stone and falls back in time 200 years. Reality went through the Stones at Craigh na Dun. 👇
2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig Which brings me back to Go Tell The Bees. I was glad to win a copy because if DG decides to return to Rape as a Plot Point, again, I'm debating on donating my books next time someone wants to read. (My Outlander mug was a present when a friend who borrowed all my books returned them.) They're big ass books, heavy to hold, and it would free up a lot of shelf space. I could get them on Kindle but I have invested a lot of $$$ in hardbacks. 👇
2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig All that being said, no matter what happens in Bees/Book 9, I'm still going to read Book 10 when it comes out because it's supposedly the last and I'm attached to these Characters. 🐝📖🤓 2y
See All 13 Comments
DGRachel I‘ve been trying for more than a decade to get through book 4 and I hear you on her sexual assault fetish. 🤢 2y
Nessavamusic If you want to know I‘ll put it in spoiler comment 👇 2y
Nessavamusic There is no assault in the book, but it does reference back the Claire‘s assault when she was kidnapped briefly. 2y
CarolynM This is why I didn't continue reading the series after the first book. I was really uncomfortable with the way she handled the assault on Jamie, it almost felt like she was enjoying it. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Nessavamusic thank you! That's good to know. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @DGRachel is my least favorite. It's like 800 pages and much of the story could have been handled with a 5 min conversation between 3 Characters. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CarolynM I had known of Outlander series for awhile but had never got around to reading. After watching the first Episode of TV show, I bought Book 1 the next day. I was enjoying adventures of Jamie and Claire and then I got to Wentworth Prison. I literally put the book down for about 3 days. Ultimately I had fallen in love with the Characters and wanted to know if they were okay. So I finished reading, was hooked and read entire Series.
2y
GingerAntics That‘s what has made me give up on this series (the tv show - I have other reasons to give up on the books). Why is sexual assault a plot device SO many times? What is her obsession with it? I just can‘t abide her constant, casual use of something that is so traumatic for so many of us. It‘s not a plot device. It‘s a tragedy and a crime. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @GingerAntics I find those parts of the story upsetting and I've never experienced. I can't imagined what someone who has, feels. That's why I never recommend them. 2y
GingerAntics @Crinoline_Laphroaig Black Jack worked for me. The character of the man was just like that. It was upsetting, but okay. I know some survivors that said it felt very accurate to that type of person. I certainly felt that way. Every time after that, though? Why? Wentworth was bad enough. It‘s like she‘s obsessed with it. Every book, someone is getting sexually assaulted. Even the thing with the King in France. Eh. 2y

I have not enjoyed any of the books in this series as much as the first. The characters and storylines have grown exponentially, yet I only really care about Claire and Jamie. And how little of WIMOHB I remembered!
Which is not to say I did not enjoy this (or find myself reading into the night), but I do miss young Jamie and the sexual tension of the earlier books. William might be a substitute, but I really dislike Amaranthus.

At this point, if you made it to book nine of the Outlander series, you know that the majority of this series is different people talking to each other with just a little action sprinkled in to keep you interested.

GTtBTIAG is the same but even more noticeable and tedious than the eight books before it.
