Not for me, at all.
I found this so boring and cringey. Both main characters were so irritating. I ended up skim reading parts of it.
I seem to have had a bad run with books recently. 😔

I enjoyed this debut! Not without its imperfections, and there was less spice than I anticipated given one of the MCs is a literal porn star, but I really liked the "female empowerment and sexual education in the adult entertainment industry" angle, as opposed to the "male gaze" BS it is in reality. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I‘m not generally a prude about spicy books, but this one had me so frustrated like PLEASE guys solve some of your serious employment and emotional problems, just for a min, on the side of all the spice. I liked the male MC but found the woman very ‘not like other girls‘ and for someone who kept mentioning how many degrees she had, I‘d have liked some smarter decision making and emotional awareness.
You know that thing where you put a book on hold at the library, then it comes in months later and you don‘t remember why you wanted to read it or have a clue what it‘s about, but you start, thinking ‘oh this is a cute romcom & isn‘t it funny she‘s got a surprise man roommate‘ & then BAM she finds out her funny, endearing, cute surprise roommate is a famous porn star? This book has that thing!😂
Spicy, surprisingly feminist, & funny.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love it. I love it. I love Josh. I love how much he loves Clara. I just love it all. I wanna read it again already
"The scary things, the ones you spend the most time and energy talking yourself out of, are the ones that make life worth living."
Ok so the summary had me expecting a roommates/FWB trope but this is actually much more straightforward roommates-to-lovers than that, to my disappointment. THAT SAID, once I got over myself I thoroughly enjoyed this! The plot was smart & really cute. Clara was a relatable af heroine & Josh was super sweet. A hot, adorable book about the joys of love & sex positivity. ★★★½
A play-by-the-rules East Coast socialite moves across the country on the whim of her childhood crush only to get hooked on a bait and switch—with a new roommate who just happens to be a famous adult performer. Porn and personal growth ensue! The Roommate is a quick, fun, and feminist read.
P.S. It did bother the heck out of me that the cover doesn‘t match the physical descriptions of the main characters.
One of six books I‘m currently reading (I went a little overboard this month), and I didn‘t expect it to be so funny! I‘ve been laughing out loud and I love that. For some reason, I picture Josh as Nico Tortella from Younger… and I only JUST remembered that Nico‘s character on that show is also named Josh. Now I feel a bit silly 😆
(This one‘s also smutty, which I feel it‘s only fair to tell you in case that is/isn‘t your thing.)
Rosie Danan where have you been hiding?!?
This was fantastic! the sheer back and forth of the dialogue got me the minute that Clara and Josh met! That first meet-cute that developed into friends into more, read as a natural progression of strangers to friends, to crushing and oh man you had me. You had me!

Happy Friday, Littens!
Starting this one from yesterday's library haul. (Ngl, Josh sounds hella cute.)
I loved this one so much! An unlikely romance that was super fun to read. I only had two hour left starting on 6/1, so I‘m only counting those two for #littenlisten plus it‘s a pink cover for some bonus points!
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Fun, steamy, and sex positive. Not everything completely worked for me, but I still think it‘s worth a read/listen if you like out-of-the-box romances! 🎧
can't explain why I feel the sudden urge to read this but I do so
Another romance that I enjoyed. Pretty steamy but it‘s a great sex positive book with some discussion about sex workers which is important. Throw in some funny and sweet moments and I‘m hooked!
#bookspinbingo that bingo is so close!
Great book to listen to on your headphones: they talk abt pussy a loooot. This was cute, sex positive, light, and super easy to like.
I really enjoyed this - although I think I prefer the Intimacy Experiement. But can see that if you read this first, you would think that the new one wasn‘t steamy enough. This is a fun forced proximity romance with a naive east coast trust fund baby and an adult film star who end up looking to change the world in their way.
Next romance read after the success of the Intimacy Experiment. However: the heroine on the UK cover is too tall for the description in the book...
A romance between a sheltered society girl who moves from the East Coast to LA, and the roommate she finds there who happens to be a porn star. The whole plot was a little over the top but I really enjoyed the whole thing.
If I have to fall in love with another character named Josh, this is gonna get awkward. 🤣🤣
3.5⭐ rounded up. Opposites attract trope, open door romance. I enjoyed their dialog but wish they found the physical much later in the book to break the stereotypes and set this storyline apart from the pack.
“Change always comes with a closing cost.... But it‘s still worth trying. Not because the odds are particularly good, mind you, but considering the alternative. There‘s value in the struggle. Value in touching the raw and bloody parts of our souls, opening them up to the sunlight, and hoping they heal.”
What do you get when you combine a straight laced, overachieving socialite with a laid back, fun loving porn star? A romantic comedy like no other. Not usually my style, but it was a great escape, had surprising emotional depth and was super steamy. Great fun!
Romance novel about a woman who finds herself living with a porn star. Full of fun tropes.
Was I up way too late last night reading this?
Yes, yes I was.
This premise! 😅🔥 who else has read?
Didn‘t read the synopsis or anything, just heard it was good. I didn‘t expect the hero‘s profession nor the project they undertook and loved every minute.
I may have caved and gotten an app to watch the Hallmark Christmas movies on this year. I may have also started listening to Christmas music. More specifically Leslie Odom Jr‘s new song Snow. It is absolutely delightful and charming and he can sing to me all day.
So glad I gave this one a shot! It‘s the perfect light read to get out of a reading slump (like I was this month). Very predictable but still fun 😄
Clara is a good girl, but she has a problem. She‘s been infatuated with the same guy forever. So when he suggests she be his roommate a la Felicity following Ben, she jumps. He bails and she gets a different roomie who is also a well known porn star. Things get steamy, but the characters are likable. If books with covers that do a bait and switch bother you, I‘d avoid this. But if you‘re down with a well done romcom with heat, I‘d give it a try.
I‘m going to be totally honest and say I‘m totally in love with the cover of this book. Let‘s see if the inside is just as good!
Taking a break from cataloging some graphic novels to start this book. #currentlyreading #romantsy
I liked it! I appreciate that Josh and Clara developed a believable friendship before they became lovers. As a result, I found their falling in love to be believable. Only one critique and it's a small one. According to PopSugar, it's "one of the steamiest romances of the year". Naw, not really. I totally disagree. Still a great debut though. ?
Cataloged this yesterday and bringing it home today. Description is intriguing. Clara moves cross country and surprise new roommate is a porn star. #libraryhaul #romantsy
This was a fun and steamy romance with a great sex-positive message. However, while the characters did have good chemistry together, a lot of the plot conflicts get resolved way too quickly and easily (won't say specifics for spoiler reasons) and not everything in Josh and Clara's backstories made sense to me logically. But it's pretty easy to push those things aside and just enjoy this very open-door and surprisingly sweet romance for what it is.
