The Hand on the Wall
The Hand on the Wall | Maureen Johnson
New York Times bestselling author Maureen Johnson delivers the witty and pulse-pounding conclusion to the Truly Devious series as Stevie Bell solves the mystery that has haunted Ellingham Academy for over 75 years. Ellingham Academy must be cursed. Three people are now dead. One, a victim of either a prank gone wrong or a murder. Another, dead by misadventure. And now, an accident in Burlington has claimed another life. All three in the wrong place at the wrong time. All at the exact moment of Stevies greatest triumph . . . She knows who Truly Devious is. Shes solved it. The greatest case of the century. At least, she thinks she has. With this latest tragedy, its hard to concentrate on the past. Not only has someone died in town, but David disappeared of his own free will and is up to something. Stevie is sure that somehowsomehowall these things connect. The three deaths in the present. The deaths in the past. The missing Alice Ellingham and the missing David Eastman. Somewhere in this place of riddles and puzzles there must be answers. Then another accident occurs as a massive storm heads toward Vermont. This is too much for the parents and administrators. Ellingham Academy is evacuated. Obviously, its time for Stevie to do something stupid. Its time to stay on the mountain and face the stormand a murderer. In the tantalizing finale to the Truly Devious trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Maureen Johnson expertly tangles her dual narrative threads and ignites an explosive end for all whove walked through Ellingham Academy. Praise for the Truly Devious series: Readers, hang tight: theres one more round to come, and if the signs are right, itll be to die for." Publishers Weekly (starred review) The Agatha Christie-like ecosystem pairs with lacerating contemporary wit, and alternating past and present scenes makes for a multilayered, modern detective story. New York Times Book Review Remember the first time reading Harry Potter and knowing it was special? Theres that same sense of magic in the introduction of teen Sherlock-in-training Stevie Bell. Sorry I haven‘t been a #faithful poster lately. Everything‘s fine-just got distracted by this and that.

Anyway, this was a fun book and a great conclusion to the series. Now is a good time to read the whole series without having to wait months for the next book!

MallenNC I just finished this one too! I wish I had waited to read them all together once the series was finished bc I was impatient. 4d

This was a good ending to this YA mystery series. I had a little trouble remembering what had happened in the previous novels but I‘ve I caught on the story flowed well. Maureen Johnson is a clever writer.

The final book in the Truly Devious trilogy. I loved the banter between the characters while they worked to solve two mysteries. Hopefully this isn‘t the last we hear from Stevie Bell and her friends. Book 25/100 #yarnandbooks

I enjoyed this mystery trilogy, but I don't think it needed to be a trilogy. There were some plot holes and some things that weren't explained, but it was a fun story.

Amazing conclusion to the Truly Devious series! It starts with an old kidnapping case from the 1930‘s and ends in a present day murder case. The Ellingham‘s seemed to have it all until Wife Alice and daughter Alice are kidnapped. Iris‘ body is found but where is Alice? Who would do such a thing? What does this have to do with high school students Dying at Ellingham Academy? Read to find out! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Slajaunie @thevictoriousone I finished it!!! Let the discussions begin. (edited) 1w

y'all do not even comprehend how relieved I am that this didn't suck. I've been let down so many times by series wrap ups but this was so satisfying to me! SO DAMN SATISFYING! This is easily one of my fav series ever.

BookDragonNotWorm I agree completely!!! One of those series that tics Every. Single. Box. I want more! 😭 2w
thevictoriousone I literally read this book cover to cover in a few hours. Just devoured it. Loved every bit. Maureen has said she‘s working on something else about Stevie Bell too! 1w

“Stevie‘s other big interest, outside of crime, was disaster, so she had see Titanic many times. It was clear to her that there was plenty of room on that door for two people. Jack was murdered.”

The Truly Devious series is soooo fun! A mystery from the past combines with a mystery in the present and a delightful little red herring. If you haven‘t read these, you‘re very lucky because you can binge read the entire series. You should also read Maureen Johnson‘s tweets ‘cause she‘s a hoot.

The obsession is over! I can finally get back to my other reading.

But I'm having a hard time wanting to. The characters and world Johnson created completely engulfed me. I want to go back!!!

I would highly recommend this series if you love mystery and/or YA. If you get it from the library, put them all on hold before you start! If you're anything like me, the cliff hangers will drive you to buying before the holds come in. 😝

BookDragonNotWorm I had to preorder this one last year which I never do! 3w

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stevie Bell does it again and is a step closer to solving the case of a century.
The Hand on the Wall was as good as Truly Devious and better than the Vanishing Stair. There is a ton of suspense, humor, and twists peppered throughout the book. The ending is satisfying and wonderful. Do not miss out on this ending.

I love this trilogy so much!!! The third installment has the same great blend of humor and drama as the previous two books. The twists and turns in the story are surprising, and the mystery is so clever. It was an incredibly satisfying conclusion.

Litsi Can I get away with just reading the third one? 3w
annkuch13 @Litsi Not really with this series. It's a pretty complex puzzle type mystery spread over all three books. 3w

The trilogy is over 😭 A satisfying conclusion to a great series! Suspenseful, craftily plotted and insanely well thought out. On the plus side, the blister on my fingertip (from turning pages so fast) will get to heal. But . . . I'm going to miss my fictional book friends.
