pickI Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Made Her Mark by Debbie Levy (nonfiction, published 2016) tells the story of one of the only women to serve as a supreme court justice. Ruth grew up facing many challenges from being a woman to being Jewish and not wanting to fit into her stereotypical role. This book explains what was stacked against her but then it shows how she would dissent and not let these things hold her back. It is very empowering.

I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot about Ginsburg. I would read this to my class to insure them to always follow their dreams no matter what society thinks. It is really cool that she is one of two EVER female Supreme Court Justices.

pickPublished in 2016, this children's biography is great to carry in the classroom! This book discusses inequality and discrimination that RGB has faced over her lifetime. RGB was able to and still does defy all that people tell her that she is incapable of doing.

Appropriate for kids reading on their own and adults who enjoy a good illustrated edition. Modern chalk lettering can be a little difficult but overall a very good tribute. The additional info in the back and further suggested reading are also extremely valuable. Definitely a pick & highly recommended!!

My first born turns 6 in a few days. We always gift at least one book. It's never to early to start these lessons.
pickAnother great children's book about a strong, motivated woman. This book also teaches kids that strict gender roles and stereotypes not only hurt women, but they can be harmful for men as well. I think this book will inspire kids to want to help others and to be themselves, no matter what gender they are.

The theme of dissenting and resisting against limitations thrown in one's path is appealing to all ages and even includes little flashes of humor. Hand this one to a kiddo looking to write a report about an influential woman (or do like me and pick it up for yourself!). Loved it. #feminist #biography #juvenile
pickBold and brazen, determined and decided. This book is superb. Everything in it is strong and effective, from the art, to the text, to the events chosen to capture RBG's life. I read this with my 8-year old, and she loved it as much as I did. It made her ask questions about why things had been the way they were, and what things still need to be changed. I want this one in my personal collection. Maybe I'll share with my kids. :)
