I was obsessed with this book as a kid, and I remember reading it multiple times.
The main characters discover a secret world #underground where the people speak their own language.

This is so true for me! What was your favorite book as a child? My have to be The Velveteen Rabbit and Love You Forever by Robert Munsch and Charlotte's web by E B White.

Scochrane26 My faves were Anne of green gables, Harriet the spy, & the best Christmas pageant ever. I love charlotte‘s web, too, re-read it a couple of yrs ago. (edited) 1d
TheAromaofBooks Too many to even list!! I did have an especial soft spot for stories where people went out and lived off the land in the wilderness. :-D 1d

I‘m listening to this as an audio book whilst in the car with my daughter. I‘ve read it when I was a kid, but either I forgot how funny and warm it is or perhaps the nuances are clearer with age... Anyway, a great summer read with your kids. #seacrowisland #childhoodclassics #holidays #summer #raisingreaders

julesG Strange that some books speak differently to us once we're grown up. 2d
julesG Beautiful picture, btw 2d
Emu Yes, it is funny. I remember that I liked the book, but more because of the stories of friendship and adventure. 2d
Emu It is taken just on the border of Italy and Austria - fantastic views all around 😀 2d

Book #51: Winnie-the-Pooh is one of those stories that had pervaded my childhood. From the movies to the cartoon series, I was (and still am) absolutely in love with Pooh Bear, despite never having read the books. And I am sure that the reason this is on the BBC 100 Greatest Books (which is basically a popularity vote on books) is because of the...

Blerg. I get what this is trying to do, and I‘m trying to keep in mind that it was published in 2000, so I‘m waffling between 2 and 3 stars. It‘s an alphabet book, with LGBT representation. Mentions of “my moms” and “our daddies” are great. But then the illustrations are weird and cartoony and there‘s a little blonde girl wearing a stereotypical “Indian” costume. Let‘s just do better.

#BBRC #A2Z wrap up! I read 54 picture books; it was hard to stop at just one for most letters! Tagged a favorite, but almost everything was a solid 👍read.

I love the growing diversity in picture books. Characters included LGBT, Muslim, deaf, PoC, immigrants, Jewish, blended families, strong female characters, and more! Topics include: white privilege, poverty, segregation, the immigrant experience, and inclusive fairy tale retellings. 💜
