October
October: The Second Decade, 1986-1996 | Rosalind E. Krauss
9 posts | 1 to read
October: The Second Decade collects examples of the innovative critical and theoretical work for which the journal October is known. A journal anthology draws a collective portrait; together, the gathered texts demonstrate the journal's ambitions and strengths. From the outset, October's aim has been to consider a range of cultural practices and to assess their place at a particular historical juncture. That task has now taken on an intensified urgency. The catastrophic state of our urban economies and the attendant social crises, as well as the more general predicaments of a postcolonial era, have had an inescapable impact on the cultural and discursive practices that are October's concern. Hence, October in its second decade has had an intensified concern with the role of cultural production within the public sphere and a sharper focus on the intersections of cultural practices with institutional structures. The topics of inquiry include body politics and psychoanalysis, spectacle and institutional critique, art practice and art history, and postcolonial discourse. Contributors: Carol Armstrong, Leo Bersani, Homi Bhabha, Yve-Alain Bois, Mikkel Borch-Jacobsen, Benjamin H. D. Buchloh, Susan Buck-Morss, Lygia Clark, T. J. Clark, Jonathan Crary, Gilles Deleuze, Manthia Diawara, Peter Eisenman, Hal Foster, Group Material, Denis Hollier, Alexander Kluge, Gertrud Koch, Silvia Kolbowski, Rosalind Krauss, Annette Michelson, Helen Molesworth, V. Many of the side effects/complications from my husband‘s transplant in April are resolving and we got released from the Hutch as of 10/1. So I got some of my reading mojo back, and read more this month than any other this year. Some v. good books too, and geographically diverse with authors from Taiwan, Italy, France, Japan, Sweden, Australia, Canada, England, Scotland and the US. My faves: #TheUnpassing; #HappyAreTheHappy; #Newcomer

wanderinglynn I‘m so happy to hear things are going better. 💚 4y

3 Rosemary‘s Baby (always), Us, Halloween
4 Jar Of Fears, and the A-Z game

kamoorephoto Okay, the movie for Bird Box wasn‘t bad but what‘s up with SO many people not knowing it was a book? 🤨 Looking forward to reading 4y

Sitting at a western/horse store while the girls shop. Not the most exciting way to spend a Saturday afternoon, but they're in their element. September was one long funk to me. Work is improving and the girls are out of whatever hormonal fog they were in, so I'm hoping October brings better days. Even if I don't feel much like reading, feeling better would be such a big relief.

Leelee.reads I have two teen girls. I often have to remind myself, "This too shall pass." Hang in there! It's a roller coaster ride for sure! ?❤️ 7y
LitHousewife @Leelee.reads It sure is! 7y
Gulfsidemusing Life with teen girls is a challenge for sure... lots of patience and a little wine sure helps. Mine are all in 20s now, and I'd never have the stamina to do it all again but as @Leelee.reads says, this too shall pass. Good luck! 7y

LibrarianJen But look at those boots! ❤️❤️❤️ I might not be a teenager anymore but I still get overly excited over boots! 7y
LitHousewife @Lakesidemusing @Leelee.reads All the other phases have passed. I just need a little more patience. 7y
LitHousewife @LibrarianJen You need to come and shop with them. Boots do nothing for me. 😀 7y
