In the year 1912, nineteen-year-old Christy Huddleston leaves home to teach school in the Smoky Mountains -- and comes to know and love the resilient people of the region, with their fierce pride, their dark superstitions, their terrible poverty, and their yearning for beauty and truth. But her faith will be severely challenged by trial and tragedy, by the needs and unique strengths of two remarkable young men, and by a heart torn between true love and unwavering devotion. And don't miss another heart-soaring bestseller from Catherine Marshall: Julie

've read the tagged book a about a couple of times or more. Recently dug it out of where I kept it while looking for something recently and now this morning I read a few lines and I'm getting hooked again. Since I don't like reading two novels at a time, maybe it will be my next read after White Teeth.

I didn‘t expect to like this book based on the description, but it was beautiful. I‘m an atheist and found the religion to be a lovely testament to one person‘s faith. Definitely read for a deep, personal story.

#fridayfrigesday @SpeculativeFemale

1️⃣ Books rarely make me cry. This is the first one that I can recall starting actual tears.
2️⃣ Both but way more likely to wear plaid.
3️⃣ Neither unless it‘s poutine in which case sort of both (not really). But I rarely have poutine.
4️⃣ Pop of course. I think the extremely Canadian response to 3 should make that clear.

Melissa_J God, I love poutine. 6y
SpeculativeFemale LOL, as a western Pennsylvania girl, I'm with the Canadians on the pop issue! 6y

I'm a day late but the prompt stuck with me. I generally don't like long books (and that was one of the reasons I thought I didn't like fantasy, all the "epic" world-building. ?) That said, I have such fond memories of reading Christy. I remember it was one of the first books I got from the adult fiction section at the library. I was so proud when I not only finished this tome but enjoyed it. I felt instantly matured. #FunFridayPhoto on Saturday.

Christy2318 I loved that story. 7y
Bookzombie I cannot remember if I actually read this one or just saw the show. I know I read Julie. 7y
BeckyD I loved it too. 7y
MarriedtoMrT @Bookzombie I read Julie, too, a little later in life (teen me instead of tween me 😉) and remember liking it a lot. Christy holds a special place in my heart but I think I'd be more likely to re-read Julie. 7y
MarriedtoMrT @Christy2318 @Bd200889 It's a bit of a classic. I think we're due for a TV re-make. 7y

An intriguing story of love and faith set in the Great Smokies. One of my all-time favorites.
