A Week in December

I bought A Week in #December for its cover. In 2010 I visited London and ads for this book were in all the tube stations so I was persuaded to buy it. I love this view of St. Paul‘s.

MsMelissa I need to know what you didn‘t like about it. I get the sense we look for the same things out of what we read, so if you don‘t enjoy a book I‘m unlikely to enjoy it either. 3y

TrishB @Book_Fiend_Melissa overall it just didn‘t engage me, characters were awful in the main and generally I just thought it was boring ☹️ wouldn‘t recommend and I like the author! (edited) 3y

Caroline2 😆 buddy reads are a funny one aren‘t they. Sometimes they‘re great to push you to read a book you‘ve had on your shelf a while, other times I think it can encourage a bail cause you‘re reading something you‘re not really in the mood for. 🤔 3y

So glad that‘s done with.... I never bail on books but I was so close on this one, perhaps the least enjoyable book I‘ve read all year 😒

@TrishB you already bailed on the buddy read, how about you @Cathythoughts ?! Are you both ready for me to spill the beans on the ending and how all the loose ends were tied up? Hint - they weren‘t!

squirrelbrain So.... we didn‘t find out if Veals‘ deal happened, Hassan didn‘t bomb anything, Finn Veals has a bad drug episode but we don‘t know if he recovered... the only ‘tied up‘ threads were the tube driver and the barrister getting together. (But we don‘t know how the court case turned out!) Totally pointless characters / plot lines; the footballer, the teacher, the reality TV programme, Tranter the reviewer....@TrishB @Cathythoughts 5y

Well, @TrishB and @Cathythoughts I‘m not hugely enjoying this book at the moment.... (I‘ve just got to the end of Chapter / Day 3). The amount of hedge fund waffle is draining (and I‘m an accountant!) and is it all heavily weighted too much towards Veals?
I find some of the other characters much more interesting than him and his ‘deals‘.....

Cathythoughts The hedge fund stuff is boring ( I have no idea what‘s going on ) but so far I‘m very interested in the other characters.... 👍🏻♥️🤞🏻 5y

TrishB I‘m glad you‘ve said that - I didn‘t want to say but I hated it!! I can get it off my chest now .....I didn‘t finish...got to 50% but wanted you both to be able to form an opinion without me saying anything. 5y

This is a week in December with my best little pet , Jack ... he‘s had a traumatic day... long story.. it wasn‘t his fault ... so we are getting warm & cosy , I love this little guy .. he is so good 👍🏻♥️
