A fast paced fairy tale gone wrong. I enjoyed the fresh take. I would have liked more character development and some more history of Sophia, Constance, Amina and Manford. I think the added detail would have increased my empathy for both hero and villain because the villains were horrible but somewhat quite interesting. I love the focus of fighting for people and equality and that nothing should stop us. It is the message. Raise your voice.

It's a YA fantasy, set in a dystopian world where the Cinderella story is gospel and law, and our heroine sets out to put an end to that nonsense.

I like the idea, so was disappointed to find that it didn't work for me. But you know, I'm really not the target audience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this book! I loved how Bayron addresses the problematic themes of the classic fairy tale. She made me think. I also loved how she to took classic details from the story and put a spin on them. I think she did a great job balancing the story with a YA love story and teaching a lesson which is very common in YA fantasy. I really loved it and can‘t wait for her next book coming out in June. This was my #bookspinbingo No. 10 pick

Almost bailed on this one. I really should just avoid all YA and skip out of book club when the book is YA. better than some other YA I've read, but still not my reading preference

Man, this book had so much potential!! Sigh. The world building felt really heavy-handed — everything was dialed up to a ten so you kind of got desensitized to the dystopian parts. 2nd, the plot was super predictable — I guessed 90% of the twists & then had to wait for the MCs to catch up. Finally, the characters were fun in the beginning but then the romance got veeeerrry eye-roll-y. Sadly, a miss for the me. ★★☆☆☆.

I loved everything about this book. I went in hesitant this would be a good one for me and I'm so glad I gave it a chance. This author will definitely be a must read for me. She did an awesome job adapting a common fairy tale in a unique way and showing how stories can affect our lives. I only wish I had books like this when I was a teen. #mustread #highlyrecommend

A wonderful LGBTQ YA novel that turns the Cinderella fairytale on its head. A rebellious female teen, with help from a female descendant of Cinderella‘s maligned step sister, is determined to uncover the truth about Cinderella and Prince Charming and, in so doing, hatch a plan to overturn the abusive patriarchal system the inhabitants of Mervailles have been living under for 200 years since Cinderella‘s untimely death. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

First impressions... Zombie? Sequel? Neither is true!

It's 200 years after the fabled ball. Cinderella has married her Prince Charming and the land has made her story legend. But Sophia knows something is wrong. She doesn't understand why women are so restricted - no money of their own, modesty regulations, and when she witnesses women being abused by their male family members, she knows she can't let the king remain on the throne. 1/365

I‘ve said it before, but I really wish there had been books like this when I was younger. I love reading stories with strong young women speak up for themselves and fight for what they want. Tying this in with the Cinderella story is another cool element.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you are a YA lover and want a good read that will be hard to put down then give this book a shot. It is sooooo good! I loved that it didn't have the traditional love story but so much more. Feminism at its finest, we are more than marriage and getting told what we should do!

Pictured are my 2 favorite moments from this one. I picked this up on a whim and didn't expect to really like it, but its a favorite of the year! I thought the fairytale as folklore worked really well. The feminist discussion surrounding women's autonomy was good without feeling heavy-handed. And a lovely queer storyline and romance

This started out kind of slow for me—in that it felt very cliched and the haste felt artificial—but started to pick up about a third of the way in. It was a lot of fun! I loved the idea of Cinderella being real in this world, and the villains were fantastic. I also enjoyed the romance (always points for being queer) and the diverse society. I really appreciated that they acknowledged that the system doesn‘t change just because the leader is dead.

I‘m very intrigued by the world, but… I feel like this is becoming a YA fantasy trope: the protagonist is late for an important appointment, so she dawdles, reading important worldbuilding information, and takes the long route, having important worldbuilding conversations with her friends. There‘s a sense of urgency, but the protagonist shows absolutely no inclination to act urgently, so it just stresses me out!

I really liked this book! Set in the world of Cinderella, Sophia lives 200 years after Cinderella‘s death. But the story that her entire society is based on is not what it seems. I read a Goodreads review that describes it as “Repunzel and Merida team up to take down the patriarchy and fall in love along the way” and I have never heard anything more accurate! 4/5 stars from me.

Absolutely stunning!! My new favourite book; I enjoyed it from chapter one until the very end, and was shocked by every twist and turn, with nothing being predictable. The romance of Sophia and Constance is also beautiful, and was a necessary strand to this story. I loved every page of Cinderella Is Dead, and think this author is truly gifted with writing talent!

That was incredible!! Every detail was thought out so well in the course of Cinderella‘s story and how it worked with this new side of it. It was really refreshing to get the feeling that the girls make their own decisions. I was expecting a mix of what the classic story tells to stay “true”, but everything got twisted around; while still making complete sense! I love Sophia‘s growth; speaking out against the king to making a difference #lgbtq

... her corpse.” I was not expecting this turn! The fairy godmother is nothing but a witch. A witch who says she‘s done both good and bad. (Most bad, it seems) Set up Charming to become king, set up Cinderella to kill him, set up a love potion for Charming to use on her, and then left it all to that. Now they‘re preparing a necropsy spell to find out what Cinderella was killed for trying to share

The entire story of Cinderella is being retold. Completely and utterly. It is less about Cinderella herself, but the stepsisters - not evil - and how the prince came and forced himself on as king. How he “fixed” the broken and poor country. How he stole away Cinderella at his first annual ball.

Fairytale retelling of Cinderella. This story is about a century after the fabled truth of that night at the ball, and it is time for the this years annual ball. Sophia doesn‘t like having to just believe the story, even as it is considered the religion of the country. The dark part of this book is that after 3 years of failed tries to be chosen, the girls lives are considered forfeit. don‘t know what.Sophia wants to choose who she loves, not a man

“Do not be Silent. Raise Your Voice. Be the light in the dark.” This is a Cinderella retelling like I never seen before. Sophia doesn‘t agree with having teenage girls having to go to the annual ball to have a men chose them. She wants to make her own choices and love who she wants. She has set out to kill the king with Constance a relative of Cinderella‘s stepsisters. I love that Sophia and Constance set out to change history for all the girls!

Cinderella is Dead is POC read with LGBTQ themes set in a fantasy realm where women are oppressed by this Cinderella tale. I love Sophia and her strength to pull away from societal norms. I do wish they could just use the terminology in the book though, they vaguely say like you or like me when talking about same sex attraction. Other than that I really enjoyed the story and the characters. Picture features Calli in her sleep ball. #dogsoflitsy
