Halloween is the perfect day for a reread! This is so atmospheric and I can never reread it enough times. This and at the mountains of madness are my favourites

The lost city of R‘Lyeh where Cthulhu waits dreaming was my first thought for #autumnplease today! I absolutely adore the world building of cosmic horror it‘s one of my favourite micro genres 🎃

4✨Written as if they were journaling their experience the narrator is first curious of the sightings. When they finally see the creature it terrifies them into remaining silent just like those that were interviewed. Very well written short horror story. #Scarathon #TeamSlaughter @Clwojick
A horror story involving a cult conjuring up this monster. Not one of my favorites.
After reading Lovecraft Country I figured I'd better get some actual HP Lovecraft under my belt. I enjoyed the Radio Theatre version of this audio book, but definitely will need a reread down the line. I think I was too distracted to properly appreciate it. #Screamathon @4thhouseontheleft
Been working my way thru Lovecraft‘s works for a couple months now. Just finished probably his most famous story last nite. Really enjoying myself so far (mostly). Love the archaic writing style, and Lovecraft‘s imagination was truly remarkable. I know he‘s controversial now, and rightly so, but still, dude‘s work was amazing. Probably one of the best short stories I‘ve read in a while. Really looking forward to his longer works.
Meant to post this a few weeks ago…Cthulhu-like sighting at the mall.
Been a minute since I posted here lmao oops. Grad school will do that to ya, I guess... Current reads for class are The Call of Cthulhu and the Alchemist.
Written over 100 years ago.My 11 year old grandson wanted it.So I read it to make sure it was ok for him.Spent most of the 63 pages looking up words that are either too big for me or not words that we use today. It's a horror classic that I recommend reading.Especially good for spooky October ;)
What to say about Lovecraft? Overrated: certainly. Influential: massively. Likeable: hmmm. This isn‘t the cheapest Lovecraft collection but it benefits from Joshi‘s excellent notes and contains some fine tales. Innsmouth‘s the classic; worth the price of admission alone. Read it and you‘ll at least know what the fuss is all about. The rest vary. You can pick up all the stories for next to nothing on kindle. Some cheap print editions, too.
Extremely creative, visceral stories, with a type of mysticism and sense of wonder that I can‘t get enough of. The sheer magnitude of anxiety (racist and existential) is something I‘ve rarely come across in writers I read. Kafka is the only one I can think of, and he was without the racism of course. But it does remind me of Kafka in that sense.
Anyway, I love how cerebral yet deluded it is, with his paranoia. Awesome prose style too.
To shake off the maddening and wearying limitations of time and space and natural law—to be linked with the vast outside—to come close to the nighted and abysmal secrets of the infinite and the ultimate—surely such a thing was worth the risk of one‘s life, soul, and sanity!
Ha, this guy really committed his full talent to writing these racist epics.
Whatever though... I am enjoying it.
The opening to the story “The Colour Out of Space” goes absolutely bonkers. 🤯
“I have dwelt ever in realms apart from the visible world; spending my youth and adolescence in ancient and little-known books, and in roaming the fields and groves of the region near my ancestral home. I do not think that what I read in these books or saw in these fields and groves was exactly what other boys read and saw there.“
Remembering H.P. Lovecraft on his birthday.
Our lanterns disclosed the top of a flight of stone steps, dripping with some detestable ichor of the inner earth....
😈😈🔥
Hey ladies 👋😊
Now that things are slowly starting to open up again, are we returning everyone's books? Are we still reading?
Who has what currently???

Tor.com shared this on their Facebook page. Thought we could all use the smile.
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.
There are valid issues with Lovecraft's personal views which I will not reiterate because they are well documented. Speaking only of the short story, it is perhaps the most well known of HPL. The story itself has the investigative elements that I think HPL does so well. I thought the last third of the tale was the weakest, and would have preferred more unexplained mystery. Still, absolutely necessary if reading HPL. Cthulhu fhtagn!
A little over an hour for The Colour Out of Space, sci-fi horror. I first read this one as the iLovecraft animated app story 💚 super cool and glamorously spooky! 😸 I'd best hang up the Bat PJs and start my coffee.

“That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.” I wasn‘t sure about listening to the audiobook, but the narrator is fantastic - suitably creepy when called for.
“The Outsider” - a beautiful excerpt if it wasn‘t from a cosmic horror story
"The time has come," the walrus said, "To talk of the next round!" That's how it goes right? LMAO JK ??
No but seriously, I'm wondering who is in for another round in this book club. What do you say ladies? Are we in for a Round 2?

Have you guys seen these? Funko Cereal with a Pocket Pop!
I was a bit disappointed in this Lovecraft. He's usually quite descriptive, with the story moving pretty slowly. But fun because of the things you see. However this has ho-hum descriptions and let story than usual. It's still a venture into something new, but like a Star Trek with nothing but 60s scenery.
I like Lovecraft. I find his short stories pretty great and I see why he's still regarded as a great writer...
But I think it only speaks of the Age he lived in, that everyone's writing is filled with blatant racism as we see it now. This is not the only example, but the most recent.

1. What's looking at you? 👁 Another bookish Christmas gift! 😸🐙
2. Mostly home, with a Game of Thrones.
3. Non-slip black. Also, platform purple. 💜
4. I'll be getting rid of my IKEA style corner desk. Spring moving takes a dresser, book cabinet, TV cabinet, and futon bed.
5. Turkey Christmas dinner. 🎄
1. Not a great fan of Halloween, I‘d go for Candy.
2. Black Cats
3. Preferably neither, but am starting to getting into some spooky stories.
4. @EadieB @Melissa_J
Bonus : Lovecraft‘s Call of Cthulhu is a true classic.

I‘m so disappointed in this one. I only listened to “The Call of Cthulhu” (so I didn‘t technically finish the book, which is why I labeled it as a bail). I feel like the story never got exciting or scary at all. The narrator spent far too much time telling me the story was horrifying and not nearly enough time making me feel horrified. Plus nothing actually happens to the narrator. He just reads about it all, so there‘s no tension!
Gosh darn it. This book is so BORING in the beginning! I asked FIL and he swears it gets better, but I‘m really struggling through right now. That‘s so disappointing because I‘ve been really looking forward to this one for a while.
(Sorry no new picture since it‘s an audiobook, and I can‘t exactly take a selfie since I drive or shower while listening)
Halloween read for this week! I‘ve always wanted to read The Call of Cthulhu, but I just never got around to it. So I figured the week leading up to Halloween would be a great time for it! I wanted to read The Haunting of Hill House, but it‘s checked out of the library already, unfortunately.
Hey there #TeamCthulhu 😃 I just wanted to check in and make sure everybody got their books. It's already the 11th so you should have them by now and be reading them. Please let me know if you need anything.

Playing catch-up.
I think this fits the bill for #bloodcurdling! Even the cover is enough to give you the collywobbles.
@meghan2714 And @trioxin_sematary you both like your horror. Have either of you read this?

Day 4

sorry the image was cut off. I still stink at making collages. Let me know if you need clarification
Hi #TeamCthulhu! I got a little excited this morning and may have jumped the gun. Some of my picks were well over 600 pages. So, here is a new set of books that keeps everything under 350ish.
Relic and The Cold One are two of my favorites. What do like?

Just finished thanks to @SerialReader . It was a story that needed to be read. I‘m glad I did. Not my favorite, but now I know how it all started.
Cthulhu was on sale! 😍🙂

It's always interesting to find what folks use as #Bookmarks ! Both the tea & sugar packet were found in different parts of the same book.
Gotta say....I like their taste in tea & books! 😉🍵👍
