My Thanksgiving went a little like this....

Cooked a turkey in the slow cooker (definitely doing that again), watched some football, and read a Christina Lauren book like I did last Thanksgiving (starting a tradition here).

All in all, it was the perfect day.

I hope everyone else's day was just as perfect and relaxing.

Guys, I am HARD CORE geeking out!!! 700 years after finishing The Divine Comedy, and then dying a year later, Dante FINALLY has his own official day 💜💜💜 March 25 is most definitely going to be a day worth celebrating.

https://www.italymagazine.com/featured-story/italy-establishes-national-dante-da...

Graywacke Good timing, I‘m reading DC now. ☺️ 2y
cassiopia @Graywacke awesome 😁 I'm on the hunt for a good translation of La Vita Nuova. I have a Dante collection that is ever growing. 2y
Graywacke @cassiopia i read Mark Musa‘s last year - it was an old library book with Italian and English poetry, but only English prose. His essay afterwards was really excellent. (But, I didn‘t research other than check what my library had. Oh, also I learned that searching on amazon for it is really confusing and frustrating.) 2y
Graywacke @cassiopia also - cool that you have so much focus on Dante, that you have a collection. 2y
cassiopia @Graywacke I'm using my resources at work to look for available translations. I'll have to do more research on the translators themselves too. Ahh, thank you. I have an obsession with Italian literature. I have multiple versions of The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio as well. And I'm on the hunt for a leather bound edition of Pinocchio. 2y

Here I am reading Calvino's preface to his first novel, and pages later I keep returning to the same sentence because there is something of truth in it that tugs at me.

"But when you are young every new book you read is like a new eye which opens on to the world and which modifies the viewpoint of the other eyes or book-eyes which you had before..."

My sister wants to start reading more by buddy reading with me. This is huge on so many levels, but my favorite thing about this is it'll be a way to bond with her even though we live in opposite parts of the country. These two books will be our first books together.

Does anyone else buddy read with their siblings?

Reviewsbylola I have a book club that two of my sisters and my mom are in. My third sister lives out of the country, so we do our own family mark up book club, where we all pick a book, write our comments as we read, and then pass it down the line when we‘re done. It‘s fun to see what the others have written. 2y
GloVerdino I very rarely buddy read with my sisters because we all swap books, every time we together we have stacks to pass on to someone else! 2y

I know it's a little early, but I'm starting to plan for my personal reading challenge for 2020.

The theme: Italian
Book count goal: 30-40

I'm looking for books that are either 1) by an Italian author, 2) set in Italy, or 3) about Italy.

This is where I need some help.

Outside of the obvious authors like Primo Levi, Italo Calvino, Andrea Camilleri, and Elena Ferrante who are some authors or titles I should add to my list?

Megabooks She originally wrote this in Italian about how learning it helped her find her voice as an author. 2y

Pickpick

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Two truths and a lie:

1 - This book had me in a state of wonderment the entire time.

2 - I thought Emma had something to do with the girls disappearance.

3 - I'm not a fan of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

This book was great!! I loved how Sager incorporated the truth/lie game throughout the entire story from when Emma first went to Camp Nightingale, her return to camp 15 years later, and even after! I definitely recommend this baby.

Cinfhen I'm not a fan of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, either 😉#LoveThem 🧡🧡🧡🧡especially the mini‘s (edited) 2y
cassiopia @Cinfhen I really don't thought. I like peanut butter, and I LOVE chocolate, but I don't enjoy them together. I'm an oddball 😂 2y
Cinfhen Hahaha..... that‘s really funny 😄 2y

Guys, I tried. I gave this book a little more than 100 pages to pick up the pace, and really get into the murder investigation(s?), but it was too slow for me.

My first DNF and I feel like I'm abandoning the author. But I tried. I really did 😔

In order to sleep all day tomorrow so I'm rested for an overnight shift tomorrow night, I am taking the opportunity to drink wine and read all night long. Sometimes the retail life has GREAT perks 😂🍷 #winenot

After 7 months of living in TX, I FINALLY went and got me a library card. Naturally, I had to check out a book right away 😁

This past weekend in Austin was a blast. The Lyndon B. Johnson Library and Museum was amazing AND there was a special exhibit dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Motown.

Pssst... they have Billie Holiday's passport on display!!

Now to relax from all the wine. Guys, NEVER text your ex under the influence of 3 bottles. That's always a bad idea 😂😂😂

Andrea4 Oh my! Sounds like that might be a good story!!! 2y
