Well this was a nice surprise. A fine thriller with a unique angle. The writing is fast paced and the characters well drawn. Someone described it as Gone girl meets Dexter and I agree. An excellent choice for a train journey or a flight. Or a rainy Saturday afternoon. A great debut and added bonus, she has written several more so I‘ll be trying those out too.

I was stuck between a so-so and a pick for about half of the book. The last 70 or so pages, though.... wow! What a wild ride. The greatest last sentence I've read in years!

Dexter meets Gone Girl. A unique thriller that is quick paced with a brilliant twist.

A little different than the typical thriller, Downing‘s novel about a murdering married couple has a premise that drew me in. The pacing of this is strong and the cat and mouse elements kept me reading. However, most of the twists were predictable and it just didn‘t wow me. This is an incredibly overhyped book that just didn‘t deliver. Overall, this whole family just gave me the ick, and not in the “love to hate” kind of way. 3⭐️

I‘m a little concerned with how fast this year is going, but I‘m always excited for the next round of #bookspin!! Here is my list for March. 📚

So I needed a knife on the cover for the #ISpyBingoFebruary @TheAromaofBooks @Clwojick It intrigued me as it was about a couple who wanted to spice up their marriage #LoveAthonRomance @StayCurious I loved it! We see this story from the husband's perspective; who is never named in the story. I actually liked him. This book is not for everyone. It is a pretty cool psychological thriller, a page turner for sure. #LitsyLoveReads

This one just scrapes a Pick. Yes, it is entertaining & intriguing & I was compelled to keep turning the pages. But it did annoy me a little as it all seemed so familiar, so generic, so thriller-by-numbers. There is nothing NEW. And as for the twist at the end, I suspect everyone who has ever read a thriller before would fully expect it, let alone have guessed it! So only a Pick because I'm feeling magnanimous!

My second #summerween read. This was a great thriller about a husband who will do anything for his wife, including help her kill. This is the second book by Samantha Downing I‘ve read and she‘s becoming a new favorite. 5⭐️

Fathers Day is always a hard day for me as I lost my Dad 24 years ago. Today was a good day to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air and get a few pages in.

When you get a Snapchat from your friend that says go and get this right now you order it right away. It should be here Thursday about the time I finish my current read.

This book hooked me right away! I liked the perspective of the killers instead of trying to figure out who the killer was. With murder something always goes south and this dark and twisty story does not disappoint!

The couple that kills together, right? I enjoyed this a lot! A social climbing couple with the extreme alternate lifestyle 😁

So I have a whole working theory about what's going to happen at the end of the book. I'm going to put it in the comments with a spoiler alert but don't tell me if I'm right yet. I'm on chapter 58 and it's been slow going and not that dramatic or thrilling as some in the genre and there's still a lot of unanswered questions. Like the odd bottle of eye drops in the pantry... But if my theory is right it will all make sense.

I'm really enjoying this listen! I have lots of ideas about who and what and why but no concrete answers yet. It is however holding my attention which is a good start.

I'm dying to read this about to order it from the library. So many good thrillers I've yet to indulge in!

Nasty and boring story. I didn't like this domestic thriller about such a diabolical couple.
Just, books about mental sociopaths don't work for me 😒

This is an amusing, twisted little story. Highly unlikely but still fun. Lately whenever a contemporary (2018 or after) book has an "x years later" epilogue, I imagine what that epilogue would look like if the author had known covid was on the horizon. The reality of the pandemic kind of constrains my imaginings of any story past the back cover. Among other things.

Slow burn thriller turned shit-hit-the-fan. 4.5 ⭐
Definitely recommended if you need a thriller!

An entertaining but not amazing thriller. #audiobook

This reads like a bookclub book. Every other chapter has a domestic social issue discussion point, i.e. adultery, troubled relationships with parents, mental health issues, middle age breakdowns. The actual aerial killer plot is just an excuse 4o get to these issues.

This was just ok for me, a little predictable. I like her book He Started It much better.

You don't know what outcome to hope for for this unnamed, serial killer narrator. This stressful plot is deliciously devious and sick and twisted. Well done!

New audiobook for a beautiful Friday!

I was quite satisfied by this thriller and I completely get the hype surrounding it. It‘s clever and immersive with some fun little twists along the way. If you‘ve put this one off, like I had, you might want to reconsider that choice!

Our nameless hero and his wife are keeping secrets. He‘s also being blackmailed by his own son, is worried about his daughter‘s increasingly erratic behavior, and suddenly wondering what extra secrets his wife is keeping. Interesting enough to keep me reading, but not engaging enough to stay on my mind after I put the book down.

I always wanted to be more than above average

⭐️⭐️ • Short chapters should make this a quick read but for whatever reason this took me longer to read than I wanted. I found it mostly boring, rather predictable, and quite absurd. Hopefully some rewrites will make it a better movie or series than book.

This was boring and at times unbelievable to a point that I was just shaking my head. I don't love thrillers, and I found this fairly predictable. The end was the best part, and it bumped it up to a 3 stars for me. I'd recommend it if you love thrillers, because the concept is kind of interesting, but there's no reason to like, run out and buy a copy.
