“The Mystery Behind ‘A Wrinkle in Time‘ Cover Art Is Solved:”

IndoorDame How cool! I remember this cover art so distinctly! My dad gave me this copy when I was too young to get into a fantasy novel, but the art always stuck with me. 7mo

Rereading before going to see this at Stratford next week. I'd forgotten a lot, and having never seen the movies I have no reinforcement of the imagery so it'll be interesting on stage. #36-2023

I had never read this book in my youth for some reason & I threw it into my May mix for a Kindle reading challenge prompt. It was just OK for me—I found the story convoluted, the dialogue wooden & there was a bit too much of a push on religion for my taste & Meg got on my nerves. Will I someday read the next book(s)? Maybe. On the plus side, it was a quick read & I am happy to have ticked it off my list.🤷🏻‍♀️

I‘m sorry to say that this book didn‘t hook me the way I expected it to. I can appreciate how well it is written and the potential impact it would have for young readers, but I kept getting shared by the “issues.” Maybe you should read it when you‘re young?

In elementary school, I was in the lower reading levels and never had the opportunity to read this book. 20 years later, and I have finally gotten around to reading it. This book is just plain timeless. It is so incredibly well written. The characters are beautiful in their own unique ways. And I really appreciated the themes of love and family. Sad that the darkness is still relevant today… but definitely well worth the read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨(4.5/5)

dabbe As a teacher, I find your 1st sentence completely 💔. What on earth do we do to kids? No wonder some walk away from elementary school hating to read. In the 70s we had book kits with birds. That's where the “I'm a bluebird reader“ (I think) came from. They were the best readers. Nobody wanted to be the sparrow reader. Seriously shameful. #offmysoapbox. Glad you finally read it and loved it. ❣️ 12mo

Like: the mix of sci-fi, fantasy, (gentle) horror. Dislike: the overall simplicity of the plot, the completely anticlimactic ending. It‘s okay.

Reading location: the beach.

I don‘t get it. Couldn‘t follow it. I just couldn‘t envision what was written so I‘ll watch the movie sometime. It didn‘t make sense. Do I need to read all the others for it to make sense? It‘s supposed to have Christian overtones; at first it seemed to be the exact opposite then … nek minnit … guardian angels and bible verses? The characters were so bland. I‘m sorry, just couldn‘t with this. Sorry if it‘s your favourite book. Maybe it‘s me.

This is a great story for autumn with its beautiful prose about that season. It has some really weird Christian references that I didn‘t really see adding to the story (the story would be just as good without them) and possibly even detracting from it a bit. This is quite an adventure that is certainly worth the time. I love that the same groups that went after this book also burned the Harry Potter books.

TheBookHippie The whole series as a child was magical for me. 3y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie I‘m still sort of on the fence about continuing the series. The book was really good, but it feels very complete for me. I‘d hate to end up hating where it goes. 3y

TheBookHippie @GingerAntics Yes it‘s a whole series. I believe I‘ve read all of this author -my favorite as a teen was Camilla. Dark and I had never read a book with a marriage that wasn‘t good and a mother that was 🤯 like mine. It was soothing. 2y

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie I feel like I spend half my life shouting from the roof tops. Kids aren‘t stupid, they‘re just short. They tend to gravitate toward books, movies, and shows that present life realistically. Those also tend to be the books that get banned, sadly. 2y
kspenmoll @TheBookHippie This author was magical for me too. I did read the series, but this first was my favorite. I did reread this a few years ago & still enjoyed it. I should try & reread some of the others in the series because I remember so little! @GingerAntics 2y
kspenmoll @GingerAntics Love your “ Kids aren‘t stupid, they‘re just short.” Was talking with some HS students today & they were amazed at some of the titles of “banned books.” What a great job I have - I get to talk about books!!! 2y
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll I‘m thinking a reread may be in order for me. 2y
GingerAntics @kspenmoll I talked about banned books with my high school students every year and the vast majority of them didn‘t even know books could be banned. Inevitably, someone always asks “isn‘t this unconstitutional?” I‘ve even done it with college freshmen and sophomores, same reaction. They‘re so interested and rightfully outraged. I love it!!! 2y

So much has been said about this book that it‘s hard to add much. I didn‘t know about this book as a kid (why?!) but I could see how it would foster a love of reading. I teared up at the end, it came together so quickly but so powerfully. I will be continuing the series!

282Mikado Your review made me think of back when I first read THE OUTSIDERS and THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW way back in the early 70's. Two books that absolutely had a large part in fostering my love of reading. Perhaps they require a reread; along with a read of A WRINKLE IN TIME. Thanks for the memories. 👍 3y

What a delightful little inter- planetary adventure ! Although it's childrens' science fiction, it is profound in many places. It makes us imagine that if the human species degenerates, our planet could become like Camazotz , and if human conciousness evolves what earth could become with love and understanding.
