I got up to get tea and happened to look at the book cover at an angle and realized THE CREEPY LITANY FROM THE STORY IS HIDDEN ON IT and I swear that freaked me out more than even the book has so far.

This one was creepy! It's not often a book scares me but there were times when this one did. I think part of the reason was I listened to most of the book so when scary parts came up, it was even scarier thanks the narrator. I didn't get a chance to read this one in October but it's definitely great for a Halloween read. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I had a hard time getting into the storyline at first, but was hooked halfway in. The description of the deer effigy gave me the willies, and super weird dreams at night. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Lucy_Anywhere T.Kingfisher is one my my low-key favourite authors! Have you read The Clockwork Boys? It's hilarious! 3w
cjk @Lucy_Anywhere This was my first novel by her. Adding Clockwork Boys to the TBR- thanks for the recommendation! 😀 3w

Y‘all, this book! Drop whatever you‘re reading and pick this up right now! But don‘t read it after dark because I did. So don‘t. Just don‘t. T. Kingfisher (who also writes under the name Ursula Vernon) weaves a tale that is wonderfully spooky and mesmerizing. Mouse is the kind of protagonist you want to know in real life. So very good.

Well. This didn‘t really work out for me. I didn‘t find it scary but I think that was mostly because I really hated the narrative voice. It was extremely repetitive and smarmy. I don‘t know. It just wasn‘t for me.

Still finishing up some spooky books that I took out for October. It‘s quick reading so far, even if I‘m not really a fan of the protagonists tone.

#TeamSlaughter @Clwojick finished this thriller #Blameiton @Liberty found audio on Scribd after hearing Liberty talk about it and Loved This! I am going to say it is The Hills Have Eyes with Stephanie Plum and Lula if Rex were a coonhound! Funny, creepy, really great narrator for the audiobook- I laughed out loud between the frightening bits! Grandma who hated everyone and hoarded babydolls dies and Mouse and her dog Bongo have to clear the mess!

This is by far the creepiest book I have read this year. Pretty much the whole book I was on edge waiting, like during the quiet in-between moments of a scary movie. I don't want to give anything away but if you're looking for something to send shivers up your spine, add this one to your list.

If you are looking for a scary, dare I say twisted, backwoods creepfest that may give you chills or make you jump while also making you laugh, look no further. This book was lots of fun!

The creepiness factor of this book is super high. I listened to the audio book version after Liberty Hardy from All the Books recommended it. I listened as I took very early walks in the extreme dark. There was a few moments that I jumped, if that says anything about this book.

Usually I'm not one for horror, but when it's T. Kingfisher, I will read anything she writes. And this was creepy, and wonderfully messed up, but at least at the moment I think I can sleep without keeping every light on. I will be thinking about this for a while.

Happy pub day to this five star read! After her grandmother dies, a woman takes her dog and heads down to clean out her house. She encounters some secrets and horrors in the woods in the process. This book had moments I found genuinely creepy, but my favorite part was how funny it was and how enjoyable I found the first person narrator. I also genuinely did not know where the book was going with the scary elements. Highly recommended.

sprainedbrain Great review! I have this one planned for October. 🖤 2mo

I dug out my copy of Dracula 😍
So, funny story about the tagged book. I put it on hold at the library months ago, but today was the release date so I thought I might check the bookstore. They had it! So along with it, I ordered a copy of a The Institute. I get home, check my email, my hold came in. 🤦‍♀️

Right. Nope. This is Ursula Vernon takes a Lovecraft idea, thinks 'that was wrong and stupid,' double subverts it, fixes it, and adds a dog.

I gotta go track down some original source material and read this again!

I'm starting this ARC today, blurb describes it as Blair Witch Project meets Andy Griffith Show.....its set in North Carolina, the protagonist is a freelance editor named Mouse ( Melissa). After her Gma passes, she cleans out her house and comes upon a diary her Gpa had kept......

I'm really craving a good new (to me) horror story on par with The Shining by Stephen King or The Last Days of Jack Sparks by Jason Arnopp.

Anyone read any amazing horror that they couldn't put down and that made them unable to turn off the lights? I'd love to hear your recommendation as I'm making a list for myself!

FlowerFairy I‘m going to be following your post very closely. Could do with some new horror recommendations as well. 😁 6mo
Pruzy @FlowerFairy Hmm, I might just be inspired to make the list into a full on post or blog with enough interest! (edited) 6mo
