1. I would go back to the 1800s or maybe the 1600s.
2. The first time travel book I read was A Knight In Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux after which I fell into a rabbit hole of time travel historical romance novels. My daughters still tease me endlessly even though I read many other kinds of books now! Honestly, classics and everything! 😊

I quite enjoyed this. I‘m not a big romance fan, but I do like time travel. This one got even better with an unexpected turn of events in the middle of the book. Although, I did find Dougless to be a bit flakey. I have no idea what she ever saw in Robert! I do feel like this was a tough one to find a good ending for, but I thought she did a good job with that. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin There is an afterword in the edition I read, which was apparently slightly rewritten from the original. The author said she tried to make the reader see a bit better why Dougless might have wanted so badly to marry Robert, but I still didn‘t get that part of it. Despite that, however, I did love the time travel aspect of the book! 2y

I love, love, love, love this book. It's a 1989 first edition! A romance novel at it's best with fantasy interwoven. The main character is in a dead end relationship and while at a church she gets pulled into the past, far past, a long, long, time ago. Unique, and entertaining read it in one day.

I loved this one so much when I read it about 25 years ago (it started my love for time travel romances) but it doesn‘t hold up today. Could be that audio is not the ideal format for this story. More probably it‘s the heroine, who just wants a man so badly. Still, I eventually got sucked into the story and listened til the end.

LibrarianRyan I probably too read this book 20 years ago. then I loved all the but ending and it made me hate time travel books. Even thought I have read 90% of Deveraux books. I can see how it would not be as fun on audio, and I can imagine it dating itself quickly with it's references to modern times. No cell phones, or pagers, etc. 4y

This was given to me by a woman who owned a used book store in Little Rock, AR. She hands me this and says, “Free of charge. It‘s my favorite book in the whole store. I think you‘ll really like it.” She was correct! I couldn‘t put it down. This book will take you through time and bring you to a wonderful love story.

CindyMyLifeIsLit I remember reading this as a teenager! I loved Jude Devereaux. 4y

#7Days7Books Day 5

This one is not particularly "deep" or meaningful, but it is one of my favorite romance books. I also really love her Velvet series. When Offspring was in high school and wanted to try a romance book, this is the author I recommended to her. Offspring will tell you that Remembrance is better. (I'll tag it in the comments.) I disagree. When it comes to books it's definitely not "like mother like daughter." ?

Sace Remembrance 4y
CoverToCoverGirl I recently re-read this one.. It‘s rated as one of the all time best historical romances ever written... https://prowritingaid.com/art/702/The-Best-Romance-Novels-Ever-Written.aspx I‘ve read a little over half of the titles on this list.. I need to get to the rest. 4y

SO SO GOOD! I‘ve had insane things going on lately at home and this was the exact story that I needed to keep me going. A time-travel historical #romantsy by one of THE BEST.

What I loved most was how the author detailed the 1500‘s foods, cleanliness, medical care, entertainment, hygiene. The narrative included what we *think* about the 1500‘s vs what her research actually suggested and it was fascinating! The audio with Steve West is perfection.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa This one is still a favorite of mine! 5y
Christinak I was just discussing with a friend the other day what a great classic this is! An absolute favorite! ❤️ 5y

“Different. A good story finally.
A wonderful ending - Do not peep ahead.”

This is scribbled in the front cover of my current read from the library (tagged above). So fun to find notes like this!! 📖🙌🏻😍

(I‘m also listening to the audio narrated by Steve West 💯✔️)

Slajaunie I read this book many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it! 5y

This was an enjoyable story, despite the fact that the heroine was a wishy-washy doormat and the hero was a shameless womanizer.
I can't say that I liked the ending very much.

Cinfhen I‘ve NEVER read this author 🙄and I‘m still not able to tag people!!! Is anyone else having the same problem? !?! 6y

Sace @BarbaraBB he's a she 😊 if you like romance then you might like her. These books are her earlier titles and it's been a while since I read the Velvet series. I don't know if they hold up over time. I've read Knight recently and it held up just fine. Testing a tag @Cinfhen 6y
Sace Hmmm @Lovesbooks88 testing you too... 6y
Sace What is the tagging trouble? The list doesn't come up but I just type the name. If course I have no Idea if y'all all getting notified lol 6y
KathyWheeler I read A Knight in Shining Armor years ago and loved it. It‘s the only book of hers that I‘ve ever read though. 6y
Sace @KathyWheeler I think it's the first romance book I had my daughter read when she showed an interest. Though Remembrance is her favorite. 6y
KathyWheeler @RestlessFickleBookHoarder That one sounds interesting too. 6y
BarbaraBB Haha, he‘s a she! ☺️ 6y
LoverofLit The Velvet Series by her is one of my favorites! I have a special place in my heart for Alex ❤ Also, the standalone The Princess by her is one of my favorites of hers. So good! 6y

I'm sorry, everyone I talk to says they really liked this book but I honestly just can't get past the weakness and stupidity of the main female character. She just really turned me off from the entire book. Just couldn't do it.

RainyDayReading That‘s how I felt with the Mortal Instruments. Just could not get past the main character despite everyone around me loving the series. 6y

Read this today between naps. My first “real” job was as a classroom aide, (this was in the mid-90s) and the teacher in that classroom always lent me books. This was one of my favorites from her, and a week or so ago I thought of it for the first time in years. It‘s was as lovely as I‘d remembered.

24/100 for the year, K for #litsyatoz, time travel for #pop2018, classic of genre fiction for #readharder

Oh man. So enjoyable. Great on audio! I laughed. I cried. I read this for my book club. The person who picked this wanted to read romance, which I was very excited about. I enjoyed the first half of the book more, which takes place in the "present" (1988 in this book). There's quite a lot of sweeping romantic language (like the above) that I loved because it really worked for the story. It wasn't trite or forced. #Romance
