Don‘t think I‘m going to get any more reads in this year, so here‘s my #top21of21!

Thanks for the tag @DrexEdit
#Top21of21 (sort of..)

This year I've read less than usual (I'm currently at 75/80 on my Goodreads Challenge) and I couldn't pick 21 books because most of my reading were just ok.. So here's my top 1️⃣0️⃣
"Six of Crows" and "Tre gocce d'acqua" are my absolute favorites ?

Most of my picks are italian novels and graphic novels, maybe unknown to the majority of Litsy ?

RaeLovesToRead I want to read Six of Crows next year 😊 2y
DrexEdit I've been reading the Wayward Children series too. Not as far along as you are though. John Boyne is on my list for 2022. I wish I could read in a second language, not that I need more reading choices! 2y

I‘m late to the fabulous party; here‘s my #Top21of21. It‘s been too fun to browse! Thank you tagging me, @Nute!

Size very, very vaguely corresponds to ranking. Honestly, it was so hard to figure out who made the cut that it could be a different list on a different day. (See many others‘ top hits for books that could have been included, like Project Hail Mary, The House in the Cerulean Sea, and multiple Becky Chambers!) What a great reading year.

tenar I noticed while posting this that all four books I read by Ursula K. Le Guin this year are here. She‘s become a serious contender for favorite author status, a spot currently held by Natsume Soseki. Maybe there‘s room for two at the top! 2y
Cinfhen A bunch of your books are on my #ReadersRadar for 2022!!! Super excited 😊 Thanks for posting and tagging ♥️ 2y
Bookwormjillk A Raisin In The Sun has been a favorite of mine since my mother brought me to see it in high school. Great list! 2y

BarbaraBB Great choices. I loved The Housekeeper and the Professor 🤍 2y
merelybookish This is a great list! Sister Outsider is so good. I was thinking of reading more Lorde in 2022. 2y
Liz_M Carmella! 2y
charl08 Fascinating list! I'm really enjoying seeing what everyone has rated this year (making my wishlist grow though!) 2y
tenar @Cinfhen That is exciting! I hope you enjoy any of them your try. Thank you for making this tag; it was so fun! ♥️ 2y
tenar @Bookwormjillk Since its reputation proceeded it, I thought I knew a bit of what to expect (plus seeing lots of clips of Sidney Poitier, hah). But the depth of it! Especially in the female characters - I was so moved by Beneatha. It‘s a fabulous play. What a nice memory to have with your mom! 2y
tenar @merelybookish Right? I just read her introduction to The Cancer Journals as part of an anthology and was so impressed once again. Definitely hope to read more from her in 2022! 2y
Suet624 I've never read any LeGuin. Looks like I have to get started! 2y
tenar @Suet624 Thinking of you reading Le Guin gives me a thrill! I don‘t know how often you read sci-fi or fantasy? But I think she came from a family of anthropologists and writes about her imagined worlds in a way that might interest you, where we learn about them while learning about ourselves. She also wrote nonfiction and poetry. Let me know if you get curious 🤓 I‘m excited to sit down this week and figure out what to read from her next! 2y
Suet624 I‘ve taken a screenshot of the ones you‘ve read so I‘ll remember which ones to look for. Your description is enticing. 2y

Good gracious! I had one heck of a GOOD time here on Litsy yesterday. It was like a party.🥳🎊
#TOP21OF21 WAS THE BOMB!!!
Better than a lottery win…well, a little teeny weeny lottery win.😂
I finally had to get pencil & paper to make a list of future reading material. You all are STELLAR readers! So many books that I had never heard of. So many books rocketed to the top of next year‘s reading list because of enthusiastic complimentary words.👇🏽

Nute It was LIT around here!!!🔥 Pun intended.
Litsy is such an exciting and wonderful place. I feel so blessed to be in your company.
Thank you…each of you…all of you!💕
2y
AmyG I agree! And HA…I‘ve been making a list from everyone‘s top 21, too. Like I need more books to read 😂 2y
JamieArc I was planning on making that list today after a few more people posted 😊. I think I‘ve finally figured out what my top 21 are to post my own! 2y

Amandajoy I‘m debating making a list… there‘s still a week and a half of the year left! 2y
RaeLovesToRead LOVE this post!!! 😁😁💕 2y

kspenmoll I am still scrolling through the Best 21 of 2021- I share your excitement!!! Thanks for the joy you bring to us here!!! 2y
MicheleinPhilly @Amandajoy I‘m making my list on the 31st. I‘m not done reading yet! 2y
Christine Agreed!! My phone is filling up with screenshots of these fantastic posts! 2y
Flaneurette Yes! I‘m loving all the lists! 2y
Bookwormjillk You‘re so right @Nute Great lists. And all the pretty covers. Great Litsy day. 2y
Deblovestoread Kimberley, you help make Litsy the awesome place it is! And all these #Top21in21 has exploded my TBR in the best possible way and I know I‘m not alone. Yesterday was such a lovely Litsy day! 2y
BarbaraBB It‘s been lit indeed and you have very much been contributing to that mood! 🤍🤍🤍 2y
Lcsmcat So many books! I want to read them all!! 2y
merelybookish I agree! It's been so fun enjoying all these lists! I believe @Cinfhen was a party planner once upon a time, and now we are lucky to have her making parties for us on Litsy! 🥳🎉💃 2y
Megabooks Agree!! I‘ve loved seeing everyone‘s lists! 2y
CarolynM What a lovely post! I agree, it's great to see everyone's lists and it explodes my TBR too🙂 Happy reading in 2022! 2y
Chelsea.Poole Yes!! 🔥 📚 ♥️ 2y
BookNAround I‘ve enjoyed looking at the lists and intend to make my own as soon as I get through the chaos of last minute Christmas stuff. 2y
BiblioLitten 💜 love your post! 2y
Cinfhen xx @merelybookish the BEST parties usually have the BEST “guests”!!! YOU ALL made the party rock 🙌🏻💞🍾😘 2y
Nute @AmyG I have several pages of notes now. On a legal notepad at that! This is a 20-year reading plan!😂 2y
Nute @JamieArc I can‘t to read your list. I know that I will adding books from it to my notes on the Epic Event!😁 2y
Nute @squirrelbrain Thank you, Helen! There are so many Littens that I would love to know personally (in real life). You don‘t know how much I wanted to be at the Reading Retreat at Gladstone‘s Library a few weeks ago with you and friends. It looked like such an amazing time. So blessed for many friendships in this virtual literary space. Litsy would never be the same without you!💕 2y
Nute @Amandajoy Make the list after December 31st. It will be wonderful to read it whenever you make it, Amanda. My list has already evolved after reading the selections of other Littens and then recalling, “Oh, yes, I read that book and it was excellent. I should have picked it over this or over that.” HaHaHa! 2y
Nute @RaeLovesToRead Thank you, Rae!💕 I enjoyed your list. Because of you, I now know that my Bookclub should consider the entire series of The Thursday Murder Club and not just the first book. We never follow through on series, which is kind of mandatory in my book. 2y
Nute @Cinfhen Your words sure did brightened my day! When camaraderie is delivered without expectation, it is the most loveliest of things. You filled my heart with joy and I thank you, Cindy!💕 2y
Nute @batsy We simply get each other!💕🙂 2y
Nute @kspenmoll Top 21 of 2021 continues to be a scrolling activity.😆 I wish that we were doing it together on YOUR front porch, Katherine. I feel that I have made your front porch one of my top ten destinations in life!🤗 (edited) 2y
Nute @MicheleinPhilly I totally get this decision, Michele. I‘m not really sure how it got started before the absolute end of the year, but I was just so excited that I could wait.🥴 I will employ all patience to wait for your list, because I know that it will greatly impact my reading plans for next year!🤗 2y
Nute @Christine Screenshots of these lists! That is an excellent idea. I had resorted to paper and pencil and my hand was begging for a break!😆 2y
Nute @Flaneurette I am still having a good time with Top 21 of 2021. It is now my favorite resource for future reads, Annette!🤗 May I ask about your Litsy handle because I really like it? Is it a play on your name? 2y
Nute @Bookwormjillk “Great Litsy Day!” Isn‘t fun to say, Jill. Everything about that event was fantastic. It felt like a great sharing of minds between friends! I was so delighted to see Rita Williams-Garcia on your list!🤗 Not only did Top 21in 2021 provide future reading material, it reminded me of old favorites that I would like to revisit. 2y
Flaneurette @Nute you are correct! I‘ve always been enamored with fin de siecle Europe and the lifestyle of the flaneur so I modified it to flaneurette bc it reflects my first name better than flaneuse 2y
squirrelbrain We‘d have loved you to be there at Gladstone‘s @Nute ! Along with so many other lovely Littens too, but we are lucky also to have Litsy when we can‘t meet in real life! 2y
Nute @Kdgordon88 Thank you, Debra!💕AWESOME is the right word for the vibe of this community. Your warmth is felt here! Top 21 of 2021 will definitely be my go-to action for book selections next year. I just don‘t think that it can be better than getting the endorsements from my fellow Littens!🤗 2y
Nute @BarbaraBB Thank you, Barbara!💕Tight hugs and sloppy kisses coming in your direction!🤗🥰 2y
Nute @Lcsmcat Yes! The most accurate statement of the year, Linda… ”Books! I want to read them all!!” I AGREE!👍🏽😃 2y
Nute @merelybookish I am still enjoying scrolling through the lists for Top 21 of 2021, Margot. I just got the idea to screenshot them for preservation purposes. Too much fun!😆 2y
Nute @merelybookish @Cinfhen Yes, the party was in full-effect mode, and it could not have achieved its greatness without the PARTY-PLANNER! Ms. Cindy, kudos, girl!!!🤗🙌🏽 2y
Nute @Megabooks It was, is and always will be so much fun to read through lists like these from fellow readers and friends, Meg! Especially Littens!🤗 2y
Nute @CarolynM Thank you, Carolyn! I‘m so excited about my reading in 2022, because I have already incorporated into the plan several recommendations and many endorsements of literature from the Top 21 of 2021 lists including Mayflies from your list. The anticipation is a wonderful high.🤗 Happy reading in 2022 to you as well, sweet Friend!💕 2y
Nute @Chelsea.Poole We‘re on the same page, Chelsea! I like it!💕 2y
Nute @BookNAround I will be looking forward to your list, Kristen. I will have paper and pencil at the ready for what I know your selections are going to do to my next year‘s intended read list. Here we go!😆 2y
Nute @BiblioLitten Thank you, Archana! Purple hearts 💜💜💜 right back at you!! 2y

#Top21of21

Here they are in no particular order. This year gave me two new auto buy authors Wilkerson and McConaghy and other new to me authors. Loving everyone‘s list and have started building another TBR based on what I see. Keep them coming!

Consider yourself tagged and join the fun!

squirrelbrain I agree with McConaghy… I had Migrations in my top 21 and Wolves just missed out. 2y
TrishB Some great ones there 👍🏻 2y
Cinfhen Agreed!!! Keep them coming!!! Thanks for posting & sharing 2y

Cinfhen I‘m looking forward to both of the Wilkerson‘s (edited) 2y
ShelleyBooksie Night left me speechless - every word in that book counts. What a story and what an amazing author 2y
CBee We have really similar taste in books, @Kdgordon88 ♥️ I meant to put Convenience Store Woman on mine but it got left out somehow 🤷‍♀️ (edited) 2y
Deblovestoread @cbee I agree! You read some of my favorites this year Dutch House, Heart‘s Invisible Furies, Night Circus and Homegoing..and I‘ve moved some of the others to the top of my TBR.💜 2y
CBee @Kdgordon88 I love these lists - more to look forward to! And of course adding to the never ending TBR 😂🤷‍♀️ 2y
Nute Fantastic reading this year! I imagine that if I reread Night, it would make every Top-Read List for me in that year. I am discovering so many new books because of everyone‘s choices. Reading through these posts is like a Saturday morning heavenly literary smorgasbord from some of my most favorite people on the planet! Such a delight!💕 2y
kspenmoll Some wonderful books- ! 2y
Chelsea.Poole Also loveeeeddd Hamnet and McConaghy is a top author for me as well @squirrelbrain Thinking of doing Warmth of Other Suns for a challenge in 2022. 2y
BarbaraBB Fantastic choices! So many I loved too! 2y
KarenUK So many great ones! Burial Rites is an time favorite of mine 💕 2y

#Top21of21
Thank you for thinking of me @Centique 💕

It was fun to look back over the year. It was a challenge to select. For that very reason, I don‘t often call books “favorite.” It seems that I find some merit in just about every book, but some a whole lot more than others.🙂
These are books that I shall continue to think about and maybe reach for again one day.

I sure would like to hear from you Scott ( @vivastory ) and Jocelyn ( @BeaG )🤗

TrishB We have 4 the same 👍🏻 2y
Cinfhen I LOVE everything about this post!!! We have a bunch of crossovers so I must check out the others you mentioned!!! 2y
See All 47 Comments
Ruthiella A Psalm For The Wild Built was ALMOST on my list too. I must get to 2y
Jolynne Fresh Water for Flowers! ❤️🌸 2y
Reggie Real Life! Loved that book. 2y
EvieBee So your post on Fresh Water for Flowers made me check it out from the library just now. Thank you! (edited) 2y
vivastory Rilke, Whitehead, Wilde...what a wonderful list! I have several others on my TBR. Looking forward to reading them 2y
squirrelbrain We have 5 the same, and a few others of yours were borderline for me! 2y
merelybookish Thanks for the tag! Rilke's Book of Hours is beautiful! ❤️ 2y
Billypar Nice selections! Dorian Gray will always hold a special place in my heart for getting me back into reading for fun post-college. 2y
marleed Some of your books are on my top 21, as well. And thank you John Green for teaching me how to star my own experiences and helping me contemplate that not every experience will or should garner all the stars! 2y
ReadingEnvy The Secret Lives of Church Ladies and Psalm of the Wild Built are on my top reads of 2021 list but I'll have to narrow a bit for 21. Thanks for tagging me! 2y
LeeRHarry We Begin At The End is a popular one - have seen it on these lists a few times - must be a must read! 😊 great list! 2y
MaureenMc This looks like an outstanding reading year! 2y
megnews I‘ve had Nickel Boys on my tbr. Really need to get to it. I also want to read Love Songs but intimidated by the length. 2y
CarolynM I have several of these waiting to be read. 2022 should he a good reading year🙂 2y
rubyslippersreads Thanks for the tag! Several of these look intriguing. 😊 2y
BarbaraBB So many wonderful choices! Thanks for sharing them! 2y
KarenUK What a great list! 💕 2y
Chelsea.Poole I still need to make my list but a few of these will definitely be on it! Especially 2y
Leftcoastzen I loved Secret Life of Church ladies, it was just hovering under on my list , that‘s what‘s so hard about lists . 2y
batsy Fantastic list. Real Life, what a book. I can't wait to read The Love Songs of WEB Du Bois and to discover Rilke's Book of Hours. 2y
staci.reads Thanks for the tag! You have a few on there that will probably be on mine as well. I'll pull my list together next week sometime, after I've had a few vacation days to read 🤗 2y
MicheleinPhilly Thanks for the tag, Kimberley! I‘m going to hold off on compiling my list until the 31st as I still have a LOT more reading planned for this year. But these lists are really inspiring me in terms of my choices! 2y
vlwelser I love your choices! Thank you for the tag! 😘 2y
kspenmoll I spy a few I own… inspiring me to open them! 2y
Christine This is a great group of books (a bunch I also loved and others that I hope to get to)! And thank you for the tag! I don‘t think I‘ll be able to resist joining the fun. 😁 2y
tenar Thank you for tagging me; I might have missed out on the fun if you hadn‘t! I feel the same way about picking favorites, but what a great list you made. I‘m super interested in Empire of Pain, Church Ladies, Migrations, and Rilke. 2y
Kimberlone I will do this before the end of December! 2y
Bookpearl My word!! Favorites…😩🤣definitely will do this but surely will have a hard time. 2y
Nute @TrishB That‘s way cool, Trish!💕 2y
Nute @Cinfhen It solidifies a good reading effort when there are many commonalities on Best, Top and Favorites lists of the year!🤗 2y
Nute @Amiable I knew that we would have common ground, Amy!💕 2y
Nute @Ruthiella Becky Chambers is totally reliable for the “that was fresh and different” category so her books always stand out. It was a challenge to narrow choices to 21 books. What did you select instead of her? I put The Secret Lives of Church Ladies on repeat rotation for about three months earlier this year.🙂 2y
Nute @Jolynne Yes!🤗 2y
Ruthiella @Nute I already had Murderbot in my 21 as a placeholder for feel-good SciFi. 😅 2y
Nute @Ruthiella Thank goodness, next year will be Top Twenty-TWO! Yay!😆 2y
Nute @Reggie Yes! Are you going to make a list? I am patiently waiting for your horror book endorsements from those read in 2021, though now I know that there might be some lighter romantic reads making the cut!☺️ 2y
Nute @EvieBee That is wonderful, Eve! Sometimes, one reader can tell that a book will perfectly fit the reading taste of another reader. I feel that you will enjoy this story. Please let me know your concluding thoughts!☺️ 2y
Nute @vivastory Yay, for us Wilde fans! Enough said!!! Well, there could be words on Rilke…we know what‘s up…pure brilliance! 2y
Nute @squirrelbrain I have such a greater connection to these Top 21 of 2021 Lists on Litsy than most other end-of-year Top/Favorites Lists floating around on the Internet. Maybe because over the years many of these readers have become my friends or maybe it‘s because there is an opportunity to be in discussion about the books with the folks who selected them. Whatever it is, Helen, I knew that we would have books in common.🤗 2y
Nute @merelybookish You are welcome, Margot!💕 Yes! Rilke‘s words touch the soul! I love reading his books late, in the dark of night, or early morning as the sun is rising! I guess whenever the world slows its revolutions and thoughts are quieted. 2y
Nute @Billypar Dorian Gray never leaves my nightstand. After I read it, it returns to the bottom of the pile of books lingering there, patiently waiting for its resurface at the top and another acquaintance. I like knowing that it brought you back to reading for pleasure after the heavy intense reading required in college. That‘s wonderful, Vinny!🤗 2y
Nute @marleed When I came across The Anthropocene in the bookstore, my first thought was that it was misshelved because I had noticed the author‘s name as well as the title. I wondered why is this book in the Essays section instead of the YA section. Initially the curiosity wasn‘t enough for me to seek an answer, but when I got home, I looked into it.👇🏽 2y
Nute @marleed 👆🏽 I was surprised, not by the fact that John Green had done this, more by the fact of its well-liked approval standing. I went back to the bookstore the next day to purchase it. I‘m so glad that I did!🤗 2y
marleed @Nute Oh I had similar thoughts. I have a stack of YA‘s (all thrifted) and I‘ve read most of them. A few I really liked and others were a miss. I was reticent going into this so it was an audio library loan. Halfway in, I was all in and purchased the hard copy to enjoy in print. Seeing the books on my shelves remind me to work towards a day above 3 stars! 2y
