I just couldn‘t get into this one. I think it‘s really just the genre for me is so hit or miss and this one just did not grab my attention at first and I just had such a hard time getting into it. Not really my cup of tea, but I can see how some people would enjoy this one!

this book was okay, sick of cliffhangers.

Now that cycling‘s replaced walking as my main form of exercise, I do most of my bookish listening while I clean or play Candy Crush, neither of which makes for an even semi-interesting picture post. Today, though, I did a bit of #audiosewing! I confirmed the muslin sleeves work on my YSL jacket, so I can go ahead and recut the wool ones.

I don't love spy books, but my propensity for randomly selecting books without reading the description occasionally lands me in books that aren't my cup of tea but are still good. This is one such book. I loved reading Dani's drive to survive, the world building was excellent, and I enjoy the enemies to lovers trope. #LGBTQ #Spy

This book reminds me of the YA version of The Handmaid's Tale. It is so intriguing. I have been in a reading rut for a while, and this one has been a very fast read!

I read this on my kindle and at one point I looked down and saw I was 75% through??? All the way from start to finish it felt like this book had no climax. Sure, there was plot, but it was just enough to keep me interested, nothing more. And towards the end of the book, some of the supposedly “obvious” conclusions Dani came to were super unclear to me. Probably won‘t read the sequel. 3⭐️

I DNF two audiobooks yesterday!! 😱 I can't believe it! It's not a common thing for me to do, but for some strange reason, I couldn't do it. I made it to Ch 6 in this one.

In NEED of recommendations on a great sci-fi Audiobook. I don't like complicated world building or too much space. I prefer sci-fi with fantasy etc.

This was a great book and I idolise Tehlor Kay Mejia whenever I write. The writing style is immaculate and of course, the book itself is fascinating and marvellous! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I found this to be a bit of a slog, so I listened to it at 2.5-3x speed. It's longer than it needs to be without fleshing out its characters enough for me to care about them to the level I should. The concept is interesting, a society where women's greatest goal is to become one of two wives (brains or beauty) to a wealthy man. The class divide and xenophobia feel relevant, and I love a f/f romance. It just didn't quite work for me.

This book is basically 2020 in a nutshell, but in a way that makes me cautiously optimistic about 2021.

This book was a total cover buy and I had no idea what it was actually about when I started reading it but I loved it! This a YA kind of Handmaid's Tale and I was r a really surprised on just how much I ended up liking it.

I had fun with this. It‘s the basic dystopian formula—a world where the rich get richer and the poor are ground down, a poor girl in the dazzling world of the rich, a handsome but cold rich love interest, a resistance, a mischievous and clever boy from that resistance—but with a wonderful Mexican feel to the world and a surprising queer twist. I found the ending confusing and disappointing, but Litsy reviews of the sequel make me want to read it.

Although my goal has been to read more for pleasure and less for work, sometimes a person just picks up a book and starts reading. Mejia was set to come to visit, but... pandemic. So I set this book aside until I didn't. The bright side is that I may have enjoyed this book more because I wasn't rushing to read it. I got to just experience it.

This was almost a so-so for me, but I'm hoping the next in the series brings some of the answers that weren't given in this book.

The plot of a society were women are trained just to be wives to men and perform certain duties has been done before, and better than this book, but there were a few interesting changes.

I wanted to know more of how society reached this point and more of the rebels. Overall, it was a quick, fun read though.

I was starting to think I would never get a #ReadYourSign book done! But, here we are: a book with fire in the title and a main character who is VERY strong willed for #Sagittarius ♐️🔥. I also get to use this for #Booked2020 #Winter since the author is the same age I am and, thus, a #MillenialAuthor Triple bonus was that the MC was queer making it an LGBT+ book which is perfect for pride month 🏳️‍🌈

Started my reading year with this absolute gem. There are some The Belles/Six of Crows-y vibes going on and it was just such a wild ride from start to finish. Yes, good.

This dished up a few surprises at the end which was really fun. Enjoyed it on audio. Great world building for a dystopian story. Daniela has been trained to be a Primera, a wife that will manage her husbands household and be his partner, her husband will also have a Segunda that be his lover and bare his kids. She is wed to a man with high hopes to one day lead the government, a corrupt government. Dani has only got to this position due to forged papers, the rebels know, and use it to force her to help them.

Ohhhh man, this is already really good.

Sick as hell (probably [and unfortunately] because of a kid who was hacking their lungs out at the library, the other day) which means it‘s time to read some queer fantasy. ✨

LOVING this book....

I heard the buzz about this a while back. Glad I finally checked it out. It‘s sort of a YA Latinx Handmaiden‘s Tale-type dystopia with a very familiar boarder wall crisis. (More in comments)

I probably chose the wrong day to read this, with the senseless acts of violence discussed throughout the book, and with a wall built around a community - always sad when dystopian fiction eerily resembles real life.

I liked Dani‘s strength, as she struggles with her role in her society, and her feelings towards others. She‘s in a difficult place, and I‘m hoping the ending sets off for an even more powerful book two. I wanted to keep reading...
