Dystopian ya. There is a school where women are trained for one of two roles in society. Obviously, the world needs a rebellion.

Had so much promise, Latinx, lesbian love interest, but it just fell flat and read like every other YA dystopian instalove book. I had to make myself finish it.

It seemed rather sexist...like oh hey everyone is cool with polygomy...and biting your tongue when your husband is a prick...and let's throw in a untrusting pair for a romance...with a hint of rebellion. It was a bit too predictable for me.

I used to really like dystopian novels, and I keep placing them on hold, starting them, and realizing I just can‘t right now.

So- this book is great. I‘m intrigued. And I‘m quitting after an hour and a half because I just can‘t right now.

emtobiasz Yeah, I kept this one out from the library for too many renewals before I came to the same conclusion. 1mo

Their lips met like swords sometimes do, clashing and impatient and bent on destruction, and Dani thought her heart might burst if she didn‘t stop, but it would surely burst if she did. So she didn‘t. Carmen didn‘t. They barely noticed when the sky cracked open, extinguishing the fire at their feet, though it couldn‘t touch the one between them.

3⭐⭐⭐

mandi1082 When I first heard about this book I was so excited to pick it up and read it. It kind of gave me HandMaids Tale Vibe and I loved that book and that show.
I was really disappointed in this story and the way it was written. I felt like there was just not enough information given and it was just so one dimensional. I wanted to know more feel more get to know the characters better. I felt bored at times and found ot hard to pick up and finish. Will probably read the sequel just to know how it ends. Otherwise this book is just a
3⭐⭐⭐ read for me

Daniela Vargas has been trained since she was 12 at the Medio School for girls to be the best Primera wife even though her pedigree is a lie. She is just trying to live the life her parents fought for her to have.

This was a great story featuring a Latinx heroine who felt real to me and I really enjoyed the story. The story and the characters felt authentic. And the ending! Gah! I need book 2 now.

Yes, yes, yes! This books was soo good! A dystopian island full of corrupt politics, economic inequality, and sexism. A resistance movement blackmailing the main character the night before she graduates and is married off to a rising politico. Not to mention a dash of queer romance. This series has so much potential, and I'm excited to see where it goes! I couldn't read it fast enough.

Lovesbooks87 Agree!!! I wish I had the next book in the series like a month ago! 4mo

Ow! My heart! That ending and that f/f romance was so damn good and hit me in the damn feels.

I am 100% sure that I have 0 clue what is actually happening in the revolution rebellion. I just know there is one and Matthieu is garbage. He is the only person I know how I feel about. The concept itself is pretty sexist but it breaks down the women hating women plus the two main females aren't pushovers. Also, betrayal for days!

This book is as good as its cover! Set in a dystopian world in which women spend their youth preparing for very specific roles as wives, this is a story of resistance. I loved that the characters are Latinx and there is an LGTB love story.

I rather suspect this is a “It‘s me, not you” moment but while I liked this book I didn‘t love it. There‘s a lot to like—solid writing, an interesting (if not wholly original) world, resistance, feminism, great female characters, representation, & an ending that definitely leaves you wanting to know what happens next. It takes something special to stand out in YA dystopian lit, & this one doesn‘t. It‘ll likely find an audience with kids however.

emtobiasz Bummer— this one caught my attention. 4mo
TracyReadsBooks @emtobiasz I‘ve seen some love for it on Litsy so it may be worth taking a look. I‘ve been a bit of a moody reader lately so it could be it just wasn‘t the right time for me to read it. 4mo

Wow! This book was amazing. This book was compared to a YA Handmaid's Tale and I can totally see it. Dani and Cameron are trained to either be one of two roles. When they are both sent to the same house they don't like each other. But when Dani is recruited for the Rebellion she realizes that Cameron isn't so bad and as they get to know each other they start to have feeling for each other and both are involved in the rebellion. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Lovesbooks87 I need the second book ASAP. I hope I don't have to wait too long for it!!! 5mo

I definitely enjoyed this book! If you like undercover resistance organizations, f/f romance, and real world issues, this is your book. Immigration/human rights play a huge role and it‘s also own voices, written by a Latinx author. It‘s beautifully written and has some really powerful one-liners throughout that make you miss home and the safety it brings.

Current read: We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia
I‘ve been waiting since August to read this book! The story takes place on an island where only a portion of the island prospers. The main character, Dani, is trained to fulfill one of two important positions within society, but when her upbringing starts to catch up with her, she has an important decision to make: join the resistance to free Medio or participate in the abuses of society
