Four Dead Queens
Four Dead Queens | Astrid Scholte
Seventeen-year-old Keralie Corrington may seem harmless, but she’s, in fact, one of Quadara’s most skilled thieves and a liar. Varin, on the other hand, is an honest, upstanding citizen of Quadara’s most enlightened region, Eonia. He runs afoul of Keralie when she steals a package from him, putting his life in danger. When Varin attempts to retrieve the package, he and Keralie both find themselves entangled in a conspiracy that leaves all four of Quadara’s queens dead. With no other choices and on the run from Keralie’s former employer, the two decide to join forces, endeavoring to discover who has killed the queens and save their own lives in the process. When their reluctant partnership blooms into a tenuous romance, they must overcome their own dark secrets in hopes of a future together that seemed impossible just days before. But first they have to stay alive and untangle the secrets behind the nation’s four dead queens. An enthralling fast-paced murder mystery where competing agendas collide with deadly consequences, Four Dead Queens heralds the arrival of an exciting new YA talent.

Quite enjoyed this stand alone tale. It had elements of Six of Crows to it and some other wonderful YA books I have liked. The world was quite interesting although I wanted more depth to the history. Plus I would have loved to have explored the two other quadrants. Really great concept!

Hi everyone! I just finished Four Dead Queens. I really enjoyed this book. This book had many twists I didn't see coming. I definitely recommend this one. What are you guys reading this weekend? #litsy #kindle #kindlefire #paperwhite #library #bookgeek #booklover #bookholic #bookhaul

I was pleasantly surprised by the story structure - we see the aftermath of the murders as well as the queens while they're still alive. There were several times I thought I knew the twist but was still surprised the 2nd half was wholly unexpected. However, the Keralie/Varin chapters were my least favorite, which is about 50% of the book. I found the supporting characters much more interesting overall, who move in and out as POVs.

Caffeinated_Reader @MrBook yes I am the lucky owner 😅📚📚 I have a total of 9 bookshelves...in counting of course hehe 2mo
Caffeinated_Reader Oh I did not think I would love this book as much as I do. The story was extremely well told and unraveled at a quick pace without making the story feel hurried or unfinished. The ending was a bit drawn out lol but it was funny to see all the finger pointing and the shock and awe of it all. I thought I knew “who done it” but dang...I was pleasantly surprised. 2mo

This book sounded amazing and it was a pick for a club read on #bookbattle on Facebook so I figured why not. I don't know if I'm fantasy-ed out but I couldn't get into this book but the ending was worth it. That's what pushed me over into the pick category. Sometimes if I am forced 😂 to read a book it's harder for me to get into so I am going to recommend it because I think in a few months I'll reread it and if Im willing to read it twice 🤷

The writing is very basic, but as its a debut novel that will probably evolve with subsequent books but overall was a good solid story. Great read for younger YA readers.

1. Definitely 80s & 90s! Simpler time, happier people, with great music & movies ☺️
2. Prefer paperback or hardcover, love my kindle & occasional audio books if the narrators are good. Bad narrations turn me off 😣
3. Older 🤷🏻‍♀️

This book was the perfect blend of scifi and fantasy for me. So glad that I witnessed all of the hype and chose to pick it up sooner rather than later. Although the main character made me grit my teeth at times, the boom boasted a couple of twists that I really didn't see coming - and that's pretty awesome. 4 🌟s.

Finished this one this morning. I have heard people mention they either liked it or couldn't get into it. I though it was a good YA. It was a quick and easy read. I wouldn't say it was a deep read. But there was a twist at the end I didn't see coming. I enjoyed reading this one.

This book was a total blame it on Litsy and Twitter. I had been hearing great things about this book that I had to check it out. I was hooked from the very 1st page and didn't want to put it down. I wanted to know who was killing all the queens and why! I can't wait to see what this author writes next! This was my second book completed in the #24b4monday readathon. Not going to get the whole 24 hours but going to try and get 12 hours!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)

This was a fantastic debut for Scholte. The world-building was wonderful and I couldn‘t get enough of Quadara and the quadrants she created. The mystery kept me on my toes and I devoured this book. The end even provides you with not one, but two major plot twists. I personally was not a fan of the assassin plot twist, and prevented me from giving this book 5 stars. Overall, I highly recommend this book!

Just flew through this book! So good! I love the idea of 4 Queens ruling their separate quadrants but still ruling together instead of 1 King ruling all. It's got that "hear us women roar" vibe. Really enjoyed Keralie's character growth throughout her adventure as well. Easily felt and connected with her. 5 stars!

Went to the Melbourne launch of this last night and had a great time with my bestie (was a little nervous that it would be the first time I‘d bump into my now ex bf - but happily no!) at a packed bookstore! Amie Kaufman helped launch with a variety of amazing questions - including one about what houses each character belongs to... the signing line was long and I was very glad to be near the start as my feet were very over the day.

KatsGypsySoul I picked this one up today to add to my readathon TBR for next weekend. You'll have to let me know how you like it ^.^ 3mo

#BookMail Pt4 This months #owlcrate was a Murder & Mayhem theme with a ceramic travel mug with a Nevernight theme, a wooden bookmark with a Game Of Thrones quote, a candle, a canvas backpack tote, an owlcrate pin, a sticker inspired by the Three Dark Crowns series & a pencil & bookmark for this months book, Four Dead Queens. Set in a land that‘s divided into four distinctly different realms, ruled by four young queens. Until they‘re all murdered.

This had such a good start, there was world building and fun criminals and then it went sideways to down right bad. I don‘t want to spoil anything, so I won‘t but the mystery was kind of ridiculous, and I really didn‘t like the twist. I love standalone fantasy so I did enjoy the fast paced movement of the book even if I didn‘t enjoy where it ended. Keralie was a good main character and I did enjoy the queens, it wasn‘t a total bust. So-so fits.

So this was actually WAY better than I thought it would be. The murder reveal! Did not see that coming. I also was so sure about who was Queen Margareets daughter was and I was very wrong. The romance wrap up at the end fell quite flat for me. World building and magic/science structure was lacking. I thought it was sweet and then the end seemed very formal? It's an enjoyable light fantasy

This may be an #unpopularopinion but try as I might, I just can‘t get in to this one 🤷🏻‍♀️

hermyknee It‘s just more of the same from #owlcrate - I really wish they would get some variety and diversity in their books. They used to differ a whole lot more than they have been in the last six or seven months. 3mo
KatieDid927 @hermyknee This is why I have yet to even try them. 3mo
rubyslippersreads I keep getting it mixed up with this one 3mo
hermyknee @rubyslippersreads that one sounds fun! I didn‘t get too far in to this one because it kept reminding me of Ace of Shades and Six of Crows (neither of which are my favorites). I‘m just kind of over this genre. Not YA, but what feels like the same YA fantasy story over and over. I need something different! 3mo
LibrarianRyan @hermyknee I agree with that. It‘s been nice because all the books have been in my usual wheel house, but I liked it better when things were not in my wheel house and I tried new things. Plus for their mercy they are always going back to the same books over and over again. There are more authors than Maas, Bruidgo, HP, etc. 3mo
