Where Dreams Descend | Janella Angeles

I was really into it at the start but . . . Just what even was that ending? I kept waiting for answers about ~mysterious figures~ and literally nothing happened. I know there‘s a second one but you need at least SOME questions answered to keep the fire stoked.

A zoologist who studies DRAGONS?? Sign me tf up. To me this is one of the peaks of dragon storytelling.

This is my first experience with Zen Cho and I can‘t wait to read her other works. This short story was so intriguing in just ~40 pages, I immediately wanted to know more about the world and the characters within. Her interpretation of Hell from the mythology of Asian and Buddhist culture was a great setting for the story as well.

I just couldn‘t do it. From the first 40 pages I couldn‘t get with the writing or the flow of the story, it just seemed basic and predictable.

This book was a great look into the QAnon phenomenon, including how it came to be, how it evolved, and where it‘s going. QAnon is a wild and dangerous concept and I‘ve been interested in how it possibly gained ground and become the massive movement it is today. I felt like this book gave the complete picture, and I‘d recommend it to anyone who wants more info on QAnon.

I adore adore adore this book. One of my favorite tropes is “young girl goes through the door to another world” and this fit the bill perfectly. The longing of being separated from one you love really got to me. I made my mom read it and texted me from a commercial flight saying she was blubbering on the plane. She felt the full range of emotions that I felt with this book. And the cover 😍

I just finished this and while I really liked the premise, I couldn‘t get a handle on the world itself. Them being in Olympus but then referring to Berkeley in California? Jarring. I do always love Hades and Persephone stories though so I‘m not too mad. The real shame is the other books in the series aren‘t about them!
