As Death Draws Near
As Death Draws Near: A Lady Darby Mystery | Anna Lee Huber
29 posts | 29 read | 29 to read
The latest mystery from the national bestselling author of A Study in Death tangles Lady Kiera Darby and Sebastian Gage in a dangerous web of religious and political intrigue. June 1831. In the midst of their idyllic honeymoon in England's Lake District, Kiera and Gage's seclusion is soon interrupted by a missive from her new father-in-law. A deadly incident involving a distant relative of the Duke of Wellington has taken place at an abbey south of Dublin, Ireland, and he insists that Kiera and Gage look into the matter. Intent on discovering what kind of monster could murder a woman of the cloth, the couple travel to Rathfarnham Abbey school. Soon a second nun is slain in broad daylight near a classroom full of young girls. With the sinful killer growing bolder, the mother superior would like to send the students home, but the growing civil unrest in Ireland would make the journey treacherous. Before long, Kiera starts to suspect that some of the girls may be hiding a sinister secret. With the killer poised to strike yet again, Kiera and Gage must make haste and unmask the fiend, before their matrimonial bliss comes to an untimely end...

I‘m basically only using StoryGraph because of the charts they create! Here are my February stats.

Finished 16 books, 1 GN, 5 audiobooks

I wanted to read more for Black History Month, but only got to 3.

Finished my #DoubleSpin but didn‘t finish my #BookSpin this month

Overall a pretty great month considering a started a new job!

#FebruaryStats

BarbaraBB I love it for the stats too - and the challenges! 3y

#SeriesRead - 5th book in this series and they just keep getting better.

I absolutely love this series. I love Kiera and Gage. I love their relationship and how they respect each other so much. I also loved the Irish setting and the feuding Catholics and Protestants. I don‘t know much of that history, so it was nice to get a little information there. I hope to catch up with all these books this year.

annahenke I‘m such a fan of this series! 3y

FYI for anyone listening on #Scribd. Chapters 23 and 25 are missing. 😠 Luckily I have the print book too but I've been listening for #audioknitting and it's a pain to have to stop knitting to read the missing chapters. I made a ticket to report the issue so I hope they'll fix it.

Listening while resting in bed... I'm sick of being sick! 🤒 I started to feel better yesterday, but worse again today. I'm glad Litsy is a lively place tonight. ❤️

Just a heads up...for any of you who may be wanting to collect the Lady Darby mystery series, this title (it‘s currently the last in the series) is on Kindle sale until Feb. 4. I‘d recommend reading in order (there are currently five, with the sixth due in March). I read this series from the library so this is a great chance for me to start my own collection for re-reads without breaking the bank. 😊👍❤️

minkyb Sweet! 6y
robinb @minkyb I was happy to see this as they usually run $11-$14 on Kindle...hence my library trips! 🤣🤣🤣 6y
booksandsympathy She has another book in the series coming out this year. 6y

robinb @booksandsympathy I‘m so excited for the sixth Lady Darby coming in March (A Brush with Shadows). And then in September she has her second Verity Kent book coming out (Treacherous is the Night). I liked the first one in that series as well (This Side of Murder). Do you enjoy her books? 6y
booksandsympathy @robinb I've read all her Lady Darby books, but haven't read the Verity Kent yet. 6y
robinb @booksandsympathy I enjoyed the first Verity, but it‘s quite different from the Darby series (time period, etc.). I guess time will tell if it proves to be as great as the Darby series. I hope so! 6y

It was a little slow to start for me, but once I got into it, I had a hard time putting this book down. Another good murder mystery from Huber.

I started this book when it first came out last summer & quickly realized that I was just not in the mood for this story. It's not the books fault, it's just not what I wanted to read at that time. I finally picked it back up on Saturday. I love this series & even though this was slower than the others, it's still a good mystery & continuation of the series. I don't know if I can wait until 2018 for the next one🙁 #historicalfiction #mystery #read

robinb I love this series as well! This one was a bit slower but still great. Can't believe it's a full year from next month before we'll hear from them again....😢 7y
tracy.anne8 @robinb I love Kiera and Sebastian too! That's so far away! And after that ending, I'm dying to know what is going to happen! 7y

Lady Darby #5. This one is set in Ireland in 1831 amidst unrest between Protestants and Catholics. The main characters face mistrust and danger as they try to determine who killed a postulant just outside the walls of an abby. I love this series and the characters. I wish I had waited to listen to this one. It wasn't a cliff hanger, but Huber did some set up for the next book out in 2018. #seriescatchup

[DELETED] 2852984487 I'm glad to find this post, I will definitely look up this author. I have recently found the author Karen Charlton who currently has 3 historical crime novels out, and I gobbled them up. 7y
annahenke Sounds great, @RStorey 😊 I'm going to check that one out! 7y
Bookzombie I love this series too and feel the same. It's my next audio after I finish A Trick of the Light. 7y
robinb I'm currently on A Study in Death and will be very sad to get to the end of this series (for now) myself...maybe I should sloooow down?! 😊 (edited) 7y
Amy_H I listen to one of these and liked it. You could try Anne Perry's William Monk series or Victoria Thompson's Gaslight Mysteries. They will keep you going until a new one comes along. 7y

I read this book slower than the others in the series, not because I didn't enjoy it, but I felt there was more information to digest. It left me pensive and looking forward to the next book.

I'm slowly reading this newest addition to a favorite series... Kiera and Gage as newlyweds... Sigh.. Another great mystery so far.

MyBookLife What is the first book in the series called? It sounds great! But I have to start from the beginning 😆 8y
Jess_Read_This @MyBookLife The first in the series is called The Anatomist's Wife. It is a great series that isn't too gory, speckled with humor, and I really enjoyed the characters. 8y
