I sped through this yesterday to finish. While I don‘t think there‘s anything special about this YA dystopia, I‘d say it‘s better than average. Higher in quality than the Divergent series, but not nearly as good as the Hunger Games. I‘m interested in the rest of the series since this was a quick read, but not feeling a rush.

Pros: dystopian world wasn‘t too complicated
Cons: insta-Love, dead parents, too young main characters

Kimberlone @Saknicole you can have my copy to add to your classroom library if you want 1mo
Saknicole @Kimberlone yes please. I will read it too! 1mo
Saknicole Cons 😂😂 at least no hand on the belly ending or totally non tragic deformaties 1mo

Had to reread after loving Warcross. Will definitely continue series!!
Somewhat predicable, partly from reading it before like 3 years ago, and also because it seems to follow a kind of YA dystopian formula, which I'm not that mad at honestly

I listened to this book but also have owned it for YEARS! LOL 😂
The audio was great, as the narrator used lots of inflection and got into it. Those are my favorite kind. This adventure where the girl is (sort of) rescuing the boy is set in a future world that I could actually see being a reality.
Definitely a recommendation for lovers of adventure and/or utopia.

This was a great young adult dystopian novel... But boy was it a heartbreaking ending. For some reason, I see how it parallels the way that our world is right now, in that it's not that far off, but I have a little bit more hope for our world than they have in theirs. Amazing read, highly recommended!

This book has become so cheesy, but I love a good young adult dystopian. I kind of have a feeling I know where this is going, but it definitely has me wrapped up all in it...so I'm excited to see if my guesses are correct! Now that finals are over, time to read every single book I want over winter! 😍

It's starting off like the beginning of most dystopian novels. I see its resemblance with its forefathers, some parts are similar to Divergent for example... Having to take aptitude tests to determine worth and placement. Interesting.

Trying to get through some YA so I can take them back to my classroom and review for my students! Legend so far is awesome - a close dystopian world (one that semi-matches our own) is fascinating to me. I love the characters so far too.

This book was great. Its predictable and cliche but in the best ways. I highly recommend you read this if you 1) don't mind reading something written for a teen (think 14-16) and written the way a teen would like and 2) if you like dystopian books. I love them and found this story entertaining and obviously captivating and quick enough paced to read in 4 hours on a Saturday night

Book 01: Legend | Marie Lu

Oh my goodness. This book sent me through so many emotions that I can't even explain. It is such a well-written dystopian story and it is SO hard to put it down. Although it is pretty fast-paced, it is never rushed and...

I could keep going on, but you have to read it for yourself.

Fantastic dystopian tale of a boy who grows up on the streets of a futuristic Los Angeles, and a girl who grows up in a wealthy family. Both have exceptional intelligence and thrive in their respective environments. Fate pits them against one another, and the pace quickens. The story switches between boy, then girl as narrator.

Prompt 17: Compared to the Hunger Games #SFFTBRChallenge @DuckofDoom

I think I‘m done with dystopian YA novels for the foreseeable future. There needs to be enough worldbuilding to help the reader understand the world, but too much bog downs the story. Legend takes place in some future United States where the country is broken up into the Republic and the Colonies. Continued in the comments....

MirrorMask In the Republic, ten year olds are subjected to various tests were they try to score up to 1500. Based on that score, it decides if they go straight to college (very high scores), high school then college, straight to work (barely pass), or labor camps (failed).

14mo
MirrorMask Day, the male protagonist, is the Republic‘s most wanted criminal at 15 years old. It‘s not the magnitude of his crimes that makes him the most wanted, it‘s the fact that they have no idea what he looks like. All that changes when he meets Metias, and makes an enemy out of Metia‘s sister June. I loved the first part of the novel, but as we learn more about the Republic and this world, I like the story a lot less. 14mo
vkois88 I read the first few pages and it just didn't capture my attention at all 14mo

The word building is lacking, characters are unbelievable, the star-crossed lovers plot was cliché and the plot is very predictable. I'm interested enough to continue on to the second book but Legend really didn't live up to the hype.
