“Well as it turned out, he was just a really ugly duckling”
Teachers could have fun with this book using different voices for the characters and with the way it is written.
Published in 1992, this book won the Caldecott Medal. This is a collection of classic fairytales, retold in a humorous way. It puts a spin on the stories we all know and love. Kids would love this book as it holds lots of humor. This would be a great book when talking about adaptations of fairytales, and when students are writing their own versions.
This TL book is a great way to introduce (or reintroduce) traditional fairy tales to students. It puts a humorous twist on stories such as The Ugly Duckling and Little Red Riding Hood. This is a great book to use as a RA over several days, since there are several stories within. https://www.crayola.com/lesson-plans/stinky-cheese-man-lesson-plan/ is a great resource to review, because it allows students to use their creativity...
Blast from the past! This Folktale, PB is a hilarious spin on traditional literature like the Gingerbread Man. This book is a Caldecott Honor from 1993 and would make a great RA for the older students. It would be fun to compare and contrast the different stories with the originals. ReadThinkWrite.org offers a lesson plan where student can create there own “fractured” fairy tale. UDL principle would be 3.2, highlight patterns, relationships etc.
Stumbled upon one of my all-time favorite books on a bookstore run today ... maybe this is where I started to gravitate towards fairy tale retellings?
As an added bonus, the graphic designer in me LOVES the page design and typography in this - so much fun to flip through and see how far they took the tiniest details!😍
Do you think you know the classic fairy tales? Think again. I love this F book by Jon Scieszka and illustrated by Lane Smith. It takes a bunch of classic fairy tales and turns them into brand new stories that children will love. It is a hilarious book that everyone will enjoy. #ucflae3414f19
This book won the Caldecott Honor for its fantastic illustrations by Lane Smith
“I stuck it on to the end here so it would fill up the page and make it look like I really knew what I was talking about.“
This is a great book if you have time on your hands. Although it's a charming book that makes me smile, it's long and it could be hard to keep some students engaged.
The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid tales is a Caldecott honor book. I really like this book because it is a bunch of stories retold into funnier versions for kids. I like that it takes the classic tales that kids mostly know already and gives them a new and funnier version of the classically loved tale. I think this is a good book that would make even the most stubborn student laugh.
“The fox coughed, gagged, and sneezed, and the Stinky Cheese Man flew off his back and into the river where he fell apart. The End”
“The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales” was written by Jon Scieszka in 1992 and is a Caldecott Honor book. This is one of my top picks and is a great twist to my childhood favorite stories! Stories like “Little Red Riding Hood“ and “Jack and the Bean Stock“ are twisted into Jon Sciezka's unique version and allow you to see how creative this author gets with both story tales and illustrations!
The Stinky Cheese Man is a great twist on our childhood favorite stories! It provides a good sense of creativity and is a good laugh for my future students!

Could we even talk about TL without boosting this great book!? The Caldecott Honor & New York Times Best Illustrated Book winner tells the most hilarious spin offs of our familiar stories like Red Riding Hood, Ugly Duckling and Gingerbread Man. This could be a fun S activity after a RA, because the students would get a good laugh while retelling these stories! #LAE3414sp19
The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales is a hilarious collection of stories that are a bit familiar, but with darker twists. These tales have wonderfully odd illustrations & they are organized in such an unconventional but fun way.
Since this one was such a memorable book from my childhood, I would love to recommend it to children today. But: https://www.ericarobynreads.com/childrens-book-review-the-stinky-cheese-man/
I think this book would be great for kids interested in fictional characters who appear more realistic. The book would be best read aloud, when the teacher or book reader can provide a better experience with emphasis and enthusiasm. I think this is a book kids would enjoy and can easily be turned into a Segway into a lesson about folk tales and how they can change over time.
This book is a nursery rhyme book. All of the rhymes have characters, drawings and a life for their own. Each character feels real and the book ultimately feels like the make believe animals are real, and are writing this book about their lives in their rhymes.
Funny, funny, funny. Must be read aloud. Include some children who know their fairy tales.
The kiddos in our lives only get books as girders for Christmas/Yule. I‘m sure we will get our child more in the future, but we are that aunt and uncle and I wear that badge proudly.
#SeptemberDanes Day 8: This tiny little #StupidMan or stinky cheese man is what has made me fall in love with kidlit. Seriously. Unapologetically Clever, endlessly entertaining, and delightfully postmodern. For more recommendations of fractured fairytales, here is a list I made in 2011: https://wp.me/pDlzr-2vH

One of my favorite children's books!!! Who can resist some fairly stupid tales? It's an incredibly fun read aloud and both my kids both cracked up while we read it. They liked the Giant and the Little Red Hen the best! "Oh MAN! What is that funky smell?!"

The Stinky Cheese man is a TL folktale Caldecott Medal book that takes a fun and quirky take on classic fairytale stories. This would best be utilized as a RA to students, followed by this activity http://readwritethink.org/parent-afterschool-resources/games-tools/fractured-fai... Students will use this interactive tool to change the essential elements of fairy tale stories while also understanding setting, plot, and POV. Using
Well these are my favorite books, some since childhood, so I suppose they all define me. Take that as you will, I guess. 😊

The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales is a hilariously enjoyable picture book that fractures traditional tales. It won the Caldecott medal for its capturing illustrations. It can be classified as either F or TL. Scieska is a fantastic author for an AS.
#UCFLAE3414F17 Stinky cheese man and other fairly stupid tales by Jon Scieszka is TL picture book that was one of my absolute favorites growing up! The book, a Caldecott Honor Award winner, puts a twist on many common fairy tales and always gets a good laugh in! This would be a great RA/ RT/ DR because there are so many different stories to enjoy.
My #killertomatoes pick is The Stinky Cheese Man. It follows LibrarianRyan's description of a #killertomato...comedic, parodic, has a sentient being...
I checked this book out from the library the other day to read to my baby, but let's be honest, I really checked it out for myself...I think it's hilarious!

I may have not gotten to read my books while camping, but reading to our nephews by the fire made up for it ;)
The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales is a Caldecott winning book written by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. It contains fairy tales that are all written with a twist! It is a very interactive book full of humor kids will love! I love Scieszka's stuff. It's weird and silly and I don't find it boring as hell to read to my kiddo, which is ideal! This corner of the couch is typically #whereiread at home!
