This series is definitely growing on me. I much preferred this to the first in the series and the author's interjections didn't bother me as much. I definitely was getting Wickham/Darcy vibes from two of the characters early on, which played out nicely over the course of the book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a very fun Jane Austen mystery that had a lot of dangerous sleuthing moments that were pretty intense. It also included a lot of interesting history on smuggling during Jane‘s era. Thanks #pemberlittens and #janeandtheexcellentreadalong

Again I have mixed feelings about this one,I'm going to give it a soft pick.It is definitely better than the first one, but there's not sufficient explanation about why Seraphine was so reticent about sharing her story with the Captain and the fact that Jane in both volumes finds so many suitors makes me uncomfortable. I don't like the fact that the success of a woman in society is linked to being physically attractive, and I feel that making⬇️

Read with some of the #PemberLittens in September, I think I enjoyed this second book in the series more than the first. Jane & her family are in Lyme & there are smugglers & more murders for Jane to get involved in to prove or disprove the innocence of an attractive new acquaintance. Although I had the guilty party identified fairly quickly, I liked Jane‘s boldness & a brief appearance from a favorite character from the first book.🖤 Good fun.

• Jane Austen Mysteries - Book 2

This book read like an Agatha Christie novel. But, instead of Miss Marple or her Hercule Poirot solving the mystery, it was Jane Austen. Yes, our beloved Jane of Pride and Prejudice fame. Quite a mash-up if you ask me. It was quite enjoyable so I plan on reading the rest of this series.

Appropriately I finish this one on a cold day last week. I'm enjoying reading from the beginning and in order. Before I started my #janeandtheyear2020 Challenge I had read no 1, 4, and 12. #mymonthinchallenges

In this second installment, Jane is at Lyme and a man is found hung on a gallows on a beach. There is an assumption that it‘s the work of local smuggling lord, The Reverend. Jane hears rumors that The Reverend is actually her friend Mr. Siddleworth and that he is to be arrested. She‘s out to clear his name! A fun, light mystery that again is a bit convoluted, but overall is a fun time!

Really like this series!!

I get incredibly excited whenever a new book comes out in this very well-written and extremely charming series that features Jane Austen as a real life sleuth solving crimes in between writing masterpieces. They are all great, but my favorite is probably the second in the series, Jane and the Man of the Cloth. Stephanie Barron does a great job at capturing Jane Austen's voice and the history geek in me loves the historically accurate detail.
