“Well, I'm not a proper princess, then,“ Cimorene snapped. “I make cherries jubilee, and I volunteer for dragons, and I conjugate Latin verbs- or at least I would if anyone would let me. So there!“
“Now, Princess, if you'll come this way, I'll get you settled in.“

Dealing with Dragons | Patricia C. Wrede

I read a little into the second chapter, and she finds her way into a hovel with many dragons. I thought it was very brave of her to convince Kazul to take her on as the dragon princess to cook and organize the treasure rooms for them. It is more interesting for her than the proper princess stuff anyways.

Pickpick

After reading the back of the book, I think I would like it because princess Cimorene is not a normal princess. She runs away to live with Kazul, the most dangerous and powerful dragon around. In the first chapter, she hates being a princess and doing princess things. Her parents do not let her learn magic. She finds out that her parents plan to marry her with a prince who is not very smart so she takes advice from a talking frog and runs away.

And so it begins, one of my favorite partnerships in literary history. ☺️✨

Into hour three of #24in48. I haven‘t gotten too much reading done so far but what I have done has been highly enjoyable, so I‘ll take that.

chaoticgoodhufflepuff This is one of my favorite books! ❤️❤️ 4mo
Sunraven @chaoticgoodhufflepuff After our convo about it the other day, I had the urge to pick it up again, and who am I to resist an old favorite? 😁 4mo
chaoticgoodhufflepuff Oh man! I‘m feeling the same! I just might start listening to it at work tomorrow! The audiobook‘s fantastic! ❤️ 4mo

Sunraven @chaoticgoodhufflepuff: I‘m terrible at audiobooks but I might have to look for that one, just to see! 4mo

Sunraven @pppooraikul Me, too! It‘s really a great series. 4mo
TheAromaofBooks You know, upon reflection, maybe what really drew me to these books initially is that I LOVE cherries jubilee! 4mo
Sunraven @TheAromaofBooks: 😆 And here after all these years I still haven‘t tried it! 4mo
Nute This is why I love Litsy...I‘m sure that I stacked this from someone‘s Litsy review because I‘ve never heard of this books or it‘s author. Now your blurb and all of these comments have me yearning for the entire series!🙂 4mo
Sunraven @Nute: A close-knit community of devoted readers is a beautiful thing! And so is the series. 😆 Though I admit I sometimes skip Talking to Dragons in my re-reads, since it was actually written before the others despite being the final book in the internal chronology, and I don‘t think it has the same sparkle. 4mo

Well I missed the cutoff for the first #24in48 challenge but I'm posting it anyway! 😁 When people ask me about favorite book series I've read, this is the series I think of. A princess who rescues herself, befriends a dragon, and other hijinks! Imagine my excitement when I discovered that my favorite illustrator (Trina Schart Hyman) did the hardback covers! 😍

I always seem to be a day behind on these!!

1. Honestly, probably Anne of Green Gables, but I have a huge soft spot for the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, which are just so funny.
2. Does horseradish count?? At a church dinner a long time ago they had delicious strawberry jello & I put a big dollop of what I thought was whipped cream on it - only to find out it was horseradish!!
3. Spiders!
4. 3 younger bros & 3 younger sis.

I loved this! The characters were so interesting - I love a fiery princess who knows what she wants. It's well written and entertaining. I did the audio book and normally a full cast of characters makes things confusing for me, but this was so well done. Looking forward to reading more in the series.

Alright I accidentally fell into rereading the whole series instead of just one. But how could one resist a book about being a dragons princess, discovering and unraveling wizards plots, and using dumb men's assumptions about women against them?
Not to mention Kazul's library! Talk about dream collections!

Also, I‘ve never been able to come up with a literary tattoo that would be meaningful enough to *me* personally, but this might change that. I mean, just picture the wooden sign from Morwen‘s porch, maybe on a bicep or a shoulder blade: NONE OF THIS NONSENSE, PLEASE

mrsh62010 I don't know the references but i love this idea. I tattooed "NO" on my ring finger after my 2nd divorce and it's done more for me than remind me not to get into another miserable marriage... It also reminds me of my ability to just say no, no thanks, not for me, I don't want to... Any time i want!! So I think your idea would be great to let yourself and others know you'll have none of that nonsense! 1y

Nooot enjoying this narrator but staying with it. Figured I'd start putting on audios of favorite juvenile fiction in the mornings rather than leave news or cartoons on (I can't stand not having background noise when home with toddlers all day)

This is a middle grade fantasy about a princess who doesn't like to do the things you're supposed to do as a princess so she goes and becomes a dragon's princess. She has to fend off knights trying to rescue her and wizards causing mischief.

It's a really cute and clever book that I enjoyed quite a bit. A very quick read - something I wish I had found when I was younger! Good thing I can still appreciate kid's books now 😊

As with many of these prompts, my knee jerk reaction is to call out the Anne of Green Gables series as my #happyreads. But in the spirit of mixing things up, I picked some other childhood favorites that really deserve some love. I adore this series, which starts with a princess who voluntarily runs away to work for a dragon, and chases off all the men who try to rescue her. It makes me happy every time I revisit it. #marchintoreading

TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Leniverse First, in answer to your query: In fourth grade this book was my world. The text might be dense for a young reader, but any age kid can enjoy the gorgeous art. TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Leniverse page. A dad and his son are shipwrecked on an island where dinosaurs and people live peacefully together. Dinosaurs can communicate through signs and written language. The first book is really a travelogue across the island with no real antagonist, and it really focuses on the ins and outs of how the society works. The second is more action/adventure. 3y
Leniverse I can tell even without looking up the images that I must track this Dino-book down. And there's two books, you say? Happy days! 😁 3y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Leniverse 4 big fully illustrated books by James Gurney, 16 middle grades books set in the world by different authors about different characters, 2 adult novels!!! 3y

Also more puzzling is that there's only one lonely copy of Calling On Dragons. Which leads me to wonder... did I originally have all four and picked up doubles along the way? Or was the third book missing from my collection and I just got the doubles because I knew I was missing one, but not which?

I'm a member of two book clubs, which is pushing me to read more. This month I get a special treat, reading one of my favorite books. It's my favorite sort of story, one where everything has a certain way that it "should be", and a young woman looks at the expectations and chooses her own path. She decides that fencing and magic are exactly what a Princess does, because she is a princess. And who else is going to save the kingdom?

The best thing about old-school fantasy heroines is that they tend to make legitimately good decisions. Three cheers for the level-headed Cimorene, who escapes an arranged marriage to a moron by becoming a dragon's "kidnapped" princess and generally making herself useful. Quick and fun and makes me want to try cherries jubilee.
