I can‘t exactly say why I love this book so much, but I absolutely loved it! It made me laugh and made me tear up a bit. I‘m so thankful for the #booked2019 challenge for pushing me out of my comfort zone so I could experience this amazing book! I‘ve already recommended this book to multiple people and it may be my new favorite book to recommend.

Cinfhen This was really a special book, despite the allegations against Alexie. I loved it too 6mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage This year I‘ve read two #indigenousauthors who thank Alexie, plus it gets a lot of #Litsylove. I may just have to read it soon. Thanks for the reminder. 6mo

Sanaaq: An Inuit Novel | Mitiarjuk Nappaaluk

From the story that the Inuit have #50wordsforsnow to a novel first written in Inuktitut, one of the Canadian Inuit languages, in the 1950s/60s. It tells the story of a young widow, her extended family and their daily life, and was written in response to a missionary wanting to learn the language. And I might be about to stack a book from my own post 🤷🏻‍♀️😁 #winterwonderland

TrishB That cover is awesome too! 💕 11mo
batsy This sounds so good! 11mo

RachelO @batsy I might have to buy it. How sad! 😉 11mo
RachelO @trishb @Cathythoughts Doesn‘t it look inviting? 11mo
Cinfhen That would be an awesome pick for #booked2019 🙌🏻💕 11mo

The cover art is by Aaron Paquette, an artist, author, and also an elected city councillor in Edmonton. Eye catching, even as a tiny ebook image on my phone. #nativebooks #Indigenousauthors

Ok, so I know I said I'd use #LitsyPartyofOne to finish my current reads (some of which I started MONTHS ago), but how amazing does this book look?! I've picked it for #readaroundtheworld #ROTW #Australia this month and I'm so excited. #diversereads #ownvoices #indigenousauthors

Maybe I'll let myself start it if I finish my #ROTW #Syria pick from last month.

Marchpane This has been on my TBR for years - I look forward to seeing what you think of it! 2y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Marchpane Cool! I'd never heard of it till I was searching for an Australia book and wanted to find one from an indigenous author. I'm still working on my current reads for #litsypartyofone but I flipped though the first 2 chapters and even reading probably 6 full sentences got me really excited. Those 6 sentences had an east of Eden feel to them...we'll see. 2y

Today is #recommendsday but in Canada, it's also National Aboriginal Day. In honour of that, here's a recommendation of books by #indigenousauthors from Canada 👍🏼

I don't appear to have any #IndigenousAuthors on my shelves, but after flicking through the tag I definitely have some on my TBR! 😘 Thanks guys!

Marchpane Yay! Hopefully you've found something you'll love 😄 2y

Three Day Road | Joseph Boyden
post image

Hesitant to use this as my #indigenousauthors pick given the recent revelation that while Boyden has some indigenous roots, he's pretty much just a white dude, speaking out on behalf of indigenous people when others were better positioned to do so. In spite of that, this is still a very good novel. I hope that Boyden has learned his lesson and I'll be picking up something by Wab Kinew before I read another Boyden. #junebookbugs

#junebookbugs Day 7 I found this on my husband's shelves and added it my TBR. #indigenousauthors

JazzFeathers First book l read by Sherman Alexie. Hopelessly fell in love ❤ 2y
Bookzombie @JazzFeathers My husband read it in college and I know I have seen him reread it. All reasons to read it sooner than later. 🙂 2y

Despite the recent controversy, this was the first author I thought of for #indigenousauthors. #day7 #junebookbugs

Leniverse There's a controversy? I have the Orenda in the "next up" stack on the floor. Is this something I don't want to know about before reading? ? 2y
PurpleyPumpkin @Leniverse There have been questions about his heritage and his claims that he is part Ojibway and Nipmuc. It seems that evidence isn't found in his family tree so he's gotten a lot of bad press. These are on my tbr too and I'm going to keep an open mind when reading them. I've heard only good things about his writing. 2y
Leniverse I see. Ok, until proven otherwise I'm gonna go with the belief that he has not tried to mislead anyone and appropriate a heritage, but that he genuinely believes/believed that he's part Ojibway and Nipmuc. 2y

PurpleyPumpkin @Leniverse I agree, well said. 2y
Leniverse Btw. would you be interested in a buddy read of The Orenda if you're planning on reading it anytime soon? 2y
PurpleyPumpkin @Leniverse Sure, sounds like a great idea! When were you thinking of reading it? 2y
Leniverse Yay! Let's see... not this coming week but the next? I checked and it's almost 500 pages of tiny print, so maybe aim at reading it over two weeks? 2y
PurpleyPumpkin @Leniverse Sounds like a plan!👍🏽 So, start the June 17th weekend? If we give it 2 weeks, we could get it in by the end of the month. That'll boost my count. 😉This is great, thanks for suggesting it! 2y
Leniverse Oh yeah, the month ends on a Friday. Weekend start it is! 😃 2y
teebe He isn't Indigenous. He's admitted that he mislead people. And he's changed his story so many times it isn't believable anyway. He's described himself post-controversy as a "white kid with native roots." (edited) 2y
PurpleyPumpkin @teebe Interesting, I hadn't heard this. 2y
