I knew nothing about this going in and I loved it! A straight thriller with wonderful characters and great story. 5 ⭐ narration, very refreshing after the soulless narration by Franco on Dead Zone

Bookwormjillk I loved this one as a teen. I used to sit with my friend Amy trying to set things on fire with our minds for hours. It was the super power I most wanted to have when I was about 13. I still liked it on this re-read, but I thought the middle dragged a bit. Not a bad ending for King.

Also I think the first season of Stranger Things owes this book a lot!

AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk yes, I found it a similar premise to ST. I loved the story and characters. I found it quite gripping in places. 4d

5feet.of.fury @Bookwormjillk yes! I thought it ended solidly, which he sometimes just doesn‘t do lol Agree about Stranger Things too. 4d
5feet.of.fury It‘s kind of smack between Carrie and The Institute both plotwise and character/scifi focussed. This was my first read of it, I just think it‘s neat 4d
ElizaMarie Wasn't able to re-read this one - I really need to organize my reading room - I know I had a copy of it somewhere! Anyway, I remember loving this one when I first read it, and as a fellow #KingGirlie I did the same @BookwormJillK 4d
bekakins Totally agree with the comments ref ST. This is one of my absolute favourites. 4d
kwmg40 Still waiting for a library loan, but I will get to this one eventually! 3d
TieDyeDude @5feet.of.fury I found I liked this more than Carrie. I don't remember The Institute enough to compare. But, yes, it was just really neat. As much as I love when he takes the time to build a town and it's inhabitants, with this and The Shining, I'm liking his more narrowly focused stories. 17h
5feet.of.fury @TieDyeDude the Institute was pretty much Stranger Things and you got the backstory on the whole town 😂 17h
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude 💯 they both have their pros and cons. This is one of my faves for sure 17h

Read for #losersclub @BarkingMadRead
An iconic King novel.
My first time reading this one, it was good. I thought it would be more like Carrie, but it has a wider reach as far as Charley‘s backstory and the conspiracy surrounding those that are seeking to stop/control her.

BarkingMadRead This one always gets me, it‘s so good and so scary 6d

This book had very ‘Stranger Things‘ vibes and that‘s why I wanted to read it. A secret compound where gifted children are kidnapped, held hostage and abused. What could go wrong? A screen adaptation is coming soon!

JanuarieTimewalker13 Omg, how I loved The Institute!!! I read it as soon as it came out…that‘s in my top 5 of Stephen King reads! 6d
