Duma Key: A Novel | Stephen King

#awesomeaugustreadathon progress post…. I never listed my goals, I was at a Book Lover‘s Con when this started! My goal was to finish a few of the books I‘ve been reading, and I just checked back and I‘ve finished five! Granted, I started a few of them at the beginning of the month, but two were started and finished during the time period! @Andrew65

Another from one of my favourite writers Stephen King. Also not a horror but an incredible story of the Christian revival tents and a travelling preacher with a supernatural twist. #alphabetgame. Also honourable mention for the classic Rebecca by Daphne du Maurice

EverydayImReading Apologies Du Maurier!! Autocorrect 🤦🏻‍♀️ 15h

BarkingMadRun I enjoyed this one. It‘s not typical King for sure, but it kept me interested the whole time, and I was so sad that it ended the way it did! 17h
ErinSueMreads I loved this one too!!! At first it was kind of meh but it really crept up on me. I was rooting for blaze by the end in a weird way. I enjoyed that it had a somewhat simpler plot too, it made his character writing shine. 7h
NikkiM5 Today was a travel day, so sorry for the late post. Blaze was excellent, I was into it right from start. I loved how the MC became attached to the baby; it caused some teary eye moments🥹. I always love MC and side character backstories, and as usual, King did not disappoint. 7h
NikkiM5 @ErinSueMreads I was rooting for him too lol. I didn‘t want his story to end the way it did but it became obvious it was going to end that way. 7h
BarkingMadRun @NikkiM5 @ErinSueMreads is it sad that I wished he got away with the baby? 🤣🤣🤣 7h
Addison_Reads @BarkingMadRun I knew it wasn't going to happen but I also wanted him to be able to get away with the baby. The connection King wrote between them made me at times forget that the baby didn't belong with him. I loved that about this book how I felt attached to the "bad" guy. 7h
ErinSueMreads I loved that the bad guy really wasn't even that bad of a guy 😂 @Addison_Reads 6h
ErinSueMreads @NikkiM5 & @BarkingMadRun I totally was thinking the same thing 😂😂😂 I'm like there is no way this kid would survive but I totally want him to keep him 6h

Pet Sematary | Stephen King

Thanks for the tag @Tera66

Pet Sematary is the P book my mind keeps going to. This was the second book I read by Stephen King. No matter how many times I read this, it‘s always just as scary as the first time.

A book you‘d recommend whose title starts with the featured letter.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘ve only read The Shining by him and it scared me!! 🖤😱 2d

The Talisman: A Novel | Stephen King, Peter Straub

Mehso-so

I really don‘t know what to say about this book. I love King‘s multiverse, the idea of the thin spots between worlds, the idea of ‘flipping‘, they‘re cool concepts and great storytelling devices. I think where The Talisman falls the most flat for me, is it spends too much time in ‘our world.‘ I kept wanting to see more of the Territories. King and Straub could have done so much more with this concept but they dawdle too much on trivial scenes.

This is a book that I read when it first came out. It was the first (and only) book that ever truly scared me. If someone had come up behind me while I was reading this book and tapped me on the shoulder I‘d have probably had a heart attack. ❤️❤️👑

Pickpick

Whilst this was an enjoyable read featuring all my favourite ka-tet, it was a chunk of a book that possibly didn‘t need to be as long. That being said, King is known for his epic tome‘s and it‘s not really wasted space - it all adds to the journey that is the masterpiece of the dark tower series.

Glad I finally managed to finish it, however I‘m still excited for the next instalment. May it do ya fine.

King is a master crafter of creating coming of age children who you become deeply invested in. He does this in nearly every book I‘ve read of his, and it marvels me that an adult can so vividly remember and perfectly capture the feelings and emotions that are felt as a child.

This story within a story within a story was fast paced and compelling. I am in no rush to get to the Dark Tower, I am enjoying the journey far too much!
