I found it difficult to get in to this one but as it was fairly short, I saw it through to the end. As with a lot of the YA books I've been reading lately, I really enjoyed the premise but the writing style was a little flimsy. Saying that, I'll read the next one.

Probably not a fair review, as i didnt read the whole thing as I just couldn't get on with it. I really hated the crossover between fae lands and the modern world, it just takes away the magic for me that I love about fantasy books.

A good second instalment but I actually enjoyed the first book more than this one. Wildcard felt a little flat in certain areas and I felt that the main character lost a bit of her edge here but I did love the VR world building.

I quite enjoyed this one, there were just a few niggles that didn't make it quite as amazing as I wanted it to be. I'm interested to read the second instalment to see if it takes it up a notch. I think what's missing from it is a bit of grit. The main character has been through a traumatic event and I don't quite feel empathetic enough towards her yet.

This was a good little quick read. I liked the premise of the book but there were just a couple of parts that didn't quite sit well with me, mainly the whole idea of the town just accepting teenage boys die every year and no-one moving away or anything. I also found the *twist* predictable, but overall, a nice little book.

Like the first 2, this is quite mediocre for me but I don't know if I'm being unfair, as this is written for young people after all. I'm reading on because I enjoy the premise of the story and I'd like to see how it ends. I just find the chapters too short and the writing structure a bit tame.

Oh my goodness what a rollercoaster this whole series has been! I am madly in love with ALL of the characters, which is such a rarity for a book! The writing is beautiful, the characters are complex. This has definitely made it in to my top 5 book series. The ONLY negative I have is that there was a bit too much sex for me, it just felt unnecessary in some parts.

Amazing second instalment! The development of characters in this one was incredible and I absolutely LOVED how the characters weren't what you expected them to be. I really related to the development of Feyre and I'm am so psyched for the final instalment!

Oh my goodness this was such a great read! I whizzed through this eager to get to the end. It has an exciting plot, complex characters and a very real and relatable sense of awareness of how the world is technologically evolving. A fun read and looking forward to the next instalment.

Very disappointed with yet another Karin Slaughter book. The last couple have gone very downhill. The writing style has become fickle and the plots are predictable. I did not like the characters at all in this one either, there was just nothing relatable at all.

TheCuriousHousecat Agree. Though I haven‘t read others of her this turns me off bothering. 5y
StarsBish @TheCuriousHousecat I've been a dedicated fan for many years and her early books are fantastic. I really enjoyed them all up to and including Pretty Girls. Went downhill after that sadly. 5y

I think the best word for this book is "Pleasant". It wasn't overly exciting, there was not really any drama or anything that had me scrambling to read more, yet it was just a pleasant little read and easy to get through. Since Henry's 'Alice', I thought her stories would take on the same macabre nature, so a little disappointing to that effect but overall, good if you want a light and quick read.

This was much more interesting than the first book; a lot more character and story development. The writing style I still find simplistic and the chapters are incredibly short, so maybe aimed at the very young side of 'YA fiction'. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading this and look forward to the final instalment. I'm currently on team Mirabella!

This is a wonderful premise for a book but it just falls short for me of that amazing storytelling that would really enhance it. Interesting characters and concepts but the writing is very short and matter-of-fact rather than descriptive. Saying that, it's hooked me enough that I want to read the next book.

Little disappointed in this much anticipated finale. It took me a little while to get in to this, which I haven't felt with the rest of the series. It picked up around halfway through; the first half felt tame, a lot of filler and talking, little action. The ending felt lazy and rushed and I hoped for something more dramatic. I was particularly disappointed in Maven's death, I wanted to feel his pain but it felt brushed away.

Wow, just wow. This has been one of the most incredible dual-series I've ever read and has easily taken the top spot in my YA favourites. The suspense, the characters, the world they live in, has been so artfully created and is unlike any other YA I've read. This series has inspired my own writing and I hope to be this good one day 🧡

I've fallen in love with this story and I cannot wait to get the next book. The characters are complex and unpredictable and the world they live in is gritty. It's different from your usual YA dystopian-esque story, being set in a fictitious version of Amsterdam. Definitely take a moment to read the authors notes at the end too.

Certainly an interesting read and I do enjoy the expression of beliefs that align with my own but I was just expecting more. I do tend to associate fiction with dramatic and unexpected endings and while it was great, it was just very logical. I didn't have that enjoyable feeling of surprise, it was more "Oh Ok, that makes sense". Overall a good read but I wouldn't say invest your time in it if you're expecting a shocking end.

About a quarter of a way in to this and it's so exciting! I went through last week without reading a single page of a book as I've been focusing so much on my writing, so I'm feeling really at peace to be getting stuck in to a good book. My fiance ordered me to read this as he needed someone to talk about it with 😅

I really did not enjoy this book. Every other sentence was a nonsensical comparison. "As sad as fresh cut wood", for example. Nothing felt magical about this. The identity of Caraval seemed confused and random. I couldn't picture the characters in my head and every step they took felt totally predictable. I'm so disappointed as I was really excited to read this. There is a sequel coming out which I certainly will not be picking up.

Finally finished! This took me a long time to read but only because it kept blowing my mind that I had to read it in shorter intervals than I normally would. This is unlike any book I've ever read. It is the smartest piece of science fiction writing I've come across to date. I'll be keeping this on my shelf, ready and willing to lend to anyone who is ready to take on the challenge. 💚

3.5/5 I loved this final instalment, for the most part, but I felt disappointed towards the end. Firstly, Finnick deserved better, his death felt so emotionless and quick. Secondly the ending and epilogue felt so tame when there was so much pain in the build up. I wanted everyone else's feelings acknowledged but it shoved everyone else away and focused on a sunset ending for Katniss, literally and figuratively.

Could have made a really interesting premise but I found the whole thing very flat. The characters really lacked depth and won't stay with me. You find out at the beginning how the story ends and although it didn't exactly end with it, the additional 'twists' felt rushed and predictable. Definitely left room for a follow up book but I wouldn't pick it up. Also, what's with all the movie references?

Still trying to decide how I feel on this. Any Peter Pan re-telling is ok with me but definitely at the beginning the author seemed to be throwing in words that didn't fit with the tone of the story just to get some 'big' words in there. Good concept, could have been longer and had more detail to bring it up a notch.
