Making some progress on my #readingroadtrip

I really enjoyed Mudbound. The author did a wonderful job of transporting me the Mississippi Delta. Each character had a strong individual voice that really made this a page turner. An interesting look into the racial atmosphere of post WWII in the south.

PNWBookseller85 I love this idea! 6y

BiblioTori I think I‘m gonna do this now! And I don‘t know if you consider it a “WV” book or not, but The Glass Castle is fantastic. 6y
knittedgnome @BeckyMerilatt @BookwormM thanks! I think it's fun! 6y
knittedgnome @OnlyMeJustT that's awesome! I have one of the world too! I love tracking things. 6y
knittedgnome @OnlyMeJustT I really enjoyed The Glass Castle. I actually think I would count it for AZ and WV. 6y
celtichik @knittedgnome love this! 6y

A girl wakes up in a kidnapped-tortured situation and remembers nothing, not even who she is, and the mystery unfolds quickly. A perfectly acceptable thriller, even if it‘s a little too perfect at the end for my tastes.

I got this on sale on Audible a while back and used it today for my final book for the #readingroadtrip challenge. I read 28 books for 28 states over 3 months to finish in Oregon.😃

⭐️⭐️⭐️

LibrarianRyan This has been on my list for a while. Glad you liked it. 7y
ferskner Wow that trip sounds amazing! 7y
sprainedbrain @ferskner Yeah, it would be fun to take it for real, too! This was just reading a book set in each state (or with an author from that state) starting on the east coast and making our way to the west coast. I read lots of good books I probably wouldn‘t have otherwise! 7y

ferskner What a fantastic idea! Maybe when we all retire we can take these trips and meet all the Littens across the country. :) 7y
RadicalReader @sprainedbrain what‘s your all time favorite thriller suspense book? 6y

Winesburg, Ohio: Authoritative Text, Backgrounds and Contexts, Criticism | Sherwood Anderson, Charles E. Modlin, Ray Lewis White

Just beautiful. People-watching in Winesburg, Ohio. It's somewhere between a novel and short stories, as George Willard, the young newspaper reporter and son of the proprietors of new Willard House hotel runs across the town residents. We get told of their lives, so many of them trying to fit in or find ... something. And the writing is beautiful!

Thank you @TrishB ! This was one of my SummerSanta gifts, and I love it!

rockpools Also sneaking it in as no3 on my v short #readingroadtrip. And it was published in 1919, so a book published between 1900 and 1950 for #readharder. And #LetterW for #LitsyAtoZ. (edited) 7y
TrishB Glad you enjoyed it 😀 always nice when you pick a book! 7y

Well I finally made it to California on my #readingroadtrip! And I've got to say, this one did not disappoint!

I loved this book. It was heartbreaking, snarky and engrossing. It had a wonderful old Hollywood feel to it, but also managed to deal with some really important issues and topics as well. Evelyn Hugo was a queen 👸!

Good luck to everyone else finishing up their #readingroadtrip!

JenP You win for prettiest art related to the challenge 7y
rockpools 🎉🎉Congratulations! 🎉🎉You made it! 7y
Kamisha @JenP Haha, well thank you! I've been considering tracking my reading with a bullet journal, so it was good practice! 7y
Kamisha Thanks! 😁 @RachelO 7y

Another wonderful book that I probably wouldn't have read if it wasn't for my #readingroadtrip ❤️

This is a slow, beautiful story about several characters and their intersecting lives in rural Colorado. At times sad, funny, hopeful, and infuriating, with great writing and narration. Loved it, and I think I may look for more by Haruf.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Leelee.reads I recently read and loved Our Souls at Night. Saw several of his other books at the Planned Parenthood book sale and used self-restraint...waiting for this weekend when they are half price! 7y
sprainedbrain @Leelee.reads good to know... that may be my next book of his! Thank you 😊 7y

Finished this before going to sleep last night but couldn't take a pic in the dark. I know I'm late to the party but what a great read. Loved that it confronted our fear of discussing mortality and the blend of science, literature and philosophy was unique and beautiful, and the writing, whilst emotional, was also calming and reassuring.
My Arizona read for #readingroadtrip which means I'm in California and nearly finished my trip!
@JenP

Cathythoughts I really loved this book too. It's one I'll remember 💫 7y
JenP Yay! You're almost there! 7y
RaimeyGallant I think this book has the longest Litsy description I've ever seen. 7y

I know that here on Litsy I am among other #listlovers 😃

I make lists for everything and anything, but here are some of my current book-related lists. Each month, I make a list of potential books to read that month and check them off as I go. I've also got a list for the #readingroadtrip challenge that ends this month. Goodreads shelves list all of my reading challenges. Oh, and I've already started my October list. 😜

#fallintobooks

CocoReads Nice lists! 7y
batsy You're giving me #ListEnvy 😀 7y
Jinjer I live for lists. I enjoy making book lists as much as I love reading books. 7y
RaimeyGallant You're so organized! 7y

Silent Spring | Rachel Carson

Boy, was this ever a tough read.

Rachel Carson's writing is beautiful - few people can describe a parasitic wasp quite as wonderfully as RC - but here, she's angry, presenting case after case of pesticides-gone-bad, and exposing the dubious reasons for their use, despite the evidence. Towards the end, she looks at alternative biological controls. 👇

rockpools Obviously, this was pub'd in 1962, and at some point I'll read one of the 'update' books out there. And her biography, which I suspect will be 💔&😡. Very grateful this book exists, and that it changed the way we look at the natural world, but quite glad to have finished it! 7y
rockpools This is my #letterC for #litsyAtoZ and my second book for #readingroadtrip - RC was born and brought up in Pennsylvania. 7y

Jus finished my Arizona book for the #readingroadtrip! And finally moving on to California with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

High Tide in Tucson was a great collection of Kingsolver's essays. Thought provoking and covering a wide range of topics from biology and sociology to parenting and writing. Really enjoyed it!

rockpools I read this years ago and loved it! Congratulations on reaching California 😉 7y
Kamisha @RachelO Thanks! How is yours going? 7y
rockpools @Kamisha Probably best we don't talk about it! I'm hoping to get into Ohio before the end of the month 😐. Not my most successful challenge ever! 7y
Kamisha @RachelO Haha, no judgement here! If I hadn't taken the easiest route I could find, I definitely don't think I could've made it! 7y
