Sense and Sensibility | Jane Austen

#bookmail! S&S is my least favorite Austen, but I saw this #PenguinClassicsDeluxeEdition cover and had to have it. Yes, I have five copies of Persuasion already, but I don‘t have an annotated edition and I love this cover, too. I fear I will have to collect all of the annotated Austens. Persuasion | Jane Austen

Today was a good day for #bookmail and bookish mail. Yes, I already own four copies of Persuasion, including one #PenguinClassicsDeluxeEdition, but I didn‘t have *this* one. The rest are my #BNBookHaul from their big sale. I shopped online because I never felt good enough to go to the store. (Maybe this weekend...). And thanks for the #LitsyLove Misty!

Heart of Darkness | Joseph Conrad

Having a rotten day, so I went to my local #indie for some retail therapy. They messed up my preorder for the newest Orphan X (of course, because I canceled my Amazon order of it) but they had the #PenguinClassicsDeluxeEdition of Heart of Darkness that I‘ve been dying to get my hands on, plus a Nordic crime thriller that looks ah-may-zing. I‘m still sad, but now I have new books, so that‘s a plus, right? 🥰

Everything about this #PenguinClassicsDeluxeEdition is gorgeous, from the feel of the paper, down to the artwork on the French flaps. I‘ve finally finished the introduction and am ready to start my reread of this gorgeous novel. It‘s been 27 years since I read it last. #LesMisBuddyRead

LaLecture Are you reading the complete book or an abridged version? It was so hard to get an unabridged edition of this one in German. Mine has 1600 pages and I still don‘t dare to start reading it 😅. 1y

DGRachel @LaLecture Unabridged. Not including the endnotes, my copy has 1304 pages. We were assigned the abridged version in high school, but I read an unabridged version for extra credit. During class discussion, I remember answering the teacher‘s question, referring to my copy, and the whole class had this blank look. The details I had weren‘t in the abridged version. That was when I swore I‘d never read an abridged book again. You lose so much. 1y

LaLecture @DGRachel that‘s why I bought an unabridged version. I don‘t like the feeling of only knowing half the story. It‘s so cool that you read such a huge book in school! (What adjective do you use for books with many pages? Big? Huge?) 1y

LaLecture I‘m thinking about joining the buddy read as it would be a great reason to finally start the book. But I‘m pretty sure I wouldn‘t manage to read the book in just one month :/. 1y

DGRachel @LaLecture I think I‘ve only managed to keep up with one buddy read ever. Start the book! Get as far as you can when you can. I think you‘ll be pleasantly surprised by how readable it is and how quickly you get through it, even though it‘s huge. I read the whole thing in a week in high school, it‘s that good. 1y
