Just wrote my final exam of the semester, and it was definitely my worst one yet 😅😅 Thankfully, I went into the exam with a 94%, so I‘m not letting myself get worked up over it. I now have a few weeks before my next semester starts up, and I can‘t wait to get my NERD on with some books. 😍😍😍

Richie Rich is probably the earliest comic book that I can ever remember very first reading. I always loved the adventures he went on. I was too little to care about his #money but man did I ever day dream about all his cool toys and gadgets.

For multiple reasons and circumstances, I only read four books this month. But the ones that I did read were helpful in distracting me from life and current events out of my control. Hopefully September will be a better month, both for reading and my mental health. 🤞

So many feels. I am spending this birthday sheltering in place for the fourth day straight. The flooding my area is experiencing from #harvey is heart breaking. So heartbreaking to watch the Texas rescues. It feels like we've learned nothing since Katrina except to use social media to ask for help, and to rely on volunteers to do the rescuing.

Captivatedbybooks Atleast this time more people left then when in Katrina but it's hard to prepare/predict the unpredictable. It's sooo guy wrenching. I feel hopeless im so far i would've loved to help 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Captivatedbybooks I hope it turns out to be true, that more people left than before Katrina, but I have a bad feeling we haven't seen the worst yet. And I've already seen the city buses lined up unused, and people saying they couldn't leave their pets which were all lessons I thought we had learned during Katrina, use every bus available to get everyone out, take people & their pets to prevent people from staying, etc. I'm afraid until there... Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...is some organized door to door effort, we won't really know how bad it really is. Especially since the people being rescued now are getting picked up because of their pleas on social media, or calling in live to CNN...most of those outlets aren't available to those without power or those youthful enough to be tech savvy. 7y

Captivatedbybooks @Riveted_Reader_Melissa one of my friends was rescued earlier today and was being evacuated again because of the flooding. Then another one said that the damns are filled so they were going to release them again tonight. They've been keeping us posted by fb live and its sooo devastating. All we can do is pray. They are asking people to please stay away n not try n drive there. Some friends from Dallas wanted to drive to Houston to pick them up 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Captivatedbybooks I'd tell them to go and pick them up anyway if they can. If they have the gas, etc. and if they have any water bottles or blankets take a load of those down and drop them off at a local shelter when they pick them up. I've heard that the shelters are filling up fast and also running out of supplies, so if they can get them out of the area I'd do it. It sounds bad I know, but I remember watching Katrina on TV, and.... (edited) 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...while they asked people to stay away so the official help could get through, people were left behind without food or water. If I was closer, I'd definitely be in my car driving to drop off any supplies I could round up and drive anyone out who had a place to go to. 7y
