A slow moving mystery. Some of the characters were a bit quirky. Very not earth-shattering story. I will read the second in the series to see how the novels are tied together. 4/5

Pickpick

I‘ve been aware of Australian novelist Toni Jordan since she came to a Perth writers festival many years ago, but have only now read one of her books.
Think I can once again blame @Rissreadswithcats for seeing this second hand copy and telling me I should buy it 😄. I enjoyed it. I was able to suspend judgement about some of the unlikely plot points and roll with it. More great #ozfiction, this time set in 1980s Brisbane.

CarolynM I liked it a lot and this one too 4w

The pic is the book I read that‘s not in our system yet. The Doxie is named Duke & Duke wears a bow tie

The series features a detail-oriented wedding planner that comes back to her hometown Carlyle Cove, Maine to help her elderly aunt run her cafe. Their regular coffee drinker is retired detective Elinor Brooks & her detective emeritus Duke. The upcoming first in series is The Polaroid Murder by Vivian Keyes. You can catch the ARC on Booksprout.

Everything I like in a cozy mystery. Amateur female sleuth, police detective boyfriend, likable supporting characters, small town setting, and a mystery that I can‘t figure out. I‘ll read more of this series. 4⭐️

This was my April pick for #ThematicCozies #Sport, and also my #BookSpin #DoubleSpin

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! Also - I got Indiscretion in the mail yesterday!!! Thank you so much for sending it back, I genuinely forgot you had it 😂 But in fairness I've had The Smile of a Stranger for so long that I literally don't remember who is supposed to get it next! 😂 😂 😂 6mo
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks 🤣🤣 Once the structure of #LMPBC disappeared, we dissolved into chaos! 🤪🫠😂 6mo
mhillis I ended up reading this one too!! I agree — it was really good 😊 5mo

I struggled a bit with the April #Sport prompt for #ThematicCozies, as I‘m not a “sporty” person. But I‘m looking forward to reading this one. In addition to being a runner, the main character also owns a book store. 😉

What will everyone else be reading?

Librarybelle I just picked mine! This one was a little hard, which is good, but I was thrilled there is a Murder, She Wrote title that goes with it: 6mo
Graciouswarriorlibrarian This is my April pick. The Mystery of the Missing Crystal Golf Ball by Jessa Archer. 6mo

Crinoline_Laphroaig Roller skating witch cozy and it's only 90 pages long! Perfect since I'm busy this month. 6mo
julieclair Tagging @BethM … sorry I skipped you in the original tag list. 🙄 6mo
julieclair @Crinoline_Laphroaig A roller skating witch… that‘s an unusual one! 😆🛼🧙‍♀️ Enjoy! 6mo
julieclair @Graciouswarriorprincess I considered that one too, as it sounded fun. Looking forward to your review! 6mo
julieclair @BarkingMadRead Fun! I wonder if it will include recipes? 6mo
julieclair @Librarybelle I struggled a bit with this prompt, too. I love that you found a Murder She Wrote tie in! 6mo

This was a pretty good mystery, right up until the end. I just didn‘t buy the way it wrapped up, with the guilty seeming to have little motive and some things never really explained. The “Scottish-isms” felt forced and awkward rather than charming. But the characters were somewhat engaging and the setting was beautiful. Probably won‘t read another in the series tho.

The husband picked this out for me by his own self, so I shall love it no matter what it‘s like. But it looks cute and cozy and just the thing for a chilly winter holiday🙂
