In addition to the books I‘m actually able to read during the #transrightsreadathon my #TBR is exploding with new selections I‘m super excited about! Some of which I‘m continuing next week and some of which are for later in the year. What are you all planning to read? #transrightsarehumanrights

#TransRightsReadathon Book 7

Engrossing and affirming. I cried happy tears!

#transrightsmatter #transrightsarehumanrights #middlegrademarch

IndoorDame The ghost story aspect of this was fun, but for me the magic of this novel was that it challenges the prevailing narrative of trans kids knowing who they are from incredibly early ages. I think it will be vitally important to the next generation of children to see a multiplicity of perspectives on discovering one‘s own gender identity.

TheBookHippie Seriously it‘s so good. 13mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie I want to see this one in every middle school library!!! 13mo

TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I agree. Going to try to do that here 👀. 13mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie awesome! Thank you 🙏 I hope you don‘t hit any unpleasant stumbling blocks 13mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame HA. Yes. I expect it. Thankfully I‘m at the point that the students I mentor in reading benchmark, and didn‘t benchmark before -so when I put a book in the library, they just write Miss Christine recommends… and kids pick it up. The peeps that would protest the book won‘t read it just because I am associated with it.. that weird liberal reading lady.. 👀🙄😵‍💫 13mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame also I PAY and donate it. I didn‘t use their previous tax money. It‘s a loop hole that‘s worked thus far. 13mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie haha I wish we could install a weird liberal reading lady in every school! 13mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I‘ve been told that. I‘m in title one schools so I don‘t generally have too many issues. I did do one classroom at the public Montessori school, but it was way too problematic and I gave it up. 13mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie that‘s sad. But you can‘t be everywhere and the title one schools need you more, so maybe it‘s for the best… 13mo

The Deep | Rivers Solomon

#TransRightsReadathon Day 3

Rivers Solomon is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! The Deep is at once devastating and beautiful, as you might expect if you‘ve read anything else of theirs. It is mythic and visceral. Even though it‘s short, it contains a full and rich world. I couldn‘t read this at anything close to my normal reading speed, it demanded and deserved time.

ChaoticMissAdventures Have you listened to the companion song by Daveed Diggs band Clppng? It is on YouTube. It is a vibe but I think interesting to listen to during or after reading the book. 13mo
IndoorDame @ChaoticMissAdventures Yes! So cool to hear the Clipping song and the Drexciya album! I couldn‘t concentrate on the story while listening (I did try) but I loved that in the afterword Diggs described all 3 as primary sources about this world. 13mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie Yes! So many layers! I expect I‘ll be thinking about this for a long time! 13mo
TheBookHippie @ChaoticMissAdventures I did that too and agree! 13mo

#TransRightsReadathon Book 5 The writing style wasn‘t my favorite, but the art was great! There were a handful of full page black and white panels scattered throughout that were sublime, and it was worth reading this just for those. And I loved seeing an honest representation of sex work. That‘s a community that‘s grossly underrepresented in media, and usually either romanticized or demonized when it is portrayed. #transrightsarehumanrights

#TransRightsReadathon Book 3. These poems by Kayleb Rae Candrilli were devastating and heartwarming by turns, and occasionally both at the same time. I want to read everything they‘ve written! #transrightsmatter #transrightsarehumanrights

#TransRightsReadathon book 2. YA fiction by Kai Cheng Thom. This was raucous, angry, and in your face, but also bubbly, charming, and cheerful. Basically everything the cover art and title promise it delivers. I really enjoyed the sporadic hints of magical realism that served to highlight the importance of truth over fact and challenge the traditional idea of a trans memoir. #transrightsmatter #transrightsarehumanrights

Moonflower | Kacen Callender

#TransRightsReadathon Day 1
Moonflower by Kacen Callender was the perfect book to kick off the readathon with! So many authors shy away from writing nuanced stories about suicidal ideation for young readers or with young characters, but Callender completely embraced the darkness that they struggled with as a child while still managing to write a life affirming story.

IndoorDame My favorite thing about this was that it wasn‘t at all one note. I think everyone will find something in this story to draw them in. The thread I personally found most compelling was the idea that in each lifetime we all choose our births based on the lessons we need to learn. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 13mo
IndoorDame This is a piece of Buddhist philosophy that I‘ve struggled with greatly in my own life. I found it extremely confronting at the times when I was the most unhappy, and I still haven‘t made peace with it. But the book presented it in a light that has me thinking about it again, and for that reason I know this story will stick with me.

Shown: Carl and his wife, Lynette.

I loved this book. I felt joy for him in some moments, and heart break in others. This is the story of Carl. He transitioned during the Trump years, during the time of ‘#metoo‘. He transitioned at 50 years old, experienced both misogyny and privilege; lost who he thought were friends, and discovered how strong his marriage really was. Highly recommend. Also recommend: stand up for your trans friends and

JenniferEgnor family. Hug them, tell them you love them. Don‘t wait. #transrightsarehumanrights #intersectionalfeminismistheonlyfeminism 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🖤🤎 (edited) 13mo

I haven‘t been around much on here lately. A lot is going on in my personal life. But I wanted to take a minute & share my family. My cousin, Jamie, & her husband Chris (a Lutheran Pastor), their daughter, Rebekah, have been doubling down on their advocacy for #LetKidsPlay & fighting Anti-Trans bills all over the country. Today, they spoke before the steps of the Capitol, defending trans kids. I am so proud of them. #Transrightsarehumanrights

JenniferEgnor I‘m so glad to see them doing this. Hard to believe the bullshit that is happening right now in this country. Trans folx are amazing and I‘m honored to have them in my life. Why can they not be seen as human and worthy of love and happiness as anyone else? This is madness. 13mo
AmyG The world needs more people like them. It is madness. We‘ve seen this hate before in Hitler‘s Germany and it‘s frightening. 13mo
Clare-Dragonfly That‘s wonderful. Thank them for standing up for trans kids. I hate so much that it needs to be done. 13mo

This is a disgusting disgrace. She is clearly takes doubling down on her transphobia to a whole new level. #transrightsarehumanrights

jessinikkip Oh Lord... I dont even know what to do with this woman... Like at this point, I dont even want to keep the HP books that got me through school. How can she be so dang ignorant? 4y
bookishbitch @jessinikkip I know. I have a HP tattoo and quite a large collection. I will never spend another cent on HP mech again. It astounds me how someone who writes with empathy can lack so much of it herself. And she is not the only author who has done it but this decision on her part is just mind boggling to me. 4y
Darklunarose She has utter hatred for trans folks. It‘s for this reason we stopped supporting her in any way shape or form a couple of years ago. Now she is showing her TERFy self loud and clear I hope others will realise what a danger she is. 4y

bookishbitch @Darklunarose I admit I only heard about her BS views this year. I'm educating people as I learn. This latest move erases all doubt about her true views I'd say. 4y
Darklunarose @bookishbitch it‘s so important to educated (I actually posted about this on my FB this morning). I think I heard whispers maybe 5 years ago and it‘s been snowballing since. I have a trans loved one and they were such a fan and it broke them to know how she felt about people like them. Luckily there are many better uk crime writers out there (and fantasy too) 4y
WomanistBibliophile Men committing murder is not the fault of women, is not the consequence of women writing or speaking. And also in the real world men murder women, some of those murderers are autogynephiles, there‘s nothing hateful in taking note of that. More women‘s lives could be saved if society took better note of male pattern violence 4y
