"Neurodivergence is not purely created by capitalism...but the way it manifests today is shaped by the demands and pressures of this system.
Traits like hyperfocus, pattern recognition, and creative thinking can help people resist the nonsense of capitalism. Yet capitalism only values these traits when they increase productivity.
The fight against capitalism must also be a fight for neurodivergent liberation." ✊♾️

Bookwomble I found this great blog post by Heather ingersdóttir: Neurodivergence, Trauma & Anti-Capitalism: What If You Were Never Broken?
"We don‘t need to fix our brains.
We need to fix the world that‘s crushing them."

quietlycuriouskate Next time I'm late getting the tea on because I lost all track of time, I'm reframing it as "resisting the nonsense of capitalism", a system which, I note, does not value such acts of service anyway as they don't make money. 6d
Bookwomble @quietlycuriouskate I still blame Thatcher on a regular basis: seems valid! 😄 It's the stress of living under the artificialities of capitalism that causes burnout. And, no, if it can't be monetised, those parts of our lives aren't valued beyond the element of physical maintenance required for obligatory work. 6d
bibliothecarivs Very interesting idea. Thanks for sharing. 5d

Back from Manchester Trans Pride March a little tired and much inspired! #TransRightsAreHumanRights ✊?️‍⚧️

#SocialistStandard #1452 was waiting on the door mat, speaking of which, Kier Starmer makes the cover following his meetings with ??
Obvs, the SPGB aren't fans of Labour, and this issue sets out what they're getting wrong (equally obvs, not dismantling capitalism!).
The "Capitalism is Mental" article looks like it might be interesting.

"Israel, the US's rogue proxy in the Middle East with it's own agenda, initiated the current East by attacking Iran with the declared aim of physically preventing it acquiring the nuclear bomb."

Feels like #1451 of the #SocialistStandard is going to be heavy! ?

"Commiserations to you job-seekers out there who fancied themselves as Chief Executive Officer of the international corporation RCC Inc. The position has been filled. There were 135 internal candidates vying to fulfil it with an external individual, Trump, suggesting that he should get the job because he was already running America and as the job involved a one-day week, Sundays, it would be a doddle to do.

⬇️

Bookwomble Note, it was not made clear in the job spec whether megalomania was an essential prerequisite.“ 😅 (edited) 2mo

#SocialistStandard April 2025 had a cover story about Little Trump (a name that fits Nige on several levels 🍑💨), which looks at his pernicious political presence, offering a hopeful analysis that his dream (threat?) of becoming the next UK PM is unlikely to happen🤞
Other articles include a stirring call for solidarity with trans people, a slightly snotty reply to a critical letter, a continuation of the series on socialist fundamentals, & a ⬇️

Bookwomble ... terrifying look at scam farms run with enslaved people and the practice of "pig butchering" their victims.
I am learning that when the Standard asks the question "What to do about...?", the answer is always "end capitalism" (oops, spoiler alert! ?).

#TransRightsReadathon
“Digital Book Burnings in Trump's America:
Attacks on marginalised groups are likely an early indication of rising authoritarianism. A century ago, the Nazi party of Germany targeted transgender people & the scientists who were pioneers of sexual research, raiding Magnus Hirschfeld‘s Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, one of the world‘s first centres dedicated to the study and care of queer and trans people. The Nazi Party ⬇️

Bookwomble raided the clinic, terrorised the workers, and burned thousands of books, papers and research materials in a public spectacle of hate that foreshadowed the grim horrors to come. Now, today, a modern version of this erasure is also underway. This time, the flames are in the form of a trash folder, as it is a digital erasure, and this horror is unfolding in the United States under the directorship of Donald Trump.“ (edited) 4mo
Bookwomble Going on to describe Trump as “the Marmalade Mussolini“ gave me a laugh in a relatively grim #SocialistStandard article about Republican transphobia, and a call for socialist allyship for trans and other lgbtqia+ people ✊🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🚩 (edited) 4mo
Jari-chan Marmalade Mussolini 🤣🏳️‍⚧️💖💪 4mo

Bookwomble @Jari-chan I know, right! 😄 4mo
Bookwomble Interest piqued the "Marmalade Mussolini" tag, I found a serious comparison between Trump and El Duce in this 2017 article by professor of history, Mark Bickard: https://www.historynewsnetwork.org/article/the-scary-parallels-between-trump-and... 4mo
TheBookHippie Cheeto Satan to me 🤣 and yes I‘ve screamed about this history since 2014. 😵‍💫 4mo
Bookwomble From Prof. Bickard's article:
“The attacks on central institutions of American democracy as “enemies of the people” has a horrible and horribly dangerous historical background. Trump may (or may not) be too ignorant to know of that background, but his inner circle most certainly knows of it, and intends it in full.“

TieDyeDude Larry Wilmore likes to refer to him as the “Tangerine Idi Amin“ 4mo

GingerAntics This is truly terrifying. What is more terrifying is the people okay with this, that just don‘t see the parallels. 4mo
GingerAntics @CarolynM as a historian, I feel like I‘m shouting into the void sometimes, just trying to get people to wake up! I‘m just so tired. 4mo
GingerAntics @Bookwomble that‘s the thing. It‘s 100% intentional. People saying stupid things like it‘s just coincidental or it just looks that way are just so entirely out of touch. 4mo
Bookwomble @TheBookHippie I feel the name Cheeto Satan is too harsh - on Cheetos! 😄 4mo
Bookwomble @GingerAntics It's hard to understand people's lack of recognition of what he is. It is tiring living through such times. I hope you get times where you can switch off and tune out for a while to test and recover ❤️‍🩹🫂 4mo

I have nothing to say about the cover story that can't be expressed by ?‍??
Other stories dip into AI panic amongst the super rich and tech bros; tariffs and the likely unintended consequences of ?'s "plan"; Taiwan, China and the West; the fundamentally pro-social nature of humans; musings about the concept of money, and; the socialist lessons to be learnt by reflecting upon road rage!

"On 20 January Donald Trump officially became president of the United States, much to the consternation of almost 50 percent of the US electorate, and many others around the world."

Bookwomble February 2025's #SocialistStandard includes articles on climate change and regreening projects, the murder of Brian Thompson, socialist ideas on the internet, poverty and homelessness, the Irish general election, 'human nature' arguments against socialism, consumerism, sport and capitalism, and veganism.

"When the brutal 50-year tyranny of the Assad dynasty collapsed last month, people danced in the streets in many parts of Syria as they contemplated an unprecedented new beginning."
#FirstLineFridays @ShyBookOwl

#SocialistStandard issue 1445, has an editorial about the regime change in Syria, a main article about how tech companies leverage political power, continues its series of essays about socialism based on an address by William Morris, ⬇️

Bookwomble ... examines the social structures behind the incidence of celebrity abusers, and has a Marxist critique of the 1947 classic Christmas film, “Miracle on 34th Street“. Great fun!

"So the 'isolationist' section of the ruling class has won control of political power in the United States." - Editorial: "Trump Triumphs"

#SocialistStandard #1444 examines Trump's election win, the cover story being about climate change, the catastrophic floods in Spain, and the likely impact of the POTUS Elect's denialism.
Also included, the fourth part of an analysis of a speech by William Morris; a rather ⬇️

Bookwomble ... sneery, supercilious article on religions, the content of which I'm broadly in agreement with, the tone of which I found condescending and grating; articles on poverty and taxation; whether capitalism was historical inevitable, and; a review of an investigation by Hope Not Hate into big business funding of far right groups and alt-right "research" into "race science". Rounded off with some reviews of books I won't read, and a Marxist view ⬇️ 8mo
Bookwomble ... of long-running radio soap opera, The Archers! 🚜
