For every book by a trans author I read for #transrightsreadathon I donated $20. I meant to read five, but a flare-up slowed me down.
I was happy to see some members here participating!
It is terrifying out there, so if you have the means, please consider donating to the Trans Health Legal Fund: https://transgenderlawcenter.org/thlf-donate
#TransRightsReadathon book 2! This Rebel Heart is a queer, Jewish, magical realist retelling of the student-led Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and a rumination on complicity, activism, & love of country, with golems, magic rivers, and polyamory with the Angel of Death. There were pacing issues for me, but I‘m glad this unlikely book exists & that I got to learn, in such an immersive way, about an important historical event I hadn‘t heard of before.
Giant robots. Giant monsters. A society built on the subjugation of women. And Wu Zetian is going to burn it all to the ground.
A fun take on a historical Chinese figure, with an intriguing sci-fi setting & epic battles. But too fast paced. I didn‘t feel like there was time to breathe, and it felt like nothing (character development, relationships, world building) got the time it deserved. And the ending felt rushed & like sequel bait. 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
#TransRightsReadathon Book 5
I picked up this debut memoir bc I follow Sawyer on insta and wanted to learn more about their story. It was so honest and emotional. They talk about their journey growing up, coming out, & feeling at home with their identity. I do think the overall message was powerful & will give hope to those struggling similarly. The writing was just a bit all over the place & could have used some editing to make things more clear.
I can't believe how fast the last few days flew by! These were my picks for the #transrightsreadathon. I had hoped to read more and I still will!
After Witchmark, Grace finds herself in the position of dealing with the aftermath. Too bad she also has to deal with a manipulative father, a faerie envoy, a tempting journalist, & the moral center of her country.
I adore the setting of these books. & Grace redeems herself for me. Charming characters, & lots of political intrigue. & a examination of radical change vs moderate steps. The ending left one major plot point undealt with. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Last day of the #TransRightsReadathon and I managed to finish 1 more book. Rivers Solomon is definitely going to be an autoread author for me from now on. I‘ve read 3 of their books now, all of which have been completely different, but equally imaginative, thought provoking, and affecting. #20in4 @Andrew65
In celebration of the #TransRightsReadathon, I'm highlighting openly trans and nonbinary authors this week. Want some unreasonably gorgeous comics in your life? Pick up Melanie Gillman! Their art is absolute eye candy, and the stories are excellent.
