KatieanneF I‘m not a part of this group, but the fourth book is truly incandescent. Hope everyone enjoys!! 🔮 12mo
Andrew65 I‘m also happy to go with the flow. As I have to go back to work next week I read a bit ahead 😔 so have already finished book 3. (edited) 12mo
BookwormAHN I'm good with what ever you guys decide. I usually listen on audible, so I usually finish fairly early. 12mo
Rudis I lost track somewhere in book three, and kinda gave up :( hope everyone enjoys the rest of the series though! 12mo
EadieB I‘m ok with going on with the next book. 12mo
BookwormM I don‘t mind either way 12mo
tonyahoswalt I'm fine with starting right away. But can wait if majority wants to. 12mo
AnansiGirl I‘m fine with taking a break and starting Wizard of Glass in October. 12mo
Fortifiedbybooks I'm good either way 😁 12mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai I'm all for jumping right into the next one!! 🤸‍♂️ 12mo
Jovy I‘m also good either way! 12mo
MinDea Sounds like a resounding start right away! I started working on the schedule last night. It's a long book and lots of chapters. Going to take a while to get through it. I'll post the schedule for it soon. Thanks to everyone who weighed in! @Jovy @GrilledCheeseSamurai @Fortifiedbybooks @AnansiGirl @tonyahoswalt @BookwormM @EadieB @BookwormAHN @Andrew65 @TrishB 12mo

How's it going guys? Those of you who have been able to read along, how did you like this week's section?

#EpicKaTetRead #EpicBuddyRead #TheDarkTowerChapterAWeek #TheDarkTowerCAW

Hosted by @MinDea with assistance from @tonyahoswalt

BookwormAHN I'm about caught up and so far I'm enjoying this book much more than the previous two. 12mo
tonyahoswalt @BookwormAHN Me too! Anything really stand out for you so far? 12mo
See All 14 Comments
BookwormAHN I like Eddie and Jake channeling each other. 12mo
TK421 I'm about halfway through this section. Liking it so far. @BookwormAHN I like how Jake and Eddie are channeling each other too. 12mo
TrishB Will be starting next after current read and will catch up! 12mo
tonyahoswalt @BookwormAHN @TK421 I like Eddie and Jake's channeling as well. This section was a little haunting. I'll wait untill you guys finish though. 12mo
EadieB @tonyahoswalt I like that Eddie helped Jake come thru the door with the demons! 12mo
BookwormM I loved this section I liked the Dream Jake and the ghost Eddie and how past and present are connecting. 12mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai I haven't read this section yet but I'm looking forward to gulping it down tonight! 🤘 12mo
Jovy Loved everything about this chapter! From Eddie‘s inner struggles 💔 to Roland and Jake‘s touching reunion and even though I‘m not too fond of Detta, she was awesome here! 12mo
Andrew65 @BookwormM @Jovy Totally agree! Loved this crossover between worlds. Clear how central and important to things Jake is. 12mo
MinDea Thank you so much @tonyahoswalt for helping me with this! 💙I hope to catch up for the final discussion! @BookwormAHN I am so glad you are enjoying this book. This one really starts feeling like the rest of the series. 12mo
PaperbackPirate I‘m behind but I‘m still going. Just finished this section yesterday! Demon rape is a new one for me. I love that Eddie battled his own inner demon - the voice of his brother- to not only save Jake but come into his own being. What a scary haunted house! On I go! Choo choo! 🚂 10mo

Posting for @MinDea for a bit for our #EpicBuddyRead . How did everyone like the second section? Discussion in comments! If I've tagged anyone that has said they have stopped reading, I apologize.
#EpicKaTetRead #KaTet #TheDarkTower #TheDarkTowerChapterAWeek #TheDarkTowerCAW

bookandcat I'm so behind -_- I needed a break from King since I'm also doing Losers Club reading and there is a such thing for my brain as too much King...but I hope to try to catch up lol 12mo
tonyahoswalt What did you all think of hearing from Jake again? I'm curious about the second time things clicked for him. The first was when he was supposed to die. So the events in the second instance that he knew would happen, the beggar, the mirrors, etc. how did he know that? 12mo
See All 31 Comments
TrishB I‘m only starting later this week! 12mo
tonyahoswalt @bookandcat Understandable. Do you want me to take you off the tag list for the upcoming weeks, or keep tagging for when you catch up? 12mo
tonyahoswalt @TrishB No worries. Come back and discuss anytime! 12mo
BookwormAHN I haven't started yet. I needed to finish The Stand first. One King at a time 😸 12mo
tonyahoswalt @BookwormAHN Oh okay. Do you want me to take you off the tag list for upcoming weeks, or leave you on, so you can come back and discuss later? 12mo
BookwormAHN @tonyahoswalt You can leave me on, I'll catch up soon. 12mo
tonyahoswalt @BookwormAHN Okay, sounds good! 12mo
bookandcat @tonyahoswalt you can keep tagging me because it reminds me to get back to it 😂 12mo
TK421 I really enjoyed the Jake chapters. I thought it was interesting how both Roland and Jake were feeling pulled in two after Mort was killed. 12mo
EadieB @tonyahoswalt I just finished section II. In answer to your question, the only thing I can say is that the second time it said that he was under the umbrella of the ka-tet so that may be what was giving him the insight that he didn‘t have the first time. (edited) 12mo
tonyahoswalt @EadieB That makes sense! I read the sections all in one chunk and then it seems like I'm forgetting details. 12mo
tonyahoswalt @TK421 Me too! I think Jake is my favorite character. I like the connection between him and the other characters, I guess that's what the ka-tet is all about. 12mo
EadieB @tonyahoswalt I started the section after you posted your question so I was looking for the answer while I was reading. 12mo
Andrew65 Yey! Finally caught up - like trying to catch a runaway train. Great to see the return of Jake, and quite a bizarre return with Jake knowing he should be dead. Not always sure I know all that is going on, quite some story Stephen wrote - no wonder some people say they have to read it 2 or 3 three times to get everything. Love the train!!! 12mo
tonyahoswalt @Andrew65 It would definitely be weird to know you're supposed to be dead. I can understand why it was making him crazy. Are you liking this one more? 12mo
Andrew65 @tonyahoswalt Yes it definitely feels as if the first two were introducing the main characters and now the story is being taken forward, not that I know where it is going mind you! But still a great adventure. 12mo
tonyahoswalt @Andrew65 I really like it more as well. I feel like the writing is so much better, which makes sense. However, I was just talking to my husband about how, to me, it feels like there's barely a plot. Roland wants to get to the Tower, and Jake wants to get back to him. Other than that, it's about the connections between them all, I get that, but it feels like not a lot happens. @TK421 @EadieB 12mo
TK421 @tonyahoswalt I understand what you mean. I am really enjoying this book, but I know that a lot has to happen before the story can progress. I agree that the writing is much better in this book as well. 12mo
Jovy Finally caught up! 😅 I feel for Roland and Jake; can‘t imagine what I would do with constant voices fighting in my head! Also loved Jake‘s essay and his teacher‘s interpretation. 😂 12mo
Andrew65 @tonyahoswalt Totally agree, it does at this stage barely feel like there‘s a plot. It does seem very much about connections and relationships between the key people. @TK421 @EadieB 12mo
EadieB @Andrew65 I hope at the end we do get some idea what this is all about! @tonyahoswalt (edited) 12mo
Andrew65 @EadieB That would be good! 😂 @tonyahoswalt @TK421 12mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai Jake. ♥️ 12mo
tonyahoswalt @Andrew65 @EadieB @TK421 I guess that's why they talk so much about ka and the ka-tet, because it is about those connections. 12mo
tonyahoswalt @Jovy That essay! Oh my gosh! I thought he was a goner for sure, but the teacher loved it! 12mo
BookwormM I am still here had a hectic few days really enjoyed this section and I am intrigued by the Rose and the key can‘t wait for Jake to find Roland again 12mo
tonyahoswalt @BookwormM I really like Jake! I'm interested in learning more about the rose especially. My husband has given me teasers. 12mo

MinDea What did everyone think of this book? Did you enjoy it? Do you have a favorite character or scene that happened in this book? 13mo
MinDea Are you excited to start the third one in August? 13mo
Andrew65 Loved the whole section with Eddie Dean, the bit on the plane was full of tension. Can‘t wait to spend more time with Eddie. 13mo
See All 30 Comments
EadieB @MinDea I think the best scene is when Mort got cut in half by the train. 13mo
BookwormAHN I really enjoyed this one. I think Eddie is becoming one of my favorite characters. 13mo
TrishB I felt like the story really started to take off in this one. I loved the jumping between the two worlds. 13mo
Andrew65 @BookwormAHN Totally agree. 13mo
AmberWB This was definitely one of my favorites, although it did stress me out. 😊 13mo
BookwormM I really like Eddie not so sure about Detta/Odetta but I do like the way that these misfit characters have a unique and special destiny 13mo
TK421 I loved the Eddie section. That was one of the best gunfight scenes that I have ever read. 13mo
TK421 @EadieB I have to agree with you. Mort was awful. He tied a bit of the story together, but I was happy to see him go. After reading about Eddie, I expected The Pusher to be about drugs. 13mo
EadieB @TK421 I hated what Mort did to Jake and Susannah. 13mo
MinDea Mort totally deserved what he got. I loved how they all sort of tied together in their old "when" worlds. I hope Susannah grows on your guys! ? @EadieB @TK421 @BookwormM @AmberWB @Andrew65 @TrishB @BookwormAHN Eddie is a great character too! It is so hard for me to pick a favorite one. They all are so good and grow I to such amazing characters! ? 13mo
TrishB Without giving too much away, I love Susannah 💕 13mo
Andrew65 @BookwormM I also wasn‘t sure about Detta / Odetta, and as a result didn‘t enjoy that section as much. 13mo
Andrew65 @MinDea I am looking forward to reading the next book, and already have it downloaded. 13mo
Jovy I agree with everybody on Eddie‘s section! What struck me on this re-read was the almost insta-luv between Eddie and Odetta. Completely forgot that it unfolded like that. I also loved Roland in the gun and drug store scenes! Rolex for Keflex! 😂 13mo
MinDea @Jovy I didn't remember it going that way (so quickly) either! It was #ka! 💙 I loved the gun and drug store scenes too! 13mo
MinDea Awesome @Andrew65! I am all ready too! 13mo
MinDea @TrishB 💙 She is so good. I hope everyone else sees that too! 13mo
tonyahoswalt Eddie really grew on me. I look forward to hopefully liking Susannah as we get to know her, because I did not like Detta. Odetta was fine though. I know Mort was awful, but I think his section was my favorite. The connections really stuck out to me, and then yes, I was happy he got what he deserved. @EadieB @TK421 @BookwormM 13mo
MinDea When I was creating the schedule for the next book I was having fun remembering what is to come! I don't remember much of this book so it'll be a great re-read for me! @TrishB @Andrew65 @TK421 @tonyahoswalt @Jovy @EadieB @BookwormAHN @BookwormM @AmberWB 13mo
tonyahoswalt @Jovy I liked Eddie, but his instalove for Odetta was a little much. At least she she thought she could love him, but wasn't certain. 13mo
tonyahoswalt I'm looking forward to the next book 😄 13mo
MinDea @tonyahoswalt Yes his section is a great one and does shape this late a lot! I agree when reading it the second time and remembering how quick Eddie fell in love with Odetta/Detta seemed strange but it's #ka! 13mo
TrishB I‘ve found I remember the headlines- but not do much of the detail! Really enjoying it 😁 13mo
ScientistSam @EadieB @MinDea that was a great scene to be sure! It seems like there's a lot of injustice in this story/world. I also loved how Roland pays for the penicillin with a Rolex. 13mo
ScientistSam @Jovy! Yes, loved the Rolex for keflex and sharpshooting scenes! It amazes me how careful Roland is to avoid shooting Innocents after the whole scene with Jake's death in the last book. 13mo
MinDea @ScientistSam It is such an interesting character of Roland's to pay for the medicine and bullets and also not want Innocents to be hurt. I wonder if there is a sense of pride in the other "whens"? 13mo
trioxin_sematary @TrishB The Drawing of the Three is he real beginning of The Dark Tower story, that's why I always implore people who dislike The Gunslinger to carry on until at least the end of book 2. How are you liking it now? 13mo

BookwormAHN I'm enjoying it more. But it's really nuts and I don't think I'll ever look at a lobster the same way again. 1y

EadieB I‘m caught up and I definitely like it better than the first one. 1y
BookishBelle I‘ve got one more book to read before I can start this one. 😬 1y
TK421 I'm really enjoying this so far. Eddie is an interesting character. Once I have time to read in this book it is hard to stop. 1y
Rudis I keep falling behind! 😅 I‘m going to try & catch up this weekend though! 1y
tonyahoswalt I like it more than the first. It feels like it flows better. I was staying ahead a week, but I won't be able to read the next section until Wednesday. 1y
PaperbackPirate I‘m already enjoying it a lot more than the first book but I‘m a little behind. My next chapter is Contact & Landing. Thank you for hosting or I probably would have given up on the series already! 1y
GrilledCheeseSamurai I'm all caught up! Loving it. 👌 1y
ScientistSam Playing catch-up this afternoon! 1y
BookwormM Caught up definitely better than book 1 loving the characters and it is hard not to read on 1y
Jovy Caught up! Eddie's my favorite ka-tet ❤️ 1y
ScientistSam Caught up now! This one feels very different so far, much less spaghetti western, and I'm enjoying it more too. It's interesting to have more than one pov in this. 1y
TK421 That chapter had one of the most well written gun fights that I have ever read. 1y
MinDea Oh really? @TK421? That's awesome. I really enjoyed that scene. 1y

BookwormAHN Much better the second time around 💙 1y
collegecatlady I didn‘t enjoy this one too much and I figured I wouldn‘t after reading King‘s disclaimer in the front stating that he knows it‘s not all that great. However, I have read a bit ahead and enjoyed the second book immensely more! 1y
Rudis I‘m really glad I read this one with a group - otherwise I might not have stuck with it. I think, oddly enough, my favourite section was the last one - what about everyone else? 1y
See All 43 Comments
BookwormAHN @Rudis I definitely liked the last section best. The man in black is quite entertaining. 1y
Karkar This one is my least favorite of the series. But I kept at it the first time as many told me it sets up Roland for the rest of the books. I agree with @BookwormAHN much better the second time around. 1y
BookwormM First time reader I didn‘t love it and I didn‘t hate it I just found it weird that said I love the setup fit the next book, the Oracle and the Man in Black 1y
TrishB First time I read it I just trusted in SK that things would become clearer in the rest of the series! And they do. This is only the second time I‘ve read it - as I‘ve skipped it ever since. I don‘t dislike and can see the scene setting much more clearly now 👍🏻 1y
BookishBelle @Rudis I‘m also glad I read it with a group for the same reason and the last section was also my favorite. I also found that by the end I was more invested in the characters so I think that helped some too. I‘m ready to move on to the second one! 1y
MinDea @BookishBelle @Rudis @collegecatlady @BookwormM I understand your guy's sentiment. I definitely itely did not enjoy this book the first time I read it, but having read the entire series and re reading this one now I really loved it. I get the feeling of just not understanding what is going on. I hope the second book you come out of it liking this series a little more than when you finished this book. @TrishB @Karkar @BookwormAHN 1y
MinDea What do you all think of Roland and the Man in Black so far? 1y
Jovy This was my 3rd read and it really gets better each round. I read somewhere this would have been better as as a prequel and maybe read after a few books in. But I think it helped for the newbies to have read it with a group (so we can cheer you on!) My favorite is the flashbacks to Roland‘s youth. 1y
BillBlume This is one of the few books I‘ve reread many times in my life. I loved it the first time, and love it even more now that I have a greater appreciation for the writing. That opening sentence is one of the best, and it accomplishes so much in such a small space. I wish some of the later books had been written with the same efficiency. This book has inspired a lot of my writing. 1y
BookwormM I think Roland and the man in Black are very similar they are both willing to sacrifice others to get what they want. 1y
BillBlume @MinDea regarding Roland and the Man in Black, they very much strike me as embodiments of order and chaos (in that order). I‘ve always loved the anti-hero aspect of Roland. He‘s so determined to catch his foe, that he‘ll cross almost any line to get there. They‘re like “The Fugitive,” but on acid. 1y
tonyahoswalt @rudis I felt the same way, and agree, the last section was best for me too. 1y
tonyahoswalt @mindea I'm looking forward to learning more about the Man in Black (we do see him again, right?) I really got into his description of the tower/universe. 1y
Rudis @MinDea I like both of them; it was the curiosity of what would happen when they met that made me keep reading. Roland intrigued me, and so did the Man in Black, as I wanted to know how they became who they are. @BillBlume Ooooo, you have a very good point about the order & chaos! I hadn‘t realized that until you pointed it out. 1y
MinDea @BillBlume Yes. The juxtaposition of Roland and The Man in Black was always one of the best aspects of this series. I love these two characters. 1y
MinDea @tonyahoswalt Yes! You definitely do see him again. 😏 1y
BillBlume Just struck me that when I first read this book, I was just a teenager. I enjoyed Jake‘s character, because it was someone closer to my age in the story. I liked that he wasn‘t just a whiny kid. I reread this last year for the third or fourth time, and it‘s funny to realize that while I still like Jake, he‘s somewhat underdeveloped as a character. I have to wonder how much it‘s because it‘s Roland‘s point of view and he fears the attachment. (edited) 1y
MinDea @BillBlume I do think it might be that it is Roland's pov but also King was so young when he first wrote this book. I feel like you can really see King's writing changing throughout this series. 1y
TK421 I really enjoyed the Sergio Leone western feel of the first part of the book, and the flashbacks of Roland's younger days. It saddened me to see how little he seemed to care about saving Jake, but I have a feeling that he might turn up again. 1y
MinDea @TK421 I have never been much of a western fan but this series just blew me away! 1y
TK421 I love classic western movies, but I've only read a couple of western novels that I liked. This had the feel of a decent western. I still think Roland's fun time with the oracle will have repercussions later. 1y
Andrew65 I did struggle to get into the book in the first half, but really enjoyed the second half from about the time he met the Oracle. Shame what happened to Jake and I do hope we see him again @Tk421 . Intrigued by what happened at the end and interested to see where this is headed and the three. 1y
MinDea @Andrew65 was wondering where you were! I agree. Once Roland encountered the Oracle it really does seem to change and take off to start the story. 1y
MinDea Has anyone started the second book yet? I read the prologue last night. @Andrew65 @TK421 @tonyahoswalt @Rudis @BookishBelle @BookwormM @collegecatlady 1y
collegecatlady I actually couldn‘t help myself and devoured the second book in three days last week 🤫 1y
MinDea @collegecatlady I am so happy to hear that!!! Did you enjoy this one more than The Gunslinger? 1y
collegecatlady Very very much so! I thought that the Drawing of the Three was a five star book and I can‘t wait to read more in the series! 1y
TK421 I haven't started yet. I'm trying to finish two other books. I'll jump in as soon as I can. I really want to see how the story processes. 1y
MinDea @collegecatlady that's awesome! I am so glad you loved it! 1y
MinDea @TK421 totally understand! I have 2 other books I am trying to finish up too! 1y
BookishBelle I haven‘t started yet. I‘m trying to finish Neverwhere. I‘m excited to start it though!! 1y
Andrew65 @TK421 @Mindea I‘ve over committed 😳🙄 and have three Buddy Reads going on at the moment, The Alice Network, The American Marriage and the Sparrow, so not started it yet but have picked up a copy from the library - much bigger than the first book. 1y
MinDea 😆😆😆 @Andrew65 I have also over committed! I have this, the great library buddy read, the Alice Network, and another one I can't remember right now. #BlameItOnLitsy 1y
Andrew65 @MinDea Glad I‘m not alone! Most definitely #blameitonlitsy! 1y
BookwormM Will be starting tonight 👍👍 1y
Rudis I read up to the second chapter (page 40) in my book! Already like this one better. 1y
tonyahoswalt @MinDea I read the first week's section of the second book yesterday. I like it better, but I was wary for a bit. 1y
GrilledCheeseSamurai I missed this discussion...but hot damn did I have a zinger of a time re-reading. I'm starting the 2nd one right now and I have the excite! 🤗 1y
ScientistSam Coming late to this conversation but I echo the other first time readers' opinions, @rudis and @BookishBelle. Not my favorite book but it definitely seems to be setting up the next! I'm also really glad to have read it with buddies to keep me going! 1y
MinDea @ScientistSam I remember my first time read of this. One of the books I set down for over 6 months cause it was just long and felt tedious after a while! I wish I had had Litsy and all of you to help me keep going cause when I finally did finish the series I just loved it. I am glad that we are all able to read this together!! 💙 1y

I enjoyed this book so much more the second time around than the first time I read the series. I remember just thinking "What. The. F@$!. did I just read?!?!" MinDea I hope you guys do too. I know I did enjoy the second book a lot more than the first. @tonyahoswalt @BookishBelle Honestly when I first read this series I really didn't like The Gunslinger but as I read more books it grew on me and I understood it more. 1y

collegecatlady I read The Gunslinger recently but I hope to be jumping into the readalong for the second book! 1y
GrilledCheeseSamurai I actually really enjoyed this first book quite a bit this go around. A lot more then when I read it the first time anyways. It's pretty insane how small this story starts and how large it is when it finishes. I love that! 1y
MinDea @GrilledCheeseSamurai I so agree with you! It starts out with a crazy story at Tull and him just following the man in Black and then just takes off. So much happens and is said that really eludes to what is to come. I did not notice that the first time. This time I noticed so much! 1y
