🙇🏻‍♀️⬅️ Me realizing this book is not a standalone. I want to know what happens next; I don‘t want to read another book to find out.

This was a great concept with a diverse cast of characters, but I‘m not a big fan of Hank Green‘s writing style. I did like the blend of sci-fi w/ commentary on today‘s social media obsessed culture.

#pop19 : revolves around puzzle/game
Bk 4/6 #bookfitnesschallenge

OrangeMooseReads It took me a bit to get use to Hank‘s writing style it‘s so much different than John‘s. 1w
BarbaraTheBibliophage Way to double up your challenges! Sorry it wasn‘t so great ... 👊🏻📚♥️ 1w

RadicalReader @4thhouseontheleft what‘s the first book of this series? 1w
4thhouseontheleft @RadicalReader This is the first book, which ends on a cliffhanger. 😒 1w
4thhouseontheleft @OrangeMooseReads It is quite different from John's! It felt a bit repetitive to me, and I don't really feel he pulled off the blending of sci-fi with contemporary analysis of celebrity culture. @barbarathebibliophage Thanks! It wasn't bad, and I don't regret reading it, it just wasn't a solid 👍. Perfect book for this prompt, though! 1w
Cinfhen Great review.....so helpful to know it ends on a cliffhanger 😖hate that!!!! 1w
ravenlee I unabashedly look up synopses/spoilers when I don‘t want to continue a series but would like some resolution. I did that with The Hunger Games movies, because I hated the third one and refused to watch the fourth. From my research, I would have loathed the last one. 1w
Ashley_Nicoletto I loved this book. Was pretty irritated that it‘s a series and I didn‘t know. 🤣🤣 1w
BethM Killing your book goal! I hate unexpectedly finding out it‘s in a series. 1w
guinsgirlreads Awesome job on your book goal!! Woo 🥳! 7d

Tell Me No Lies | A V Geiger

Ugh. Geiger‘s books just aren‘t good. So so so so so cliche. Unlikeable and inconsistent characters. Shitty plots. Poor mental illness depiction. Blahhhhh. Not worth the time to read. #netgalley #booked2019 #socialmediafocus (Twitter is a big plot point 🤢) #bookishfitnesschallenge Netgalley book 1/2. ⭐️

Cinfhen Awww, that‘s too bad but you got the right prompt and challenge 😂😂😂 1w
BarbaraTheBibliophage Y‘know, even a free book can make you feel robbed. But, hey, the prompt is done!! 6d

Another little freebie I scored from my BookBub emails that also fits into my #booked2019 challenge! Using this for social media focus.
A YA novel about an internet-famous girl who has grown up through a family blog and vlog and begins to questions a lot of things concerning all of that. Secrets uncovered, interesting new boyfriend material appears. A typical, fun YA read!
@cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

Cinfhen Yay!!! Freebie and challenge prompt 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2w
kellyann28 @Cinfhen I wasnt totally sold on what I was going to read for this prompt before so when this appeared in my email I was excited! 2w
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Kathrin Here‘s another suggestion for #socialmediafocus. Don‘t forget to search the hashtag and see what you find! 2w

This book may seem exaggerated in its dystopian vision but is it really so? I look at our world and encounter uncomfortable similarities. #Booked2019 #SocialMediaFocus @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

Cinfhen It was a little too close for comfort but I hated how Eggers made the MC such a dishrag 😬 2w
LeticiaToraci @Cinfhen I think that the style of writing had a bit of magical realism to it, for example, when Mae met that old couple on the barge it was as if she was meeting her parents who were hiding after the circle was completed. Many thing seemed to be made intentionally for symbolic reasons, one of them being Mae's utter lack of consciousness. 2w
Cinfhen I honestly wasn‘t reading so intently... I missed a lot of those nuances😬 2w
LeticiaToraci When I like a book I usually have theories about it, if they are correct or the right way to interpret the book Idk, but I often imagine them. 😉 2w
LeticiaToraci The film finished very different from the book. I don't know if it was better, to me it seemed like a forced happy ending. 2w

I've been having a very productive reading week due to being sick- today was the first day I went outside since Tuesday! Read this for #booked2019 #socialmediafocus - the story centres around the Neurolink, a system used by almost everyone to communicate, purchase things, play games, and of course for social media!

Cinfhen Sorry you haven‘t been feeling well but yay for reading!!! I still need to read this book... I‘ve heard good things about it😁 2w
StephanieMarie @Cinfhen thanks, hopefully I'm better soon! It was a solid 4 star book for me 😊 2w

Not totally what I was expecting, but this was an amazing character portrait of a bizarre, unpleasant but empathic and recognisable person. I‘d call it a state of the nation novel but it‘s not about one nation, a state of the Internet novel? I rarely feel like novels get social media right, it‘s easy to feel lecturing or cringy, but I thought this really got it right. Instagram was probably my favourite character.

saresmoore Excellent review. I loved this book for just the reasons you mention. I feel like she nailed that dreamlike discomfort that social media brings to our lives. 2w
Cinfhen Here‘s another suggestion for #socialmediafocus @Kathrin #Booked2019 2w
Kathrin @Cinfhen This ones sounds good and it's available as audiobook on Scribd. Win win!! 2w
Cinfhen Oh good!! I‘ve seen good reviews. A few others have read it for #booked2019 @Kathrin 2w

It is already mid May and I feel like I am way behind on the Spring reading for #booked2019 ... HELP!!

I already know what I want to read for #cli-fi and #featuresmusician, but I am still completely clueless for #socialmediafocus and #foodbeveragecover. Any input you have is more than welcome!

RealLifeReading And I was considering reading this for social media 2w
Kathrin @RealLifeReading I have tried to read that one a while ago and bailed on it... But I think the problem was, that I first saw the movie and the book wasn't better. 2w
See All 23 Comments
Kathrin @RealLifeReading I keep this one in mind. For July @litsybookclub has Sourdough on the reading list, so technically it wouldn't fit into the Spring reading quarter, but I might pull it ahead and do “double duty“ with it.
😎 😎 😎 😎
(edited) 2w
LiteraryinLititz Have you read Sourdough? That was a quirky and fun read. 2w
Kathrin @LiteraryinLititz No, I have not... but I went make to some notes that I made earlier this year and Sourdough was a contender back then as well. 2w
Cinfhen Let me look through and see what others read and I‘ll share back with you!! For Food Or Beverage I read this memoir and LOVED it 2w
Cinfhen I wanted to read this one for SM but I couldn‘t find it overseas 2w
Kathrin @Cinfhen Oh, that one sounds good. I had this a little on the radar, but didn't connect it for the challenge. 2w
Kathrin @Cinfhen I havent' heard about the #metoo and Parkland books... Have to look into them. Thanks for the recommendations!! 2w
Cinfhen I alternated between book and audio for the Gabrielle Union book and both formats were fantastic 2w
tjwill For social media, I read and liked 2w
Kathrin @tjwill Thanks for the recommendation!! 2w
mhillis Last year I read this book with social media 2w
Kathrin @mhillis Thanks... I will look into this one! 🤓 🤓 🤓 2w
WanderingBookaneer @Cinfhen : I read Parkland and didn‘t even consider it for this prompt. If Parkland counts as Social Media Focus, I‘m done with Spring! 2w
Cinfhen Woohoo @WanderingBookaneer Way to go🙌🏻‼️🎉🎉 I‘m just tagging my cohosts so they now who‘s boss 😘😘 @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage 2w
Kathrin @WanderingBookaneer 👏👏👏👏👏 2w
4thhouseontheleft I‘m currently reading this one for social media focus and like it so far! 2w
BarbaraTheBibliophage For food / beverage, I‘d suggest also going back to books you‘ve read already this year. I just realized one I wasn‘t going to count for any challenges had some food on the cover. Which is awesome because I‘m super behind on my challenges! 2w
Kathrin @BarbaraTheBibliophage Yes, I agree... every now and then I find read books that fit challenges. 2w
Kathrin @4thhouseontheleft Do you like it? You are second person recommending it. 2w

Megabooks I was thinking about using The Circle for #booked2019 #socialmediafocus, but I can‘t decide since I haven‘t liked some of his other books. @Cinfhen Did you like it, Barbara? 2w
Cinfhen I did not like The Circle @Megabooks but others did. It didn‘t work as dystopian for me and I thought the MC was a dishrag!!!! 2w

Megabooks @Cinfhen That sounds like a Dave Eggers MC! 😂😂 2w
BarbaraBB @Megabooks I liked the first part, then it spun a bit out of control imo. But it has its strong points and describes a really possible (and scary) scenario for our future. I‘d give it a try if I were you! 2w

Mrs. Fletcher: A Novel | Tom Perrotta
post image

A book about the empty nester: Eve, a divorcee, needs to reinvent herself and her life after her only son leaves for college. Her first escape is the internet, where she Googles the word MILF and discovers a whole new, porn-based world. Luckily there‘s more to the book than that.
I liked the way Perrotta handles some of today‘s taboos but he should have made Eve a man - I really couldn‘t connect to her as a woman.

#Booked2019 #SocialMediaFocus

Cinfhen I soooooooo agree with your review!!!! I also felt like Eve was 💯written by a man...as a woman I didn‘t find her believable 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2w
TrishB Good to know 👍🏻 2w
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I hate it when that happens, women described as a male fantasy 😬 2w

BarbaraBB @TrishB I guess we won‘t meet in Madrid after all 😢! I am sooo in favour of Liverpool now, as you will understand 😉⚽️ 2w
TrishB Awww....I wasn‘t going to say anything because I always need a couple of days to get over such matches. We will find out next Thursday if we have tickets. 🤞🏻 2w
BarbaraBB @TrishB I hope you‘ll have them. That would be awesome for you!! 🍀 2w
Cinfhen Sorry @BarbaraBB about last night ~ watched with hubby 2w
Cinfhen 🤞🏼🤞🏼 @TrishB I was meant to be in Madrid May 19 - 25 but had to cancel our plans 😩hubby needs to be in states 2w
TrishB @Cinfhen aww...😔 we are in a ballot for tickets. Son says we have 16% chance of both getting one. Then we have to decide whether to go on our own if only one gets one. Charlotte has exam on the Monday so hasn‘t gone in the ballot so not to be tempted!! 2w
Susannah Too bad this isn‘t the Jessica Fletcher (Murder, She Wrote) origin story. That‘s a book I would read! 🤣 2w
BarbaraBB @Susannah haha, no, unfortunately not 😂 2w
Reggie I know I‘m a guy saying this but I saw her as a woman. Who due to empty nest and being a divorcée tried out new things. Had it been written by the common man she would have kept sleeping with the young guy. 2w
BarbaraBB @Reggie Lol 😀 you‘re probably right! 2w
readordierachel This was a so-so for me too. He writes well but...meh 2w
Megabooks I love Perrota‘s early stuff, but it seems like each book has been watered down. I feel the same way about Liane Moriarty. 2w
BarbaraBB @Megabooks He was a new to me author and I‘ve never read Moriarty, so there‘s a lot of me to read. I discovered these author‘s names here on Litsy, I guess they are not as well-known in Europe. 2w
Megabooks @BarbaraBB It‘s really interesting who is popular where! I feel lucky that a lot of books are translated to English, but unfortunately, we don‘t get a lot of them in my small town library. I have to seek them out online. If you find Election, The Abstinence Teacher, or The Leftovers by Perrotta, they‘re my favorites. If you come across Moriarty, I like The Husband‘s Secret, Big Little Lies, and What Alice Forgot! 2w
BarbaraBB @Megabooks Thank you for these recommendations, I will look into them! 😘 2w

This has been on my #TBR forever & I‘m so glad I finally read it! A modern retelling of P & P, set against the world of digital media. It‘s funny, light, & enjoyable. In this version, Lizzie Bennet starts a vlog series on YouTube as part of her graduate studies. Having so far lived a comfortable & somewhat sheltered life, through her vlog she learns things about her family, the world, her field, & of course herself. #booked2019 #socialmediafocus

Cinfhen I‘m really enjoying some of these modern retellings!! This one sounds cute 💕 3w
