post image

My #weeklyforecast this week is dedicated to #booked2019 📚 I‘ve made some progress on each of these reads this weekend:

Ohio #bookaboutaddiction
William, an Englishman #soldiersstory
The Water Dancer #PoCMCParanormal (which I am LOVING by the way, can't put it down!)

Thanks to our hosts for the bookish inspiration!! @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

EmilyM I just finished Water Dancer this afternoon.....loved it! I think I am going to now read Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad to follow it up. 2w
4thhouseontheleft I really want to read The Water Dancer! I‘m on hold for it at the library. 2w
Cathythoughts I nearly got the Water Dancer the other day 🤔... maybe I‘ll go back & get it 👍🏻❤️ 2w

emilyhaldi @EmilyM its reminding me so much of Underground Railroad!! I'm already loving it as much. Perhaps thats why I keep thinking you would love it, Cindy! @Cinfhen (edited) 1w
BarbaraTheBibliophage I loved Water Dancer. So glad Coates stretched into the world of fiction without losing his social justice focus. 1w
Reviewsbylola Oh really?! I didn‘t even consider reading the Coates because paranormal. 😛 How is Ohio? 1w

My #weeklyforecast is pretty simple this week-
I'm about halfway through the tagged book and would love to finish by next Sunday. In the meantime, hoping to get started on Ohio for #booked2019 #bookaboutaddiction 🙃

Cinfhen Very doable!!! I own Ohio, so curious to hear your thoughts!! 3w
ljuliel Dear Cinfhen , If you own Ohio , we have a pothole on our street that needs attention and our neighbor‘s tree roots are blocking the rainwater when we get hard rains. Is there any way you can look into this for us ? I know we are a small town, but we pay taxes too. Thank you. 😁 3w
BarbaraBB Beautiful picture! I have a copy of The Door too, so am looking forward to your thoughts! 3w

BarbaraBB @ljuliel 😂😂 @Cinfhen as the owner of Ohio 🤪 3w
Cinfhen Hahahahaha!!!! Hilarious @ljuliel I‘ll send a crew out your way but only as a Litsy friend & family courtesy 2w
Cinfhen Thanks for the tag @BarbaraBB xx 2w
ljuliel One of the times I read the comments before looking at the photo. I sorta figured you didn‘t own our state or I probably would have heard about it before this. 😊. Just joking. I WOULD appreciate someone repairing the above items. We‘ve asked the city workers and it hasn‘t been done yet so I thought I‘d go over their heads to the owner of the state. 😁. @Cinfhen 2w
Reviewsbylola I still need to read Ohio too! 2w
Mdargusch I really disliked The Door. I believe it caused me to drink @BarbaraBB 🥃 it‘s dark. 2w
Mdargusch 🤣🤣🤣 @ljuliel 2w
BarbaraBB @Mdargusch Oh really? I had such high hopes! 2w
Mdargusch It‘s just me @BarbaraBB I think if you are a fan of NYRB books then you will be a fan of this one. 2w

A heartbreaking look at what addiction does not only to the addict but to their family as well. A tough but important read. #booked2019 #bookaboutaddiction

CaseyLea I loved this one too, even though it was an emotional read - beautifully written, I thought 3w
Cinfhen I‘ve seen so many glowing reviews for this memoir! Have u seen the film??? 3w
OriginalCyn620 @Cinfhen I have not seen the movie and now I don‘t know if I can. The book was rough enough! 3w

IvoryLunatic @OriginalCyn620 I agree. I don‘t think I could watch that movie. 3w
katlyn447 I had the opportunity to hear Nic speak earlier this year about his addiction and the books it inspired. Definitely a tough story to hear, but it's inspiring to see how this family has coped and come out the other side. 2w
OriginalCyn620 @katlyn447 That‘s amazing! I bet he‘s a wonderful speaker. 2w

This was a really interesting book about addiction. It was both funny and sad/ scary and I really felt like it was raw and honest at the same time. I really think the author took the time to show the despair and difficulties of living a life with addiction. The writing was great and quick to get through even though the subject matter was tough. #booked2019

Cinfhen I find these type of memoirs really powerful. 3w
BarbaraTheBibliophage It takes a lot of courage for an author to put themselves out there to the world. Interesting pick! 3w

An absolutely remarkable mix of memoir and dissertation on substance abuse and creativity. Jamison also expounds on the socioeconomic forces that influence our country‘s approach to addiction and who we tend to see as victims vs. who we see as criminals. It is a VAST undertaking that I spent about a month with but it will stick with me far longer. 5⭐️ 👇🏼

Christine Ugh, this one was so good! ❤️ 1mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage Sounds like I must add to my TBR. 1mo

I listened to this on audio and it encouraged me to de clutter and pitch stuff, so that‘s a win. 😆 The lesson that resonated with me the most was to buy things you need, and not for the person you want to be. I find myself buying things to fit a persona that I want to emulate, so that has been in the back of my mind. Since the author deals with addiction to alcohol and shopping, I‘m counting this for #booked2019 #bookaboutaddiction

vkois88 I want to read this but I feel like I need to buy it... which means breaking the main rule ??? That's what kills me about these types of NF "self-help" books. Otherwise, I'd definitely be interested. 1mo
Reviewsbylola 😆😆 I borrowed it through my library so I didn‘t have any guilt. But the author did denounce book buying and that I could never do. 😱😱 @vkois88 1mo
Cinfhen Interesting / how true about our need to “Dress to Impress” ~ as I get older, im getting better about falling into that designer addiction/ I care much less 1mo

vkois88 Lol I'll have to see if my library system has it!!! 1mo
charl08 Well I was tempted until I read about the book buying... 1mo
Mdargusch Very interesting. Too bad amazon is just so easy. 1mo
Zelma I really liked this book. Less as a decluttering book and more about a memoir on grief and addiction. It totally worked for me and I wish it had been marketed as such. 1mo

This book is exciting and trashy and all kinds of depressing, and I might have really loved it. The ending made me SO depressed and there was some hard to swallow language and fat shaming in it that I can‘t bring myself to give it 5 stars on Goodreads JUST YET. #Booked2019 #bookaboutaddiction #spoileralert #its💊💊

mcipher It‘s so of its time - you gotta let some of the blatantly awful go and remember that things were different then. It‘s so trashy and good!!! 1mo
Cinfhen Good choice 🙌🏻 1mo

Raw and compelling view on addiction. Made me start an open dialogue with my kids. Worth the read for every parent!

CaseyLea I loved this book too! I‘m reading another very thought provoking read about addiction atm - Lit by Mary Karr. I recommend it 😊 1mo
Jovy @CaseyLea Oh good to know! Will check it out thanks 😀 1mo

Honestly, I‘m not sure comics and graphic novels are really my thing. My typical reaction after finishing one is usually “Mmkay... Well, I read it...” 🤷🏽‍♀️ even when they‘re supposedly amazing. It wasn‘t much different with this, but my reaction was a little more positive, so I‘m counting that as a win. 😅 I really do think it was worth the read even though I‘m probably not the ideal audience for it. ⬇️

shadowspeak17 I‘m using this for #booked2019 #bookaboutaddiction, so I do still need to find something for the comic/graphic novel prompt. If anyone has any suggestions, they‘d be greatly appreciated. 😬

4thhouseontheleft I would suggest the March trilogy. 2mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage This sounds good, in a sad way. The March trilogy is great. I also suggest 2mo
