Pickpick

This book is a low pick for me. It's a somewhat random collection of thoughts on silence, some insightful and others that were less interesting. Either way, it has definitely made me appreciate silence more.

This might be a stretch, but I'm using this book for prompt 30, “Meowth: Treasure“ for #gottacatchemall, since the theme of the book is that silence is to be treasured, and we all know that “Silence is golden“! @PuddleJumper

Librarybelle Wow! I‘ve not seen a book crossing book in a long time! So cool it is still a program! 1w
kwmg40 @Librarybelle BookCrossing is definitely not as active as it used to be but there are still a lot of dedicated BookCrossers. I always get a thrill when I get a journal entry for a book I released many years ago. 1w

Librarybelle @kwmg40 That is really neat! I remember it being super popular 20 years ago. I had an account, and though I never released a book, I enjoyed reading the alerts of a book being released in my area. 1w
kwmg40 @Librarybelle I mostly do “controlled releases“ these days, with a group of BookCrossers around the world who send books to one another, but occasionally, I'll leave one “in the wild“. 😄 1w

This is a biography of model and artist Kiki Man Ray, who was married to artist Man Ray for a time. While Kiki's life story was interesting, I enjoyed even more learning about the development of art in Montparnasse during the 1920's.

kwmg40 @BarbaraBB OMG! I chose a cover image from the Internet and didn‘t look at it carefully. 😂 I actually received an English copy from a #BookCrossing friend but sent it to another reader before remembering to take a photo! 2mo
BarbaraBB I was so surprised! I thought how could I have missed that all these years 😂 2mo
kwmg40 @BarbaraBB 😅 I‘ll be sure not to make that mistake again! 2mo

Oooh! Nice! I just won this book from the #LittleFreeLibrary website and from the publisher, Simon & Schuster. I plan to read this book, register it on #BookCrossing and then share it with others. It‘s a light, enjoyable read so far.

I just started this book which I received from a fellow BookCrosser. This book had me in tears by the second chapter so that means it‘s a keeper (except that I‘ll release it through #BookCrossing when it‘s completed).

TEArificbooks Have you read A Man Called Ove ? It is my favorite of his so far. 11mo
SqueakyChu @TEArificbooks I have read A Man Called Ove. I liked it very much. 11mo
TEArificbooks Have you seen the new American version movie with Tom Hanks? It is on Netflix now. Oh, it made me cry. @SqueakyChu 11mo

rwmg If you really want to open the floodgates, I recommend the tagged book by the same author. 11mo
SqueakyChu @rwmg Thanks for the recommendation. 11mo
SqueakyChu I actually ended up bailing on this book on page 100 because I did not like the way it was written like a fairy tale. 10mo

Anxious People: A Novel | Fredrik Backman

I didn't love this one the way I did Beartown, the only other Backman I've read. However, I really liked how the characters' lives were all intertwined and the idea that one person's actions can have such a great effect on others.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! This one is on my summer reading list!! 11mo
kwmg40 @Andrew65 Thanks for stopping by! 11mo
kwmg40 @TheAromaofBooks I hope you enjoy it! It's a good choice for summer reading -- humorous and a quick read, but not lightweight as it deals with some serious themes. 11mo

I loved this story about two estranged Korean American sisters trying to reconcile while grappling with their own individual challenges. It's funny, moving and heartwarming, and I also love this cover design.

A compact, sad and beautiful story, set at the end of WWI, about a family's struggles with poverty and the severe disfigurement of the returning father and husband.

The North Water | Ian McGuire

Pickpick

A tense and fast-paced historical thriller set on a 19th century whaling ship in the Arctic waters. I really liked this novel but also found some parts quite disturbing, so I'm not sure if I'm up to watching the miniseries based on the book.

Librarybelle I don‘t know much about this novel, but I would imagine, just judging by the subject matter, that parts of this would be disturbing 13mo
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 13mo
kwmg40 @Librarybelle This book supposedly belongs in the category of “realist literature“ and the author doesn't shy away from showing the grittiness and violence of that time and place. 13mo
kwmg40 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks for the encouragement! 13mo

Migrations: A Novel | Charlotte McConaghy

I loved this book about a restless woman with a mysterious past, on a journey to follow the migration of one of the last birds remaining in a dying world. The story is sad and gripping, and offers a warning about our fragile environment.

This was sent to me by a #BookCrossing friend. I'd not been familiar with the Moomin stories before, and I found these two stories charming and the illustrations delightful!
