I was googling #ObnoxiousCharacter and found a website that suggested “any character by Henry Miller”😂 I‘ve only read the autobiographical Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn, and to be fair, Miller himself came across as a bit obnoxious.

I enjoyed the first few books in this series and most of the author‘s standalone work. Then I read this installment after a several year break and found Becky to be an #ObnoxiousCharacter

I‘m still going to finish the series some day! #AuldLangReads

I think there are two camps when it comes to Catcher; those who love it, and those who think Holden is an irredeemably #obnoxiouscharacter

I'm firmly in camp two. Where do you sit?

#AuldLangReads @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

MissAimz_55 Camp two. Fiancé is in camp one 3h
AmyG Two. I didn‘t like or “get” this book at all. 2h
sprainedbrain Camp 1. Holden was my first book boyfriend, and I have been making poor choices in men ever since. 😂 2h

Reagan 2 Holden is insufferable and I didn‘t even finish the book. 2h
MicrobeMom I haven‘t read since I was 16. At 16 I was definitely Camp 1. Though, now that I am adult and way beyond 16, I imagine I would be in Camp2. 2h
zezeki Camp 2. I really really didn't like him. 2h
OriginalCyn620 I need to reread this...I read it in high school but don‘t remember it much! 2h
TheKidUpstairs @MicrobeMom I think you're right, that the age at which you first read Catcher has a big effect on which camp you are in! 2h
TheKidUpstairs @MissAimz_55 @AmyG @sprainedbrain @Reagan @zezeki testing a theory; how old were you when you first read Catcher? 2h
sprainedbrain I was 17 the first time. 2h
Reagan @sprainedbrain probably early 20s. I don‘t recall trying as a teenager although I might have. I haven‘t tried since either, I‘ve considered it but I think he would irritate me even more now close to 40! 2h
vivastory I reread Catcher a couple of years ago at 39 & loved it more than when I first read it at 18. I felt a new appreciation for Holden's youthful idealism. 1h
xicanti Camp One. Holden‘s insufferability is largely fuelled by loneliness and grief. He‘s fascinating even when he isn‘t admirable. 1h
vivastory @xicanti I agree. Plus, I have yet to meet an adolescent who isn't insufferable to some degree. I know I was. 😂 1h
Scochrane26 Camp 2. I read this as a adult, but I think I wouldn‘t have liked it even as a teen. 1h

One of the most obnoxious characters is Draco Malloy! “Harry has never believed he would meet a boy he hated more than Dudley but that was before he met Draco Malloy” #auldlangreads #obnoxiouscharacter #potteraday

#AuldLangReads Day 18: Not sure about the left one but tagged book is definitely #BasedOnATrueStory - more like a memoir, really from the author of Reading Lolita in Tehran. Excited to read both books, bought recently from Half Price Books.

rachaich Absolutely adored Grandmother book. Really brilliant 😊😊 6h

Hated the MC, Molly. Yet because of her character I liked the book.

This book has not just one #obnoxiouscharacter but two. Lydia Bennet and Mr. Collins are insufferable!

ElizaMarie The cover of that book is simply beautiful! 7h
veritysalter You should read ‘Death Comes to Pemberley‘ by P.D. James for Lydia and Mr Wickham to get their comeuppance. 5h
OriginalCyn620 Really @veritysalter?! That‘d be reason enough to read it! 2h

Betrayal by her fiancé Chip is devastating for Maggie. He puts her in danger, then while she is recovering in hospital, can only wallow in his selfishness. He abandons her long before her rehabilitation is complete. Chip is the epitome of an #obnoxiouscharacter

Pickpick

A quietly heartbreaking study of grief, family obligation and small town stagnation. Not my favourite Anne Tyler but definitely worth reading.

Also, entirely fortuitously, features an #ObnoxiousCharacter (Ansel) #AuldLangReads

Cathythoughts Sounds good. I havnt read an Ann Tyler sinse I joined Litsy .... I did enjoy the ones I read 👍🏻❤️ 14h
