Took my time finishing this one as I wasn‘t really ready for my time with the Thursday Murder Club to be over (for now). I have found myself enjoying these books far more for the friendships and relationships and the author‘s observations of aging than the mystery itself (although those are fun too!) This book actually made me tear up, which is a rarity for me. A series I will revisit for sure.

3.5 Stars • "The Last Devil to Die" is the fourth in Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club series. It involves the club solving a murder linked to drug smuggling, set in their retirement village. It explores aging and dementia, with the usual mix of humor, warmth, and mystery.
What a lovely gift, thank you 😊.
We had a belated gift opening yesterday afternoon as we were travelling on Christmas Day, we waited until we were all together.
There may have also been some yummy fudge 😋

Absolutely loved this series so far and this installment did not disappoint. There is more backstory for more of the lead characters and the cast is more cognizant that they are truly a found family. I will say this one had a fair bit of more serious beats to it but still some levity to balance it out.
I had to take a break in the middle of this novel because I knew what was coming and I wasn‘t emotionally ready. I‘m glad I waited and I‘m glad I finished it. I have loved this series and this felt like an ending. I‘m sure I‘ll continue to wonder how all of the Thursday Murder Club is faring. Maybe we‘ll hear from them again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finally got it from the library, it has been in high demand :) really enjoying reading about the gang again.
I don't know if this was legitimately better than the last one or if I was simply glad to be back at Coopers Chase. This one did feel especially poignant though and I'm realizing I need to reread them all.
This was fantastic - made laugh, made me cry and kept me guessing... I think this series are my favourite books of 2024 ✨❣️
Loved the fourth installment in this series. A friend of the club is murdered. With many suspects and a rising body count, the four Thursday Murder club members each play an important part as they work to solve this dangerous series of crimes. A heartbreaking loss reminds each one that life and love is precious. Great character development and a mystery that kept me guessing merits 4•/5 ⭐️.
It was lovely to spend time with the club again. Gentle crime. I believe the author is having a break from this series and publishing something different.
This is maybe the best yet and I can only hope there is more! Great scenes and new characters and some old threads all driving this plot forward for pure entertainment.
This series gets better with each installment! I was so happy to be back with the Thursday Murder gang, even knowing that with life comes loss. The characters' journeys were the main focus this time, but still with an interesting mystery to solve. I loved Joyce's development best. She really stepped up when needed ❤️

I 💜 the Thursday Murder Club! The gang is back in action here, with a new murder to solve. The mystery was nicely woven together, though I figured out more than I‘d have liked, earlier than I‘d have liked! The strength of this installment was in the personal lives of our quartet—it was far more emotional than I‘d anticipated. I love the friendships among all of the gang—from the Cooper‘s Chase crowd, to the broader community they‘ve grown ⤵️
6-13-24: My 17th finished book of 2024! Book 4 in the Thursday Murder Club series. Another fun read with the octogenarian murder club. Joyce, Elizabeth, Ron and Ibrahim are at it again but this time it‘s a friend who is murdered that starts them on a new chase for a killer. And there‘s heroin. And antiques. And forgery. And a new cop on the beat even though our regular Chris and Donna are here to help. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣1️⃣7️⃣
Love this series…I hope to be part of a crew like this in my later years. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love. Love Love this series! Witty, clever, brilliantly written and well paced, Osman is just fantastic. Can't wait for the next one!
This was so great! It gutted me though. I can't even imagine how hard this will be (when my husband and I are at that age).

Well, Mr. Osman, you managed to make me laugh out loud multiple times with this one. What I didn‘t expect is that you‘d make me cry multiple times too! I‘m blown away by your tender care and obvious reverence for those who suffer from dementia (and those who care for them). Oh, and the murder mystery was spot on as usual ♥️😊 (side note - am seriously tempted to write Osman a letter, it touched me that much)

Another great read! Love this series!
The Thursday Murder Club books are much more wholesome than my taste normally abides and yet, I really do love them. This fourth instalment is perhaps not the strongest in terms of its central case (its number 3 for me). However the layers added to the characterisation in this novel are pitch perfect, nuanced, and written sensitively and yet with piercing insight. To balance humour with this more moving content is a skill. Loved it.
Osman really knocked this one out of the park! This is the 4th in the Thursday Murder Club series, and it's hands-down the best one. After reading reviews saying it made them cry, I suspected what was going to happen, but Osman wrote about it so beautifully, I still cried. I am sorry to read he's taking a break from the series. I will miss Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, Ron, and the rest of the crew. This was my March #Doublespin @TheAromaofBooks
Everyone was right: it was amazing, and I did cry.
A staggering achievement in managing a murder mystery, the same dry humour, the introduction of a new character (three cheers for Computer Bob!) all bookending an incredibly powerful and sensitive treatment of dementia and assisted dying. The moments of grief shared by multiple characters that gave new insights into their own back stories. Just, so well done. 1/2
Sweet Ibrahim.
Never too old to have new role models. ☺️♻️💚
Pull the other one, darling.
Oof. Everyone says this is the entry in the series that will make me cry, but I didn't expect it to come out swinging on the first page.
A dangerous package, missing.
A drug deal gone wrong.
A friend, murdered.
A dear friend, departed.
The fearless quartet are back with a bang & this time they are pitted against a group of more menacing & ruthless villains. The story is gripping, comical, exciting and sentimental-nudging us to confront our perceptions of aging & mortality, evoking a stirring cascade of emotions. It is a profound introspection into the essence of love & existence❤️❤️
Another great book in the series. An old friend of the residents at Coopers Chase has been killed and the package he was caring for has gone missing. Join the Thursday Murder Club as they work to solve the murder. This time dealing with drug kingpins, art forgeries, online fraudsters and heartache from loved ones.
I was hooked from page one and feel as though the residents are friends. Hilarious dialogue and true friendship on display - 5 ⭐️
Absolutely loved every minute of it. I adore these characters so very much. This one was a real tear jerker. I won‘t go into details why because I think it spoils it a little bit, but the love and grief in this one had me sobbing. Excellent murder mystery as usual. I guessed one part but the rest left me guess right to the end. The author also allows you to see the humanity in the bad characters as well, which makes this series kinda special. 5⭐️
I like this series very much and it is an autobuy for me. The fourth book in the series, this advances the stories of Elizabeth and Stephen, and of Ibrahim. I really like these characters and the fact that they are all elderly and still having adventures. It gives me something to aspire to.
January was a solid if not spectacular reading month. I had 5 books I rated 5⭐️‘s but tagged has my heart.

Picked this up from the library today 📚
Starting tonight. I‘ve enjoyed all 3 in the series so far, let‘s hope this was one doesn‘t disappoint!
The best of the series! I don‘t want to spoil anything but this was so good, though genuinely heartbreaking. I hope the series will eventually continue! 5⭐️
4.5 ⭐
This one brought the feels 😢. As the collection of characters builds tho, I started to have trouble remembering who was who.
#4 or 5 in the A Thursday Murder Club Mystery series.

I wasn't in a rush to read this because I thought the third book was weak and maybe the series ought to come to an end before it becomes actually bad, you know? Very happy to find that not only is book 4 much better, it might actually be the best one yet. Looking forward to further murders now.
It‘s continues to be a pleasure to return to Cooper‘s Chase and my favorite gang of retirees. The fourth book (they should be read in order) in the series is full of the humor and charm we expect, but also has heart-wrenching moments that had me sobbing. I love the main and recurring characters in this series, but I‘m also sort of amazed by how charming some of the criminals are, lol. #SeriesLove2024
Donna: Joyce, has anyone ever called you a pervert?
Joyce: Don‘t be such a prude.
😂

Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim are back, with the addition of a few new friends, to solve some mysteries and a murder.
