NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY CHICAGO TRIBUNE A thrilling adventure ofdangeranddeep-sea diving, historic mystery and suspense, by the author of Shadow Divers Finding and identifying a pirate ship is the hardest thing to do under the sea. But two menJohn Chatterton and John Matteraare willing to risk everything to find the Golden Fleece, the ship of the infamous pirate Joseph Bannister. At large during the Golden Age of Piracy in the seventeenth century, Bannister should have been immortalized in the lore of the seahis exploits more notorious than Blackbeards, more daring than Kidds. But his story, and his ship, have been lost to time.If Chatterton and Mattera succeed, they will make historyit will be just the second time ever that a pirate ship has been discovered and positively identified. Soon, however, they realize that cutting-edge technology and a willingness to lose everything arent enough to track down Bannisters ship. They must travel the globe in search of historic documents and accounts of the great pirates exploits, face down dangerous rivals, battle the tides of nations and governments and experts. But its only when they learn to think and act like pirateslike Bannisterthat they become able to go where no pirate hunters have gone before. I loved doing the reading bracket last year and I‘m certain it was 100% accurate in reaching my favorite book of the year. So I‘m game again for the #2023readingbracket and the tagged book takes the win for January just barely in front of the second pirate book I read this month, Born to be Hanged.

Sargar114 Is this template free to use? 1y
Texreader @Sargar114 I snagged it from another Litten and posted my book on top of hers. So sure!! Go for it! 1y
CBee @Sargar114 the bracket is thanks to @chasjjlee 😊😊 1y

DivineDiana I love this bracket idea! I‘ve saved the bracket, but I can‘t figure out how to put my book image on it!?! Is there an app that you use? 1y
Texreader @DivineDiana I used PicsArt app, the free version 1y
CBee @DivineDiana I use Pic Collage! 1y

Only one confirmed pirate ship had been found when two galleon hunters were lured away from certain treasure from a sunken Spanish ship to look for a pirate ship off an island in the #DominicanRepublic. Based on certain sources they were supposed to find it in a specific location and yet it wasn‘t there. Years of research, tenacity, & ingenuity landed them the big prize. This an excellent book, well written and researched. Highly recommended. ⬇️

Catsandbooks Awesome! 🇩🇴 1y

One of the two men this book is about grew up in gangster land amidst fierce fighting of the Gambino family but escaped and went on to be a bodyguard to celebrities. But I love this…he loved books and history more. He was just 14 when he snuck in to do a scary scuba dive in an 1886 sunken luxury liner. I love real-life stories like this!! #DominicanRepublic #readingtheAmericas

I can hardly contain my excitement so I‘m jumping into this book that I‘ve been anticipating ever since I learned about it. I‘ll post some more pics of the book so you can join in my excitement.

It‘s a bit early for #foodandlit since the #DominicanRepublic is for February but it‘s not too early for #readingtheAmericas! @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB @Catsandbooks

Catsandbooks I feel like this one could be a wild and exciting ride! Enjoy! 1y

Finished this pirate book pool side. I would not have read this if it weren't for my book club. The cover is horrible, and I'm judging, LOL. However, I'm glad I read it as it was a short, informative nonfiction about an era of history I knew nothing about.

#thoughtfulThursday on a Friday

Don‘t usually read non fiction, but the tagged book read like fiction.

🛡 👸🏼 ⚔️ 🏴‍☠️ 🏝

Historical romance is my favorite, because it seems more grand, dramatic, and daring. People doing extraordinary things in pursuit of love.

Definitely cover art.

Thanks for the tag @jenniferw88 !

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I was really wanting history but was overdosed by testosterone. I also had a problem with the justification of terror in the name of democracy. The pictures and maps were really interesting, though. #NonfictionChallenge2017

Treasure shows who you really are. It strips away every façade you‘ve constructed, every story you believe about yourself, and reveals the real you. If you are a miserable, lying, greedy, worthless fuck, treasure will tell you that. If you are a good and decent person, treasure will tell you that, too. And you needn‘t find a single coin to know. It‘s enough to get close to treasure, to believe it within reach, and you‘ll have your answer...
