L.A. is parched, dry as a bone, and all Oscar, the weather-obsessed patriarch of the Alvarado family, desperately wants is a little rain. Hes harboring a costly secret that distracts him from everything else. His wife, Keila, desperate for a life with a little more intimacy and a little less Weather Channel, feels she has no choice but to end their marriage. Their three daughtersClaudia, a television chef with a hard-hearted attitude; Olivia, a successful architect who suffers from gentrification guilt; and Patricia, a social media wizard who has an uncanny knack for connecting with audiences but not with her loversare blindsided and left questioning everything they know. Each will have to take a critical look at her own relationships and make some tough decisions along the way. So much going on with this family of 3 grown daughters & their parents! It‘s 2016: a drama-filled year when each of family member goes through a life changing event. Fiction often boarders on unbelievable for me, but this one was just outrageous in the number of situations the family goes through in a year. I did think it was interesting how each day of the year is a chapter. Too much happens to touch on content, but I can see this being a movie.

Breanne1 That breakfast looks divine!!! 4w
Cinfhen I‘m intrigued to give it a go - I can borrow it through scribd….I‘ll just keep my expectations on the lower end 🧡and agreed @Breanne1 that avo toast looks YUM!!! 4w
Librariana It's on my TBR and I was curious about purchasing it given the blurbs/synopses I had read about it, but I think your review is far more helpful. 4w
Chelsea.Poole @Breanne1 @Cinfhen 🥑 toast is a favorite 😻 4w
Chelsea.Poole @Librariana @Cinfhen I think this is worth the read, but more of a borrow not buy type if that‘s an option 😊 4w

Picked this up b/c it‘s a Reese‘s Book Club pick & im trying to read books by more people of color. I will say that it was difficult getting through the first 100 pages. After that the pace started to pick up & it the characters were developed more. Each character had so much drama going on with them. Bit of a crazy read but one I overall enjoyed.

I was really looking forward to this book and, unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. Although this had a promising start, I found all of the characters to be unlikeable and was put off by just how many tragedies this family went through. It felt like the author had a list of topics she wanted to touch on and incorporated them all, even if the fit was clunky. I found myself bored halfway through and completely uninvested in the characters.

ICantImReading I agree, this didn‘t work for me either! 😕 2mo

This book is the hopeful story of a year in the life of a family. They experience a lot of ups and downs during the course of the year, but they end up learning what‘s truly important by the end. #Libby #ebook #Kindle

I was excited about this audio but it ended up not being for me. There were way too many life-altering events happening to this one family. I didn‘t feel I connected with any of the characters.

Hooked_on_books It really didn‘t work for me, either. I was so disappointed! 4mo

I was going to pass on reading this, but I am so glad I did not. This was a wonderful rich complicated family story. There were a few elements that had me shaking my head but overall, this was a completely enjoyable reading experience for me.

Eh. This was a bit unbelievable. Trying to fit all the upheaval these characters went through - divorces, brain tumors, pregnancy, coming out, etc. - into a calendar year felt really forced and ruined things for me. The characters were fine, but with all the plot developments, I had trouble getting very invested in them. A true so-so. #audiobook

Cinfhen Good to know/ I won‘t rush to read this!! 4mo
Cinfhen How‘s Miss Molly?? 4mo
Megabooks @Cinfhen she‘s improving. Last night was rough. She was uncomfortable and up frequently, so I didn‘t get much sleep. Now she‘s resting, but I‘m wide awake! 😂 I can tell she hurts, but it‘s getting better by the hour. She‘s such a good girl. 💜 I‘m going ahead and starting our buddy read. It‘s a few hours early, but I‘m at a good break between books. How‘s your weekend? Is Z still home? 4mo

Cinfhen Oh, maybe I‘ll listen a little bit tonight too. I was out ALL DAY and just got home about an hour ago. Z leaves tomorrow morning but he thinks he‘ll be back on Friday 🙏🏻 I‘m glad to hear Molly is a trooper and recovering nicely 💜 4mo
Megabooks @Cinfhen I hope he‘s able to come back Friday. 🙏🏻 I know I owe you and @BarbaraBB an email. I finally got a good night‘s sleep last night. The 48 hours from Thursday at dinner to Saturday afternoon were a NIGHTMARE! I‘ll fill you in soon. 💜💜 4mo
BarbaraBB I am glad to hear Molly did okay and is improving! She‘s an amazing little pup! 4mo
Megabooks @BarbaraBB she is! I‘m a lucky Mama. Dad‘s holding her now while he reads the paper. Yes, we still get a physical local paper! 4mo

⭐️⭐️💫

The beginning of this book really drew me in, but my interest soon fizzled out. It felt a bit melodramatic and overloaded with issues. I did enjoy the setting and the Mexican-American representation. 🎧 #reesesbookclub

A horrible accident sets off the events of LA Weather, as a wealthy couple and their three adult daughters navigate their relationships. I was so drawn to this book but just never connected to it. I thought the fate of one of the relationships didn‘t ring true at all and was only there to reflect the others. By the end I just didn‘t care anymore.

ICantImReading I just finished this and I completely agree! 😕 4mo

I love when the location is a character. A 60ish Mexican American couple with their three grown, successful daughters move through a lot in 2016 L.A. Typically, I‘m not a fan of books that throw in a kitchen sink overflowing with social issues into a single story, but it worked for me here. It might be because I read this as an outline for a series ripe (pun kind of intended) for Reese to develop to screen.

This is so freaking good. It tells the story of a family over 1 year. It starts with a horrible accident, a drowning. It's not quite as ridiculous as a telenovela, but it is very dramatic. And the weather is almost an extra character. I was really impressed with this. I will definitely read more by this author.
