I didn't love this. There are too many names / characters and the plot is overly complicated for something that's actually trying to be a fairly basic detective novel. Because this is supposed to be the first in a series. And a series should be entertaining so you feel compelled to read the next.

TheAromaofBooks Sometimes it feels like authors spend way too much time setting up the series and not enough time actually telling THIS story. 2y

So the thing that I love about this author is that she basically makes everything up herself instead of borrowing from older stories. Every bit of this book is exciting. And it ends on a cliffhanger so I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

This is so freaking good. It tells the story of a family over 1 year. It starts with a horrible accident, a drowning. It's not quite as ridiculous as a telenovela, but it is very dramatic. And the weather is almost an extra character. I was really impressed with this. I will definitely read more by this author.

There is so much to say about this Greek myth. Ariadne helps Theseus to defeat the Minotaur (her brother) and then the jerk abandons her on an island. This novel is told from her perspective and that is just the beginning and most basic part of her story. I thought this was really good and it's a debut so hopefully the author will continue to grow.

This book is great. I definitely recommend it.

It's the story of loss. A woman loses 3 of her children in a freak accident. People from the circus and the local home for pregnant girls join the search. The story is about the family but also about the girls and the nuns and the members of the circus. The setting is Germany in the mid-1800s.

I received an #ARC from #Flatiron via #Netgalley
Pub date is August 18th.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: this was a super slow burn of a novel. A brilliant writer whose life is "ruined" by a pregnancy. She finally finds herself and claims her life back, or does she? This novel is long-- maybe too long, and filled with stories from Joan Ashly-- cool and maybe a bit too much? #Debut #OutAug29 #Flatiron #ARCLife

So many reasons for reading this debut, including the fact that it's a #Flatiron book (aka Amy Einhorn). Friendship, coming of age, four girls dreaming of escaping their fate.
