The New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners returns with a witty and effervescent novel about what happens when two people with everything on the line are thrown together by scienceor is it fate? Perfect for fans of The Rosie Project and One Plus One. Single mom Jess Davis is a data and statistics wizard, but no amount of number crunching can convince her to step back into the dating world. Raised by her grandparentswho now help raise her seven-year-old daughter, JunoJess has been left behind too often to feel comfortable letting anyone in. After all, her fathers never been around, her hard-partying mother disappeared when she was six, and her ex decided he wasnt father material before Juno was even born. Jess holds her loved ones close, but working constantly to stay afloat is hard...and lonely. But then Jess hears about GeneticAlly, a buzzy new DNA-based matchmaking company thats predicted to change dating forever. Finding a soulmate through DNA? The reliability of numbers: This Jess understands. At least she thought she did, until her test shows an unheard-of 98% compatibility with another subject in the database: GeneticAllys founder, Dr. River Pena. This is one number she cant wrap her head around, because she already knows Dr. Pena. The stuck-up, stubborn man is without a doubt not her soulmate. But GeneticAlly has a proposition: Get to know him and well pay you. Jesswho is barely making ends meetis in no position to turn it down, despite her skepticism about the project and her dislike for River. As the pair are dragged from one event to the next as the Diamond pairing that could make GeneticAlly a mint in stock prices, Jess begins to realize that there might be more to the scientistand the science behind a soulmatethan she thought. Funny, warm, and full of heart, The Soulmate Equation proves that the delicate balance between fate and choice can never be calculated.

⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was another feel good romcom from Lauren. The characters are likeable, and the storytelling is good. The DNA match premise is maybe a tad much, and the romance follows the usual formula (which led cynical old me to a few eye rolls), but I was mostly able to push my cynicism aside and enjoyit for what it is. ❤

4.6⭐️ this was such a cute and fun and easy read. It was exactly what I needed to help me get out of my reading slump. I love the chemistry between all the characters, the character development and the sweet comedy that made me giggle all the way through. It was also very interesting take on dating sites. Definitely recommend.

So I haven‘t posted in a while, not because I wasn‘t reading, just not feeling too social 😁. But I am working my way back and thought this was a good way to start.

Christina Lauren books such comfort reads - like a Hallmark Christmas movie. You know there will be a meet-cute and all will go well, there will be some mix-up that will cause the couple some strife, but it all works out and they live happily ever after. Gotta love that ❤️

Last year I rekindled my passion for reading around May and set a goal of finishing 12 books. I realize that‘s nothing, especially for my fellow Littens, but I had gone from reading a book or two a year to really dedicating time for myself to read. I ended up reading 25 books in 2021 but stopped reading around mid-October. This year I set my goal at 30 books and am hopeful I‘ll exceed that. I‘m excited to set more time aside soon ❤️📚

Ahw06 @SRWCF yes! I used to read constantly as a kid and I just kind of stopped. 2022 will be our reading year! 📚 3w
SRWCF @Ahw06 sing it, sister! When I was a teenager, I dove head first into all the classics and devoured them with gusto! Since then, over the years, my reading has been pretty hit and miss. I guess I just adult too much and don't take a lot of time for self-care (i.e. reading). I'm starting off this year with some short, easy books to get me back into the reading habit. 📚 🥰👊 2w

This book was like a warm hug for me💛 I absolutely loved these characters- sort of brooding male lead with a single mom not really looking for love and who is most comfortable in the small bubble she has created for herself. The chemistry is spot on!

I always appreciate the way this duo writes creative concepts and lovable characters with great chemistry. The way the conflict at the end was handled didn‘t fully work for me, but I would still recommend it as a cute, feel-good read! 🎧

A sweet romance novel. A single mom signs up for a dating website that matches people based on their DNA, and find she has matched with one of the founders. But she already knows him and doesn‘t care for him, so she doesn‘t trust the results.

Loved their story, kind of wish there was more tension/buildup to the start of them actually liking each other, but otherwise loved it!

I like CLo and this one was good. What happens when the guy who created love matches based on DNA finds his perfect match with a skeptic? It was fun and though there is a kid (which normally I don‘t love, bc they are usually unrealistic) but she wasn‘t too bad. A good read #bookspinbingo

Such a quick and refreshing read. I loved every bit of this romance novel. It was nerdy and cute in all good ways. I genuinely felt the connection between River and Jess. I loved the addition of Juno. It really felt wholesome to read.

The idea of a dating service that finds matches for you based on genetic compatibility, is definitely a plot I haven‘t seen before. But I liked the couple, and their banter style definitely made me crack a few grins in public. A book so sweet, it‘ll give you a toothache, in a good way.

I always anticipate the new publication of a Christina Lauren book, and had to wait a while for this one. Some lackluster reviews lowered my expectations but that was a good thing because with diminished expectations I didn‘t compare this to the previous and enjoyed it. I couldn‘t help but wonder about all my sibling DNA up there on Ancestory and wonder what it could paint about our ability to get along.

Mixed feelings on this one, so a soft pick. Overall not a bad story, but I felt like the characters of the two MCs weren't super consistent, and the way their relationship progressed didn't seem completely natural to me. Not a bad way to while away the afternoon, but also not my favorite book by this duo. ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) I am a little confused by reviews I see accusing this book of supporting eugenics?? Eugenics is the process of purposefully eliminating certain characteristics from a genepool with the idea that said characteristics are “inferior“; or, conversely, purposefully breeding certain characteristics together. In application to humans, this would mean not allowing some people to reproduce while forcing others to do so & literally nothing about ⬇ 7mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) the genetic match-up program does that?? I was more concerned that they only seemed concerned about genes that match, because it seems to me that successful relationships have balance, which seems like it would mean that you would need certain sets of genes to NOT match in order to achieve true relationship perfection?? There were a lot of complicated moral, ethical, & emotional issues about the entire program that were definitely ⬇ 7mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) skirted and like, I get it, it's chick lit so we aren't really here to delve super deeply into the science of genetic pairing but... like... you brought it up??

Anyway, I didn't feel like there was anything malicious in the way the program worked, but I do agree that there were plenty of complications that were left unexplored.

This was cute and sweet and, occasionally, funny. A DNA test can match you with your soulmate (this is NOTHING like John Marrs' The One 😉) but Jess and River didn't like each other before their (off the charts) test results so coming to terms with being MFEO* takes some time. The supporting cast are all wonderful but I have to make a special note of Fizzy who totally needs her own book! (*made for each other, a la Sleepless in Seattle! ❤)

I‘ve been devouring romances lately…to the point where I read this one about a week ago & can‘t really remember any specifics to review it properly! 🙈 I know I enjoyed it while reading. And I felt like the cast of characters (best friend, grandparents, daughter) was healthy & robust.

One of the only notes I made was to gripe about the portrayal of Storytime at Public Libraries. Professional hazard. 😅

👇🏻

monalyisha 1/1: Listen, I know it sounds fun but you probably can‘t volunteer to read at Storytime (unless it‘s for a specific event structured around community helpers or something). Leading Storytime is our job & each session is crafted with knowledge & intention. C‘mon, C-Lo! I appreciate your appreciation for Librarians & educators. I really do. But do your research! 😜 (edited) 7mo
802Librarian As a Director, I hate it when people call and ask if they can volunteer 😆. Because what they think we do and what we actually do are very different. Thankfully, NH has library laws where volunteers can‘t do work we pay people to do and we‘re small, so that saves me 😀 7mo
CoffeeAndABook Just started reading this 😃 will be on the lookout for that passage! Otherwise happy to hear you enjoyed this. The first chapter is already fun ☕️📚 7mo

I liked the concept of this book but something about it fell a teensy bit flat for me (maybe it felt like they were "disinterested" a little too long before suddenly being in love?). Overall it kinda just made me wish this service were real - I would love for a science based dating app to be a thing ? 3.5⭐️

Another fabulous contemporary romance from the writing duo Christina Lauren. I thought the premise was clever and the hate to love trope worked well with the plot. My only critique is that I would have liked to see the love interests getting together for longer before the “big misunderstanding” and then again after they reunited, but I suppose that is a pretty typical weakness of most romances (at least in my opinion).

Loops I‘ve been eyeing this book for a while, now. I was wondering, what you already mentioned aside, are there other weak points? 7mo
Kimberlone @Loops honestly, nope! I really liked it and if you‘ve read any of Christina Lauren‘s other romances, it‘s among the better ones in my opinion. I think my critique applies to a lot of romances in general. 7mo

I really enjoyed reading this book.

I love how Jessica has a great support group to help with her daughter. I though it was a great representation of a single mother. I like how we got to see a beautiful family dynamic with her grandparents.
River was 😍 the perfect boyfriend/husband.
I wish we could of seen more of them dating and getting to know each other. But it was a really short book.
Thought, it still was a beautiful story.

At the beginning, I didn‘t really like Jess cause she automatically made negative assumptions about “Americano” even though she‘d never spoken to him, ever. But she really redeemed herself fairly quickly and the getting to know you was really sweet. And her family and friends, and his family, are all amazing; Juno is a adorable and precocious in just the right way!
